Chapter 285: Longing to See Him
“You’re right, I do know that. I’m not in love with her, though. If that’s what you’re worried about, then you don’t need to worry about it anymore. I won’t do anything to disturb your relationship with her, and of course, as your brother, I’m willing to do anything that I can to support you. Just let me know what you want me to do,” Leonard said calmly.
“You’re crazy...” Florian muttered as he shook his head from side to side in disbelief.
“If I wanted to make a move on her, I would have a long time ago. Unfortunately, I’ve had ample opportunities to do so. As for Regina, I’ve already told her that I only see her as a sister and a friend,” Leonard explained truthfully.
“Poor Regina. I feel so bad for her. She really shouldn’t have fallen in love with you,” Florian said with evident disappointment.
“I agree. I truly feel the same way. Her father’s also just using her and her feelings to get what he wants. Well, you’ve already mated with her so she’s yours now. Regina is from a very good bloodline, there should be a high chance that she’ll bear an Ultimate Alpha,” Leonard said like it really wasn’t his problem.
“That’s not what I’m worried about...” Florian quickly corrected.
“Have you changed your mind already? You don’t want to be king anymore? If that’s the case, before you can drop out, you need to help me convince Darius to take over as the next king first or this nation will go to ruin,” Leonard said followed by a small laugh.
“Wow! You know, sometimes I’m simply amazed at how dumb you can be when it comes to these things. Anyways, I guess it works in my favor if you have absolutely no interest in her,” Florian said as he raised his eyebrows in disbelief.
Although it was Leonard who wanted to leave the room first, he found himself staring after his younger brother as Florian quickly made his way out of the room. A slightly confused look crossed Leonard’s face before he shrugged his shoulders slightly and flexed his neck to the side in a careless stretch. It didn’t matter much to him what Florian wanted as long as his brother was following the rules of the palace. Leonard heaved a sigh when he thought that everyone is going through their own set of problems in life as he made his way to the door.
...
**A few days later**
“Isn’t it just amazing how much you’ve already picked up over these past few days?” Duchess Flavia said with a bright smile on her face.
“It’s all thanks to you. Thank you for taking your time to teach me like this,” I thanked her truthfully.
Over the past few days, all my other lessons were put on hold, and I spent most of my time in the company of the duchess in the dance studio. Since I had never taken dance lessons before and she was my first dance instructor, I didn’t have anyone to compare or benchmark her to; however, I was more than certain that she was an awesome instructor just based on the progress that I’ve made. I didn’t at all believe that I had any special kind of talent in dance, so I accounted my progress to her talent in teaching and also in dance.
“I think you’ve got most of the steps down. Now, we just have to polish your movements to make them look more graceful and pleasing to the eyes,” the duchess commented with a thoughtful look on her face as she stared at my midsection.
Her eyes shifted to my arms and then down my legs. By that time, I had gotten used to her staring at various parts of my body as she appraised me and my progress. Despite our slightly confusing first encounter where she revealed that she was indeed Prince Florian’s mother, I had unexpectedly come to like her and the lessons that we had together. For one thing, it helped to keep my mind from thinking of Prince Leonard. Since the night of the full moon, the prince had not paid me a visit.
After a few days, my body had returned to its normal state, and I no longer felt like something was wrong with me. The heat throbbing in my core had stabilized and my body no longer yearned uncontrollably for the prince. All that didn’t help keep my mind from wondering where Prince Leonard was or what he was doing or why he hadn’t paid me a visit. At first, I tried to tell myself that this was normal and that he was probably busy with work.
For the first few days, everyone around me mentioned Prince Leonard normally and some even gave me words of comfort reassuring me that the prince would visit me soon enough. My friends’ encouraging words only told me that they also thought that it was strange for the prince not to arrange for our meeting or lessons. As the days passed by and there were no signs of the prince visiting me, no one around me dared to speak of the prince in my presence. Although I knew that they were being considerate of my feelings, I started to wonder if I would ever get to see the prince again at this rate.
It was hard not to think about it and that was why I was thankful for these dance lessons that helped me to pass the time. However, during the mornings and at night, I couldn’t stop myself from replaying everything that happened the last time that I met Prince Leonard in my mind. Each time, I would wonder if I had done something wrong or something to displease him. There was nothing that I could think of that would make the prince keep his distance from me like this and for this long and so I came to the conclusion that I must have done something wrong.
“Oh, dear! If you don’t concentrate fully on this, your movements are going to look strange. You’re not moving the way that you usually do...” my instructor exclaimed as she clapped her hands together for me to stop.
