The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 276: He’s Not There
Chapter 276: He’s Not There
“Taking slow and deep breaths. Try not to panic, Mila,” he advised calmly.
“Ok...” I murmured before taking a deep breath just as he had instructed.
...
**Two days later**
The adventurous night of the full moon ended and life in the palace seemed to progress as normal. As for me, the night of the full moon seemed to have lasted for more than just one night. I did not have any recollection of what happened after Prince Leonard comforted me in his arms and I must have fallen asleep. Little did I know that what was supposed to be a nap would last for almost two days.
When I opened my eyes again, I was no longer in the prince’s bed but in my own bed. It took me a while to recognize my surroundings. Despite how disorientated I was when I first woke up, I quickly realized that the prince was no longer by my side. Instead of waking up to see his attractive face, I woke up to see the extremely worried face of my two friends who were sitting on chairs right next to my bed.
“Oh...you’re finally awake...” Salena said softly, and it looked like she was about to start crying.
“What should I do? Should I go get the doctor?” Jessie asked in a panic as she quickly stood up from her seat.
“No...there’s no need for that. I’m fine,” I quickly said as I held up my hand to stop her.
“Are you sure?” Jessie asked as she stared down into my face.
“Yes, I’m fine. I just feel...sleepy...I guess...” I replied truthfully before smiling at both of them.
“You were sleeping for so long and we were so worried,” Salena confessed before she let out a loud sigh.
“A long time?” I repeated her words questioningly because I had no idea what she was talking about.
“Mila, you’ve been sleeping for almost two days since Prince Leonard brought you back here,” Jessie said as she took hold of one of my hands.
“Huh? Really?!” I exclaimed in shock.
I must have had such a stunned expression on my face as I stared at Jessie and then at Salena. Both of them nodded in unison to confirm that it was indeed true. I had no idea at all that I had been sleeping for that long. My hand instinctively moved to cover my lower abdomen where the heat had ravaged my body. The stirring heat was no longer there, and I felt completely fine and normal as if nothing was ever wrong with my body.
“You must be hungry, I’ll get the cooks to make you a delicious meal so that you’ll get your strength back,” Jessie suggested energetically.
“Aha...thanks...” I murmured but my mind was not on the food.
I didn’t have an appetite and I felt very anxious although I didn’t quite understand why. Salena looked at me with a slight frown on her face. Jessie got up and left the room to undoubtedly get me some food which I would have trouble finishing.
“You should get some more rest. You look a little tired...” Salena pointed out in a small voice.
“I’m fine. If I’ve slept for almost two days then I think that’s enough sleep for me already,” I replied while trying to sound brave.
“If you say so...” she murmured.
“Umm...do you know where Prince Leonard is?” I asked without much hope.
“I’m sorry but after escorting you back here, the prince has not visited...” she replied with a forlorn look on her face.
“Oh...” I murmured.
I hated the disappointment in my voice and Salena must have heard it as well because she was flustered and immediately started making excuses for why the prince had not visited me.
“Umm...you know, I’m sure that he’s just very busy with his work...and all that...” she said before trying her best to smile encouragingly at me.
“Don’t worry. I’m not expecting him to be with me all the time. Plus, I was just sleeping so there’s really no need for him to be here,” I replied before returning her smile.
I told myself that I had to be reasonable. Of course, it didn’t make any sense for the prince to wait at my bedside for two entire days while he waited for me to wake up from my slumber. As the prince, he had better things to do and work that he was responsible for. I knew all that too well, but I couldn’t help but feel a slight ache in my chest whenever I thought of him.
I tried to sit up in bed and found that my body felt slightly heavy, and my muscles seemed to complain whenever I tried to move them. Regardless, I forced myself up into a sitting position while waving off Salena’s offer to help me.
“I’m sure that after he hears that you’ve woken up, he’ll be here to see you as soon as possible,” Salena whispered.
“Thanks, but you don’t have to worry about that,” I told her.
After a short while, the door to the room opened. I had expected Jessie to return with food but what surprised me was that she wasn’t alone.
“Madame Sand...” I murmured.
“How are you feeling?” she asked.
I smiled at just how like her it was to get straight to the point. Jessie set up the food close to my bed as Madame Sand came to stand close to me.
“I’m fine. I’m sorry for making you worry like this,” I replied.
“You seem fine enough, I guess,” she said as she stared down and appraised my face.
“Yes, I’m feeling fine now. Thank you for checking up on me,” I reassured her again with a smile.
“That’s good. You should eat your food quickly and if you’re up for it, I have a special lesson scheduled for you today,” Madame Sand announced.
