Chapter 134: Fearing the Prince

Chapter 134: Fearing the Prince

Madame Sand’s words bothered me although I should have known that there was no way that the princes would have only one lover. This place that I was sitting in was practically their harem and I had no idea why a place like this still exists in this modern world; however, things worked very differently here from what I was used to.

The image of Prince Leonard with another woman flashed through my mind and suddenly there was a sickening feeling deep in my core. I winced as if the thought of it brought pain to my mind as my chest tightened slightly.

What am I even thinking?

I had no idea how long I was swallowed up in my troublesome thoughts until I heard a firm knock on my door. This time, it had to be Prince Leonard. I jumped out of my seat as my heart began to race wildly in my chest.

“Yes?” I called out as I quickly made my way to the door.

Although, I thought that I had dreaded seeing him, now that he was standing right in front of my door, it seemed like my feet couldn’t carry me there fast enough. I opened the door and immediately came face to face with the prince. His blue eyes widened slightly as he stared down at my face and then he had a curious look on his face.

“You sure look...a little different...” he said softly.

“Do I look...strange?” I asked as I started to panic.

I should have known that getting all dolled up like this would be weird for someone like me. I bet it was the make-up and also the dress that didn’t seem to suit me. If I knew that he would think that I looked strange, I wouldn’t have let those women do all of this to me. I should have just worn my maid uniform like before without any makeup on.

“You look very pretty,” he said as he brought his face down to my level.

I gasped in shock now that his face so was so close, and his eyes stared deeply into mine. He chuckled softly at my reaction and then I felt a soft fleeting warmth on the corner of my lips. It happened so quickly that I was taken by surprise and wasn’t sure if it really happened. My fingertips flew to where the prince had just planted a soft kiss on the corner of my lips.

“Your lips are pink and your smell much sweeter than normal today,” he complimented me directly.

Was this what he meant when he told me that I looked a little different?

“May I come in?” he asked casually.

“Umm...sure...” I whispered as I stood to the side to let him in.

My heart raced so fast in my chest, and I was sure that I was blushing. I hung my head low so that he wouldn’t see me blushing like mad. The prince walked past me and into the room and I carefully closed the door behind me before following him into the living room. We were alone in the room again, and I was scared of what to expect next.

Unlike that day that he rescued me from the baths, Prince Leonard had changed into very casual looking clothes. The white linen shirt hung quite loosely from his muscular frame and that was paired with a simple pair of blue jeans. I had to say that this combination of clothes reminded me of when we spent time together before I found out that he was a prince. I have always thought that the combination brought out the colors of his blue eyes and I still thought the same way.

Prince Leonard sat down on the sofa, and I could feel his eyes on me while I hesitated to approach him. Madame Sand’s words rung in my ears as they played themselves over and over in my head. I felt like I was about to go insane. I better talk things out with Prince Leonard before he either got the wrong idea about what I wanted or before I went completely insane from my own stress and frustrations.

“Come over here, Mila. What are you doing just standing there?” he instructed and waved me over with the elegant movement of his hand.

“Ok...” I replied softly.

I walked over and sat down on the sofa next to the prince. We were in the exact same position as we were before, and it made me recall the last time that we were here together. All of that happened and then, I ended up running away from him in the end.

“Are you scared?” he asked quite bluntly.

“I’m...not sure...” I replied truthfully.

“Did Madame Sand scare you even more by going through the rules and all that?” he asked knowingly.

“Sort of...” I whispered.

The prince nodded as if in understanding before he slowly reached his hand towards mine. Instinctively, I drew my hand away from his before he could reach it.

“I guess you’re scared of me and what I might do to you now...” he said with some regret in his voice.

I hated that sad and lonely tone that he just used, and I wondered why it seemed to depress me as well.

“That’s not...” I began correcting him, but I had to stop myself.

This is so unfair. If I told him that I didn’t mind it then, I didn’t know how far this would lead. What am I supposed to do?

To my surprise, instead of pushing me, the prince retreated away and gave me some space. His hand dropped to his side and there was an awkward silence between us. I wished that Madame Sand didn’t go ahead and say all those things to me. Now all I could think about was how to shake of the prince’s advances because I didn’t want to mate with him although the prince hasn’t actually done anything to me yet since entering the room. For a moment, I started to curse the fool that I was.
