The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 175: To Prove Him Wrong
Chapter 175: To Prove Him Wrong
“Obviously, I am not going to be your teacher for everything. In fact, I can only teach you the expectations of an honorable maiden and some other basic skills. For the other lessons that you will be required to attend, there will be specialized teachers that will help guide you. Is that clear?” Madame asked as she started her lecture.
“Yes, Madame...” I replied.
“Good. During the next few months, you will be expected to study economics, history, international politics, etiquette, and dance. Are there any topics that you are already familiar with?” she said before narrowing her eyes a little at me.
Apart from cleaning and cooking, I doubt I could be called familiar with anything else. I shook my head to reply to her question.
“I expected that, and I instructed all your teachers to start from the very basics in your education. A schedule has been prepared for you and you are to follow it strictly, do you understand?” she asked again.
“Yes, I understand,” I replied as expected.
“You will have your classes during the day with a lunch break in between. After your classes are over, you are free to do as you wish. Of course, on nights where you are summoned by the prince, you will serve him,” Madame Sand concluded with a firm nod of her head.
This honorable maiden business was proving to become even more complicated and difficult. However, if I treated it as a job then it didn’t seem so bad. I would study in the place of working during the day and that would help me pick up some skills which may be useful later on if and when I get out of here. At night, I would spend time with Prince Leonard...
‘Mila isn’t suitable for the position. She doesn’t have the qualities required for her to become an honorable maiden...’
Thinking of the prince brought back the words that he said to the king when I was appointed as an honorable maiden. Perhaps to him, I still wasn’t qualified to hold such a position even if I had been appointed by the king himself. Along with my memories of his words came the reminder of the promise that I had made to myself to prove him wrong.
Even someone like me could...
“Madame Sand, if I focus on my classes and do well, will I become a successful honorable maiden?” I asked.
My question seemed to have surprised her and after staring at me with widened eyes for a brief moment, her expression softened, and she smiled at me a little.
“Of course, My Lady. Possessing all the required skills and knowledge will help make the prince acknowledge you as well as make you ready to stand by his side. We’re all here to help you and remember that I am always praying for your success,” Madame Sand replied in a much warmer tone than I had expected.
“I’ll try my best,” I said with determination.
“You better. I am sure that Prince Leonard has very high expectations of you,” she said while quickly returning to her strict self.
I’m not so sure about that...
Instead of voicing my counter opinion, I decided to smile at her instead. Maybe it was because Prince Leonard didn’t seem to be expecting very much from me that I was so determined and stubborn to prove him wrong.
“Let me introduce you to your teacher for today. You will be studying history in the morning followed by economics in the afternoon,” Madame Sand informed me.
My history teacher turned out to me a man who looked to be in his fifties if not older. Madame Sand had arranged a private classroom for me for my studies. I would stay in the same classroom while my teachers will arrive based on their scheduled time to teach me. I bowed to my new teacher to show my respect and she smiled at me welcomingly. Her round face matched well with her round body and her slightly wavy grey hair looked like fine silver threads. The round light gold rim glasses that she had on only added to her academic looks.
“This is Lady Coleman. She will be your history teacher,” Madame Sand quickly introduced him.
“It is an honor, My Lady. Please call me Anna,” she said politely.
“It is a pleasure to meet you. Please call me Mila,” I replied just as politely.
“Well then, I’ll leave you two to get started. Please take care of Lady Mila well,” Madame Sand said before taking her leave.
Now that my first formal class was about to start, I started to feel slightly nervous. I wondered if my teacher would be shocked at how little I knew even at my age. The fact that I came from another country and wasn’t schooled properly would clearly show in my lack of knowledge.
“How much do you know about the history of his kingdom?” she asked.
“Not much beyond what Madame Sand had taught me...” I replied while wondering if Anna was aware of that fact that the ruling royal family are wolves.
“I see. How much do you know about world history? For example, the world wars, the industrial revolution...” she asked.
“I’ve only heard of them broadly but have never studied them in detail before...” I replied honestly.
“I see. Very well then, we shall start from the very beginning. First off, I suggest we start with the history of this kingdom. Here is a textbook with some very nice illustrations about the history of this kingdom,” Anna said brightly before taking out a textbook.
I had thought that she would show disapproval or disappointment at my lack of knowledge but that didn’t seem to be the case. On the contrary, it seemed like she was please to understand how she could help me. I had never had a proper teacher before, but I could feel that Anna was going to be an excellent teacher for me.
Unlike the brief history lecture that Madame Sand had given me before, Anna really went to the very beginning even before the establishment of the kingdom. I found the facts intriguing and soon found out that Anna also knew about the royal family being wolves and also the fact that many people in this kingdom possesses innate wolf genes at varying degrees.
