Chapter 133: Dreaded Meeting

“Right...” I murmured to show her that I understood.

Does that mean that Prince Leonard will be involved with someone else or maybe he’s already involved with someone else?

“That is all for today. I’m sure that that is a lot of information for you already. Do you have any questions?” she asked.

“No. Thank you,” I replied although I had an endless list of questions.

The madame smiled at me before she nodded her head a few times. She approached me and then I felt the slight pressure of her hand on my shoulder.

“Good luck, Mila. The future and fate of this kingdom is in your hands,” she said, and I could see tears swimming in the depth of her eyes.

I wanted to tell her just how misplaced her trust was but all I could do was smile awkwardly.

**Later that night**

I wished and then prayed that the sun would not set, and night would not arrive. Once again, no one bothered to listen or answer my prayers. I watched the sunset from the balcony of my new room. It was honestly a very beautiful sight, and I would have felt very refreshed just to see it had I not been too anxious and dreading my eventual meeting with Prince Leonard later on.

It didn’t take long for the entire sky to turn dark after the sun had dipped below the horizon. The stars soon came out and decorated the sky with their sparkles. As the scenery around me started to change, the more nervous I got about meeting the prince.

Suddenly, there was a knock at my door. I almost screamed as I jumped at the sudden sound. It was still quite early, and a knot formed in the pit of my stomach at the thought that the prince must have arrived already. Ignoring the weakness in my legs and how they shook slightly, I made my way to the door and then opened it slowly.

“Sorry to disturb you but Madame Sand had instructed us to help you get ready,” a young woman who must have only been a few years older than me said.

I looked behind her to see three other women dressed in the same uniform as her. Although I was confused, I decided to step back and let them all into my room.

“It is standard procedure for us to help you dress up and get ready every night before you receive the prince,” she informed me factually.

“I see...” I murmured.

Apparently, getting to spend a night with one of the princes was a very big deal. The women entered my room and began setting up the tools that they had brought with them. There was makeup and hair styling equipment that all seemed so complex.

“Do you have a style in mind?” one of the women asked me.

“Umm...no...” I replied truthfully.

“Then, please leave it to us. Don’t worry, we’ll make sure that you look breathtakingly beautiful,” she said with confidence.

“Let’s start by picking out an outfit. Usually, I would suggest a dress that looks quite elegant while being easy to move in. Of course, one that is easily removed,” another woman said as she started going through the dresses that were on the hangers.

“Easy to remove?” I murmured questioningly to myself.

If the women heard me, they decided to completely ignore it. After a moment of going through the dresses that I had in my room, she turned back to me as she held up a magenta dress made of pleated fabric that made the skirt look like it had loads of volume to it.

“What about this one?” she suggested.

“Sure...” I replied without even thinking about it.

This dress is as good as any other because I didn’t have any real preference in the matter at all. I was too concerned about how to dissuade the prince from mating with me to care about which dress to wear. The women all seemed pleased with my lack of preference because that probably made their work easier for them. They chased me into the shower where they instructed me to use a special scented soap to wash myself. It took them quite a while for them to help me get dressed and do my make-up and hair.

“Wow, you look like a completely different person. So beautiful!” one of them exclaimed as she ushered me towards the largfull-bodydy mirror that was in the room.

“I completely agree. The prince is going to be bewitched by you,” another chimed in in agreement.

I also gasped out loud when I saw my own reflection in the mirror. Although I still looked like myself, I was transformed by the makeup to be considerably more attractive. I was immediately reminded of the beauty of the other honorable maidens that I have seen during that afternoon tea party and how beautifully they were dressed. My face was made up in sparkling pink and soft gold tones that matched the rosy, pink lipstick that I had on. The dress that hung down to my knees made me look like a lady. My hair was curled into well-formed locks.

“The prince should be here to see you soon. Please wait patiently here in your room,” she instructed with a polite smile.

Without another word to me, they left the room as suddenly as they had arrived, and I was left all alone in my room once more. Now that I was alone, I sat down on the sofa as my mind raced to figure out a solution. Maybe I should just tell the prince bluntly that I didn’t want to have his child. Since there were many women for him to choose from, it should not bother him if he finds out that I am unwilling. I didn’t think that he would force me if I didn’t go along with his advances. That was probably my best bet.

The silence of the room made me feel slightly lonely and soon I realized that I didn’t want to be with the prince if he didn’t honestly want me.
