The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid
Chapter 201: A Desperate Move

Chapter 201: A Desperate Move

“If you’re hungry, I can cook you something...if you want...” I offered with a smile.

With the limited resources that I had at my disposal and my lack of creative ideas, the only thing that I could come up with to comfort him was to cook for him. It had been a long while since I last did that. We used to eat the food that I cooked together quite often before I found out that he was actually the first prince of the kingdom.

“What are you trying to do?” he asked as his eyes narrowed further at me suspiciously.

“Offering to cook you some food...?” I replied hesitantly as I started to feel confused at his reaction.

The prince took in a deep breath before slowly letting it out while he kept on staring at my face. By that time, I had started to wonder if something was wrong about the offer that I had made.

“Why are you offering to come me some food?” he asked.

Because I thought that he might be hungry...not really...

“Because...I couldn’t think of another way to make you feel less upset...” I replied in a small voice.

Putting my honest feelings into words somehow made me understand myself and what I was actually thinking a lot better than before. I quickly realized that I was making this offer because the prince seemed upset and that only made me feel upset as well. Because I couldn’t deal with the pain in my chest, I thought that if I could make the prince feel better than the pain would go away for me as well. That was probably why I spat out the first thing that came to mind that I thought I could do for him to make him feel better.

I must have sounded quite foolish...

The sound of a chair scraping against the floor of the classroom snapped me out of my thoughts. Prince Leonard had gotten up from his seat and had begun stretching. It seemed like the perfect opportunity for us to take a break from our class. I watched as the prince headed for the door as if I was still lost in a daze.

“Where are you going, Prince Leonard?” I asked as I slowly got up to my feet.

Suddenly, the fear of being left behind served as the best trigger for me to act. Prince Leonard was already right in front of the door when he turned back to look at me.

“Your room. Didn’t you say that you were going to cook for me?” he asked like it was supposed to be something that I should have figured out myself.

Although I was the one who made the offer to cook for him, I somehow found myself confused about what to do now that he had accepted my offer. My feet refused to move as if they had been glued to the spot as I just stood there while my eyes stared at the prince’s attractive face.

“Are you coming?” he asked after a moment of silence.

“Y-Yes...” I replied in a mumble.

...

This is what happens when you don’t think things through, Mila.

I cursed myself for acting on an impulse. The moment the door to my room closed behind me, I was alone with Prince Leonard. My offer had inherently acted like an invitation to bring him to my room. After spending the day sitting at a distance from the prince, having the distance between us close so suddenly made my chest feel uncomfortably tight and I couldn’t ignore the rapid beating of my own heart. The tension in the air seemed to escalate exponentially and so did the faint smell of roses that I thought I had been doing a very good job of ignoring.

Why didn’t you think before you act?!

I ended up inviting the prince to my room all so that I could cook for him. Now that he was here, I had no idea what I was supposed to do. This was far from the first time that I would be cooking for him so I had no idea why my hands were shaking and why I felt so nervous as if I was about to put on a performance that I wasn’t at all ready for. Now that I thought about it, I have never cooked using this kitchen before. To be honest, the beautiful white and grey marble counter top looked so beautiful and pristine that I wasn’t sure if it was even supposed to be used for actual cooking.

“So, what will you cook for me today?” Prince Leonard asked as he came to stand close behind me.

I whirled around while trying to keep an extremely shocked expression from my face at how suddenly close to me he was. No matter how many times I told myself to calm down, it seemed impossible to calm the wild beating of my heart. Prince Leonard gave me a curious look that made me wonder what kind of face I was making at that moment.

“Please wait for a moment. I’ll get Salena to bring some ingredients from the main kitchen...” I quickly said while cursing how flustered I sounded.

Why did I invite the prince here when I didn’t have anything ready?

I knew that the kitchen was empty even without having to check. Food was usually delivered and served from the main kitchen by my dear two friends and that meant that there was no need for there to be any fresh ingredients in the fridge. I quickly picked up the phone and dialed the number which I knew would connect me to either Salena, Jessie, or one of the other maids.

“Hi...I need you to bring some ingredients from the kitchen. Yes, to my room. Yes, I am in a hurry...” I spoke in hushed tones into the phone.

I glanced over at Prince Leonard to see him just standing idly by. It felt like I was going through one disaster after the next. Of all the things, I had to make the prince wait for his meal.
