Chapter 933: TACIT UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THEM
Chapter 933: TACIT UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THEM
Iris dreaded the thought that she was going to lose the people she loved. People, who were close to her. She lifted her head and watched the vast land, where she found thousand of cocoons with the color of white, under the bright light of the sun, the cocoons glimmered like the surface of the frozen lake.
This feeling made Iris swallowed so hard. She gritted her teeth because she was afraid of the worse. Would she have enough time to save them all? Would she be able to find Aliana, Ethan, Jace, Amee, Joel, Redmond and many more...
She felt like she was about to cry when Cane grabbed her hand.
"Iris. Iris." Cane had to call her name a few times before he could get to her and he got her attention. "How do you know the position of the spiderlings?" He was still holding Iris’s hand, while she looked at him with helplessness in her beautiful blue eyes. He didn’t like the sight of this, as if she lost her hope.
"Wh- what? What do you want to know?" Iris confused.
"Just explained to me," Cane said.
Iris didn’t know what he meant with that, but she complied and started to explain how she was able to pinpoint the spiderlings within the shifter’s body.
The spiderlings were infused by black magic and there were three to ten spiderlings inside one body, which determined how long one shifter could survive.
In Will’s case, there were around seven spiderlings, which was one of the reasons why he was in critical condition right now.
Iris was able to see the spiderlings because of the black magic within them, it almost felt like she saw the shard of black magic within Cane’s body when Aria tried to curse him in the past. It was the same like that.
"Do you mean like this black dot on his red skin?" Cezi asked suddenly.
"What red skin?" Hanna asked.
That was the same question that Cane had when Cezi said Will’s skin had turned red, but in his eyes, his warrior was as pale as snow. How he could say something strange?
"No, the color of his skin is red," Lou and Zale said, which only confused Hanna even more.
"No, can’t you see he is so pale," she retorted, which made Iris frowned. How could Hanna see something different from them.
"No, this is red. His skin is red," Cedric chimed in.
Hanna looked frustrated. She knew what she was seeing and she couldn’t understand why they saw it differently?
"Alpha, what color of Will’s skin?" Hanna looked at Cane because he was the only one, who had not yet said what he was seeing.
After that, all eyes were on the alpha and they were shocked when they heard his answer.
"His skin is pale."
"What?" Iris frowned so hard. "How can you say that? This is..."
"You and your protectors saw thing differently from us, Iris," Cane concluded, he cut her word and this was the only explanation that made sense for their current situation.
Even Zale, Lou and Cedric confirmed that they could see the black dot on Will’s body, around his chest, but they didn’t think much about it and probably they wouldn’t even notice the difference of the way they saw it if it was not for Cezi, who asked Cane and the alpha thought thing thoroughly and drew an amazing conclusion.
"But, I am not," Cezi said, reminded them that he was not one of Iris’s protectors.
This time, everyone looked at him and it was Lou, who jumped on him and ripped his clothes off. Cezi didn’t see it coming and didn’t have a chance to dodge, thus in the next second, his body was exposed and Lou turned him around to see his back.
"No! No way! I don’t want this!" Lou wailed, he looked extremely upset when he saw the birthmark on Cezi’s back. "This is not possible! This must be fake!"
Iris looked surprised, but Cane seemed to have expected this ever since he saw Cezi with the other Iris’s protectors.
Even Cezi himself didn’t expect this.
"I didn’t know I have a birthmark," Cezi said, he was sure that he didn’t have the birthmark on his back, but this was the same case like with Cedric. The two of them didn’t have it in the beginning, but right now their mark had been touched without them even knowing it.
However, Cane immediately controlled the situation, where he told them about his theory. If he was right, the other people could help Iris to cleanse the warriors from the spiderlings within their body, while Cane would take them out of the cocoon, with this, they could work four times faster.
But...
If Cane’s theory was proven worked. If his conclusion was right. If Cane really could read the way Iris’s divine power worked on her protectors.
"Let’s try," Cedric said. He listened carefully and drew a conclusion that he was willing to give it a try.
Of course, they didn’t try it on Will. Having this hope again, Iris started to work on Will and they watched closely.
In Cane and Hanna’s eyes, there was nothing different. They could only see the white light from Iris’s palm, but aside from that, there was nothing else.
However, it was different with the other four people with them. Lou, Zale, Cedric and Cezi watched how the black dots disappeared and Will’s skin turned pale like how Hanna described him.
Earlier, all of them were too panic to notice this.
Cedric failed in his first attempt, but Lou could do it without problem, since he was very familiar with magic.
"This is a piece of cake!" Lou said smugly. "Everyone, follow my instruction!" He took the lead to teach them and this made Iris wanted laugh and kicked the merchant’s leg because of his cockiness.
However, Iris couldn’t deny the feeling of relief that she felt.
"Don’t go." Cane grabbed Iris’s hand when she was about to go to the next person. "Summon the Sylph again and this will help them faster." Cane seemed to have a better understanding of Iris’s power than herself.
"But, I need to help them."
"No. Summon the Sylph, you will be able to help Zale and Cezi to get a better understanding with magic." The air spirit could enhance your power, thus it would help with the two shifters, while Cedric managed to get a hang of his newly found power after the third attempts, since he was not strange with magic.
Iris wanted to retort that she could summon the Sylph and helped as well, but the look on Cane’s face made her swallowed back her protest.
She then did what she was told and right at that time, Abby regained her consciousness, so did Will, but the latter looked very weak.
Hanna immediately hugged him, tears streamed down her face because she was very afraid that she was going to lose him. The thought about it alone dreaded her so much.
Hanna had looked for him with a slight luck she could find him among these thousands of cocoons. She realized a way to find Will when she sniffed one of the cocoons and she could smell the scent from the person inside of it.
The scent was very faint, but needless to say, it was still there and Hanna only hang onto that small hope and miracle.
"Are you, okay?" Cedric asked Abby, who was still disoriented. She looked fine, only a little bit tired and out of energy.
Meanwhile, Cane pulled Iris aside and pointed his finger at the group of the people from the Holy Kingdom.
"Can you feel Rei from here?" Cane asked.
"Yes." Iris thought the people from the Holy Kingdom would charge toward them and attack them under the influence, but as it turned out, they only stood there in the same place, since the first time they were here. Iris was not sure whether she had to be grateful for this or not. "How do you know that?"
Cane narrowed his eyes, his gaze fixed on them. "Can you feel Decratic too?"
"Yes." Iris looked at Cane with surprise. "How do you know about that?"
Cane stretched out his hand and caressed her cheek. "Because you kept staring at both directions, love." He gritted his teeth. Their situation was not good and no matter what, they were going to have this battle sooner or later.
"Cane," Iris called his name and Cane hugged her, as he kissed her forehead. "The babies are moving..." She took his hand and put it on top of her belly, as they could feel the babies’ first move.
This should be the happiest moment for both of them, but along with it there was bitterness in their eyes.
"Everything will fine, right?" Iris said. The babies were still moving and Cane stared at her belly with a deep gaze. "Even if it’s not, I will always be with you." Iris tiptoed and kissed his chin. "We will go through this together."
Whether they were going to have victory, or they had to endure the worst, they were going through it together.
"Everything will be fine. We don’t know about it yet," Cane said. He hugged her a little bit tighter.
"I think it’s time for us to go?"
"Yes." Cane then shifted into his beast and Iris climbed on his back.
It seemed there was a tacit understanding between the two of them as they thought the same thing without even saying it.
