Chapter 283: The Hidden Lady
Chapter 283: The Hidden Lady
The sound of the door opening caught Leonard’s attention, but he wasn’t all that surprised to hear his elder brother’s voice because not that many people had access to the room that he was in. He turned toward the entrance as he wondered what Darius wanted.
“Why are you here? Oh, Florian is here as well...this is rare...” Leonard said dryly.
“I could ask you the same thing...” Darius replied as he walked toward where Leonard was seated.
“We’re here to find you, obviously...” Florian replied.
“Well, now that you’ve found me. What is it that you want?” Leonard asked.
“You have to stop hiding out here before it brings about more trouble,” Darius warned before his eyes glanced over to the unconscious woman laying on the hospital bed.
“What other trouble can possibly come about with her already in that state?” Leonard asked before letting out a sardonic chuckle.
“I guess you’re right about that...” Florian said while still keeping his distance from the hospital bed.
He had never been a fan of hospitals and seeing an unconscious woman in bed did not interest him and only made him uncomfortable. The three brothers looked at the patient for a while in silence before Florian was the first one to sigh and look away first.
“How long have you been here?” Darius asked as he turned his attention to Leonard again.
“Does it matter how long I’ve been here?” Leonard replied with a question of his own.
“Why didn’t you answer my calls? I’ve been trying to get in touch with you,” Darius continued on with his questions.
“Really? My phone is on silent mode. It would be bad if it rang and disturbed her,” Leonard replied before smiling a little in the direction of the bed.
“You have to stop hiding out here when I’m sure that you have better things to do. Father is demanding to see you and work is piling up...” Darius pointed out as his brows knitted into a slight frown.
“That is exactly why I like being here,” Leonard replied with a smile.
“If you’re done with your business, then it’s my turn. Leo, I need to talk to you about something,” Florian announced.
“What about? You can just tell me here...” Leonard said without any signs of interest.
As far as Leonard was concerned, his brothers were just imposing on his private and peaceful time. Because of the activities that usually took place in the building, none of the princes liked to spend their time there unless absolutely necessary.
“We should talk in private,” Florian replied firmly.
“Is it something urgent? Can we do this later?” Leonard asked as he glanced at the woman on the bed.
“It’s not urgent but I would rather get it out of the way now rather than later. Just step out with me for a short while and hear me out. It’s not like she’s going to wake up any time soon...” Florian said flatly.
Leonard’s blue eyes narrowed as he stared with clear displeasure at his younger brother. Darius just let out a sigh before waving his hand toward the door to invite his two brothers out. Although Florian had made it clear that he didn’t want to include Darius in their conversation, Darius wasn’t at all bothered by it. He watched silently as his two brothers left the room for their private talk. After the door softly closed behind them and he was left alone in the room with the unconscious woman, he turned his attention to her.
“I don’t even need to guess what they’re going to talk about...” Darius said softly as if speaking to the other person in the room.
Thinking that his brothers would probably take a while, Darius sat down on the chair that Leonard had been sitting. The room was once again silent except for the regular beeping sounds of the various life support machines functioning to keep the figure on the bed alive. It was far from the first time that Darius had seen her although he surely did not have any reason to visit her as often as Leonard did. She held no significance to him, and he had never truly paid her any special attention before. To him, she was just one of the unfortunate many.
His grey eyes lingered on her face for a while, and it felt to him like he was really seeing her for who she was for the first time. The steady beeping sounds of the machines slowly faded from his mind as his brows furrowed. After staring at her face for a while, his eyes slowly travelled down her body without seeing much due to the white cover that had been neatly arranged over her body.
“Well, you do look like your little sister now that I see you up close...” Darius whispered under his breath.
His lips pressed into a thin line when he realized that Asana’s description of the ‘sister’ that she was looking for was quite spot on. Prior to this Darius had not paid any attention to Roxanna, let alone what she looked like. However, after hearing Asana’s description of her and the mention of her name, he realized that he could no longer ignore her presence.
Time slowly crawled by as the prince stared down at Roxanna’s face in silence while his mind conjured up countless problems that could come about. He didn’t want to believe that he could be so careless, but it did not occur to him that someone would come looking for Roxanna. It was even more unbelievable that someone would infiltrate the Secret Chambers for the purpose of looking for her.
The conversation that he had with Asana during the night of the full moon came flooding back so vividly back to him. He had heard vaguely prior to their meeting that she had a very unique personality and didn’t seem to conform with the standard mold of the average ladies living in the Sacred Chambers. At first, he didn’t understand why her attitude was so unique and he didn’t particularly care much about it. However, after hearing her straightforward request, everything started to make sense to him.
