The Alpha Prince's Purchased Maid -
Chapter 108: A Sick Lady
Chapter 108: A Sick Lady
Regina’s eyes darted all around as her mind tried to come up with a reason or an excuse for me to stay. I pitied her and the situation that she was in. The fact that we were close had made me go easy on her in many ways just like I had spoiled her in the past as my little sister. However, things have changed, and I wasn’t sure how much longer I could let her play her little games before I needed to shut them all down completely. I was willing to turn a blind eye to things as long as no clear harm was done; however, things have gotten out of hand as of late.
“I think...I’m not feeling well...” she murmured softly as her eyes dropped downwards.
“What is wrong? Should I call for a doctor?” I asked.
“No...I...” she murmured before she hesitated.
I had no idea if she was truly sick or if she was just using it as an excuse to make me stay; however, it was always better to be safe rather than sorry. If she was really feeling ill, then she needed to be taken care of.
“Regina, how are you feeling?” I asked with concern.
“I have a headache...” she said in a small voice as her hand moved to her temple.
She closed her eyes as if in pain and I let out a sigh.
“You should get some rest. I’ll call for a maid to take you to your room. Where is that woman who is usually with you?” I asked.
Regina took a step towards me and clutched at my arm with her hands as she stared up into my face with pleading eyes and then she shook her head. I looked around the room in search for help, but no one was there. I felt a weight against my arm when Regina started leaning on me for support.
“Regina, can you walk?” I asked softly.
The movement of her head against my arm as she nodded her head was the only response that I got from her. Just when her mistress is sick, that maid that is usually around isn’t around to serve her. What is wrong with this world?
“Come. I’ll help you back to your room...” I told her as I wrapped an arm around her waist to better support her.
I wished that I could leave but I couldn’t leave Regina alone now that she seemed unwell. The least that I could do was take her back to her room. After that the maids can deal with her and if she doesn’t get better, they can call for a royal doctor to take care of her.
“Thank you...Prince Leonard...” she whispered softly against my chest.
“It’s fine. You don’t need to say anything...” I told her in the most reassuring voice that I could muster.
When I pushed the door to the dining room open and supported Regina out into the hallway, there was only one maid there. The maid’s eyes widened in shock when she saw us, and her eyes immediately landed on Regina.
“Lady Regina is not feeling well. Please help lead the way to her room...” I instructed.
“Yes, Your Highness. Please follow me this way,” the maid quickly replied with slight panic in her voice.
Regina made soft moaning sounds of discomfort as I continued to support her along the hallway. I knew very well that this palace was large and that it would be quite a walk away before we reached her room. Hopefully she could hang on until then.
“Hang in there, Regina...” I whispered to her.
“Thank you...” she thanked me as her hands clutched tighter at my clothes.
It took a while, but we managed to arrive without incident at her bedroom. The maid quickly opened the door for us, and I supported Regina inside and towards her bed. Gently, I lifted her up and laid her down on her bed.
“Call for the doctor,” I instructed the maid.
“Yes, Your Highness...” she quickly responded.
“Wait. There’s no need for that. I’m just tired and...I’m sure I’ll be alright after some rest...” Regina spoke up weakly as she reached for my hand.
“Are you sure?” I asked with my own doubts in mind.
“Yes. There is no need to call for a doctor,” Regina said firmly.
The maid nodded before silently slipping away from the room and closing the door softly behind her. That left Regina and me alone in her bedroom, a convenient situation that would be celebrated by many people. I glanced down at her beautiful hand and it rested on top of mine on the bed before my eyes shifted to her face.
“Prince Leonard, can you stay with me until I fall asleep?” Regina asked in a sweet voice.
“You should go to sleep immediately and be sure to get enough rest,” I advised.
“Are you...worried about me?” she asked hesitantly.
“Of course, I’m worried about you. You take better care of yourself and stay out of trouble,” I told her what was honestly on my mind.
“You talk to me like I’m a child...” she mumbled but I did not miss her words.
“Then you should stop acting like one. Be more reasonable and logical in your actions...” I replied.
I was sure that she knew what I was referring to, but I wasn’t sure if she regretted anything that she had done. Her situation had made her desperate and it was partly my fault that she was trapped the way she was now. My efforts to stay away from her with my hopes to make her father and the rest of their supporters give up on trying to build a relationship between us seemed to have backfired. Her lack of progress even after getting permission to move to live in the palace must have been extremely frustrating to her father and their supporters. She must have faced even more pressure from all sides and when people are under pressure, they sometimes resort to extremely desperate actions.
