Chapter 245: Right Match

“Not at all, it’s just not often that people talk to me so freely. I don’t dislike it, so just be yourself,” the prince replied with a smile.

Asana’s eyes widened in slight surprise as she took in Darius’s facial features and the calm yet slightly sharp look in his grey eyes before her lips curved up into a smile that wasn’t just for show. The more she had a closer look at the prince, the more she liked what she was seeing. Although she had heard many things here and there about Prince Darius before as a result of living in the Sacred Chambers, she had no idea how to separate the truth from the rumors and so it came as a slight pleasant surprise to her that the prince seemed to be more easygoing and openminded than she had anticipated.

“I guess you’re just as kind as they say that you are. Thank you, Prince Darius,” she said before she smiled at him again.

“Your words are too kind and there’s no need to thank me. Call me Darius. At least for tonight, we’re supposed to be lovers,” the prince replied as he observed the small woman in front of him.

“Lovers...” she mumbled as if she wasn’t sure what that word really meant.

“That’s right. Tonight, you’re my lover,” Prince Darius said before he offered Asana a smile that she thought looked genuine.

The words that she heard from the other women before came back to her, and for a moment, it almost seemed that she was slightly bothered by them. Her eyes cast downward at her hands as they laid limply on her lap before her gaze returned to the prince’s face just to see him observing her closely.

“I’ve heard that you never choose your own lovers. What do you think of the choice that the committee has made for you tonight?” she asked before she could stop her curiosity and those words from escaping from her lips.

Her direct question and the way that she had asked it seemingly without any hesitation surprised Darius and captured his attention and interest. He couldn’t remember the last time that his lover for the night was this straightforward and bold with him. His gray eyes narrowed slightly at the woman in front of him before a smile naturally appeared on his lips.

“Since you’re asking so directly, I guess I should give you my honest and direct answer as well. When I found out that the committee had chosen you, I felt completely no interest. Of course, I planned to treat you well and I still plan to do that; however, just like the other countless women that I’ve been with, nothing about you captured my attention or my interest. At least, that was the case when I read your profile on paper...” Darius replied before he paused.

“And what about now? What do you think now that you’ve met me in person?” Asana asked as she kept her eyes on the prince’s face.

The way that the prince’s lips moved when he spoke and the way his gaze held hers made her heart flutter in her chest. Asana knew that it was probably because the prince was frankly handsome, attractive, and had good manners. Nothing meant anything special to her; however, she didn’t mind getting infatuated. Some infatuation and attraction would make her work for the night easier for her.

“I think...that the committee might have done an outstanding job in selecting my lover for the night. It’s quite rare. I think I enjoy your directness. It’s just like a breath of fresh air,” he said with a small chuckle that seemed to lighten the mood of the entire room.

“Well, I’m glad that I can entertain you. I have to say that I was slightly worried about meeting you tonight although I didn’t want to admit it,” Asana said before she laughed along with the prince.

“Is that so? Why were you worried?” he asked with some interest.

“You’re probably not aware of this, but the ladies do like to gossip about you and your brothers as well. When everyone found out that I would be spending the night with you, they were truly surprised...” Asana said before she paused to smile.

“Why were they surprised?” Darius asked to prompt her to go on with her little story.

“Umm...because I’m not a virgin...” Asana said before smiling to hide her mix of emotions.

“Why does that matter?” Darius asked after a short moment of silence.

“I don’t know. I guess you’re quite famous for spending your nights with virgins so they probably thought that I wouldn’t really fit your bill,” Asana replied before she shrugged like it wasn’t truly her problem.

“Does that bother you?” he asked.

“Is it supposed to bother me?” she asked as she cocked her head to the side teasingly.

Her words and her reactions drew an amused chuckle from Darius before he started laughing quite loudly. Asana found herself laughing along with him naturally and that surprised her. She had not expected that she would get along with the prince the way that she did.

“You shouldn’t let it bother you. I don’t mind that you’re experienced,” Darius replied bluntly.

For a moment, Asana wasn’t sure how she should feel or how she should respond to the prince. At first, she thought that she didn’t care what he thought but she did find herself feeling relieved that Darius didn’t seem displeased.

“It could be a good change...” Asana said softly as she slowly stood up from her seat.

She could feel the prince’s eyes on her face before it slowly travelled down her body. It was far from the first time that men had looked her body over and she was used to being appraised that way. If she had to spend the night with the prince anyways then there wasn’t much use putting it off any longer. Asana smiled and chuckled to herself at the thought when she realized that the prince must be thinking the same thing.

“Shall we?” she asked suggestively before she flashed Darius a seductive smile.
