Seeing that there was no room for any argument, Sophie bowed her head slightly before hurrying away to fetch the key to her lady’s bedroom.

“Regina...” Madame Sand called out when the maid had gone.

“I’m going to open the door soon,” Madame Sand stated emotionlessly.

“I don’t need your help! Go back!” Regina yelled stubbornly.

A frown formed in between her brows, and she was about to let out another sigh of self-pity before the sound of the maid returning caught her attention.

“The keys?” she asked as she opened her palm.

“Here it is,” Sophie replied politely before placing the key into Madame Sand’s hand.

The door opened and Madame Sand walked in with her back straight and her face composed before she glanced over her shoulder at Sophie.

“You wait outside,” the older woman instructed.

Sophie nodded her head and stepped away before the door closed in front of her face. The Madame wordlessly approached Regina where she was lying on her bed. Her body was curled up in a ball as she lay on her side.

“I told you to leave so why are you in my room?” Regina snapped before her body trembled visibly.

One look at the state that Regina was in was more than enough for Madame Sand to confirm what she already knew was going on.
