Chapter 109: Confession & Fond Memories
“Do you remember that time when I was sick when we were younger?” she asked, and her voice sounded brighter than before.
“When you had a fever and had to miss out on the festival?” I replied with my best guess of what she was referring to.
“Yes, that time...” she replied with a smile.
If I remembered correctly that day, there was a festival out in the city and Regina really wanted to go. Her father, being the strict man that he is, wouldn’t allow her to go unless she got permission to come along with me and the other princes. After spending almost a week trying to do well in her various lessons, she was finally allowed to come along. However, things didn’t go quite as planned. The night before the festival, Regina got ill from her allergies and had to stay back at the palace.
“You were really sad and complained a lot,” I said before I smiled at her.
“Do you remember what happened in the end?” she asked as her eyes stared up at my face.
“I volunteered to stay back with you so that you wouldn’t have to be stuck in bed all alone in the palace while we all went off to have fun at the festival,” I replied before I laughed a little.
There were many fond memories that I shared with Regina. Out of the three of us, she was the closest to me and that was probably because I cared about her the most. Darius had always been cold to her and did not bother to put in any effort to entertain her at all. Florian was too busy bullying her and acting like a naughty boy to really become her friend. By the process of elimination, she was stuck with me. I looked down at her sleeping on her bed and I was reminded again of the little girl who was stuck in bed because of her illness.
“Thank you for staying with me Leo...” she said with a small smile.
I did not miss her use of my nickname despite my standing order for her to address me as Prince Leonard; however, I decided to let it slide.
“You should go to sleep, Gina,” I whispered as I moved my hand to stroke the top of her head softly.
If only we didn’t grow up, then the four of us could have played around under that big old tree together forever while trying our best to stop Florian from climbing it. Darius would sleep on the grass with one of his thick books resting on his chest or covering his face to shield it from the sun.
“Leo!” she called my name surprisingly loudly.
Her hand pulled hard on my arm as she prevented me from leaving. The talk that we just had seemed to have made her feel better and I didn’t think that she was feeling very ill anymore. Regina seemed to hesitate as I waited for her to say what was really on her mind.
“Leo...you know why I moved to live her in this palace, right?” she asked before biting down on her lower lip.
I could tell that she was nervous and anxious and that only added to my confusion. I had no idea why she brought up that topic or what she expected to gain from it.
“Of course, I do. Everyone does...” I replied without much interest.
“If that’s the case then...when will you...” Regina began asking before she trailed off.
Once again, I had no idea why she brought this up if it was just going to trouble both of us without yielding any results.
“Sleep with you?” I finished her sentence for her.
Regina looked stunned at my direct words, and I didn’t understand why she had to act that way. After all, she was the one who almost let those vicious words slip out of her mouth. Her words and her intentions of dragging me all the way to her room infuriated me more than I initial thought that it would. My life was already complicated the way it was and dealing with the wolf inside me was becoming more bothersome day by day. The last thing I needed was for this difficult little girl here to demand for me to fuck her just to meet people’s expectations.
She’s like a younger sister to me and my friend. Since when had she stopped acting like one?
“Regina, I think you’re just tired and confused. You’re a strong-willed girl so I think it is very unlike you to let your father sway you like this. Why would you let him force you into doing something that you wouldn’t want to do? Mating and bearing whether it be a child or pups aren’t something to be taken lightly...” I reminded her sternly.
Regina was silent for a moment, and she wouldn’t meet my eyes. I had no idea what she was thinking but I was sure that she understood what I meant very well. She could be stubborn sometimes, but she was far from being stupid.
“Leo...” she whispered her name and her voice sounded strangely strained.
I glanced down and realized that her hands were balled into tight fists and then her shoulders started to tremble as if she was desperately holding something in. Not knowing what to do or say, I simply waited for her to continue with what she wanted to say.
“The truth is...I am not being forced into this...” she said so softly that at first, I thought that I had misheard her.
What does she mean by she wasn’t forced into this?
“What do you mean?” I asked in a detached tone.
“Exactly as it sounds. I wasn’t forced by my father to do this otherwise; I wouldn’t have gone along with it for this long...” she mumbled before her eyes met mine again.
That was probably when I realized that she was serious and that she probably meant what she was saying although it made absolutely no sense to me.
