“I honestly think this mandatory dress code is really bothersome and impractical. Wait here for a bit, I’ll call for someone to bring you a...proper dress...” Prince Leonard said reassuringly.

His graceful hand took out his phone and soon he was on the line with someone that I guessed must have been his butler. The call was very brief with the prince instructing whoever was on the other end of the line to get me a suitable and comfortable dress for me to wear during dinner.

“All done. Your new dress should be here in no time at all,” he said before smiling proudly at me.

For a moment, it looked like he wanted my compliment for his efforts but then I thought that there was no way that the prince would want something as worthless as that.

“Thank you,” I thanked him simply.

After changing into a dress that was more normal and presentable, the prince led me to the dining room. The long marble table the stretched across the center of the large dining room looked like it could easily host thirty people or more. The table was set for just the two of us at one end and I couldn’t help but wonder if this was where Prince Leonard took his regular meals when he was in his palace.

“It is a little lonely, don’t you think?” he said as he pulled out the chair for me.

“Pardon?” I said questioningly.

He smiled at me and waited for me to take my seat before he sat down in the seat on the opposite side of the dining table. So much food had been prepared for us and everything looked fancy enough for it to feel like a banquet, but it was the prince and the way the he was looking at me that captured my attention.

“Eating here in this large room makes you feel a little lonely, doesn’t it?” he asked again before he smiled sweetly at me.

“I guess it does feel that way. Do you usually eat here?” I asked.

“Yes, this is the main dining room in this palace,” he replied casually.

“Alone? Do you...eat here alone?” I asked before I could stop myself.

“Unfortunately, so...” he replied with a light chuckle.

“Oh...” I made a regretful sound before I thought hard about how to get us off this depressing topic.

“You should eat. The cooks would cry if you don’t,” Prince Leonard suggested.

“I’ll try...” I replied as my gaze dropped from the prince’s charming face to the food on the table in front of me.

Time seemed to pass by so slowly as we both ate in silence. Although I had eaten meals with the prince before, having a meal that felt so formal with him made me feel nervous. The fact that I wasn’t at all comfortable with my table manners only made matters worse for me. I was too concerned about whether I was using the right utensils and eating in a polite looking way for me to actually taste or enjoy the food.

“Mila,” the prince called my name out of the blue.

“Y-Yes?” I replied so quickly that I almost choked on my food.

“I need to go on a trip soon and I’d like it if you would accompany me,” he said with some hope in his voice.

His invitation caught me off guard although I had heard something about a trip before when Prince Darius suddenly appeared in my classroom. What surprised me more than anything was the fact that the prince was inviting me instead of simply ordering me to go with him.

“Where are we going?” I asked curiously.

“Abroad. Another country. It’s an official visit but I thought it might be eye-opening for you if you came along,” he explained before smiling at me.

“Another country...” I murmured.

“Yup. Another country. What do you think? Would you like to go on a trip with me?” he asked invitingly.

“Yes. I would love to,” I replied while failing to hide my excitement.

“Great! It’s settled then,” Prince Leonard replied with a bright smile.

I wanted to ask him where exactly we were going and what we would be doing there but I might have been too happy to care too much about the details. It felt enough that the prince had bothered to invite me to go along with him.

“Thank you so much for inviting me, Prince Leonard,” I thanked him.

“Call me Leo, please,” he reminded me with a smile.

“Thank you for inviting me, Leo...” I thanked him again before being sure to return his sweet smile.

The way he smiled at me flooded me with warmth and despite not knowing anything about the trip, I had already started looking forward to it. There was a slight worry in my mind when I thought of the unknown, but I was immediately reassured by the fact that Prince Leonard would be there with me. Prince Leonard was silent for a while, but he kept my eyes on me. It was difficult to put anything in my mouth with him staring so intensely at me. The little piece of meat that I had pierced with the tip of my fork stayed there as I hesitated to put it in my mouth. I wasn’t at all that hungry to begin with, so it truly wasn’t a problem if I didn’t eat at all.
