The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 917: YOU WILL BE IN CHARGE
Chapter 917: YOU WILL BE IN CHARGE
Cane watched everything when he heard Iris rushed toward the fighting scene, his heart skipped a beat when he saw she was already very close to the battle, but then Lil Thing stopped and he watched the most amazing thing that had ever happened in his life.
This was not the first time Cane witnessed Iris used her power in this way, in fact, he was the first person, who experienced the first hand how painful it was when she squeezed your spirit.
However, right at that time, he knew how amazing the woman he was with. The mother of his children. How strong she became right now, but even with that fact, it didn’t mean Cane would stop worrying about her. He would always be worried about her.
"Never do it again," Cane said in stern voice, he nibbled on the tip of her nose, but when she didn’t reply, he lifted his head and looked at her blue eyes.
"I can’t promise you that." Iris raised her hand and caressed his face. His hair needed to have a cut, since it had grown so long. "You know that with my power I can make things way easier for you."
"I don’t want you to get involved." Cane knew if he used Iris, he would get some tasks done way easier and more effective, but he couldn’t see her like that. He was not sure since when he counted her out of his calculative plan, because surely enough he didn’t have this feeling in the beginning.
"Cane, you know that you can count on me now. I am not helpless and I can help you."
"You are pregnant."
Iris wanted to laugh, what kind of excuse was that. She lifted her head slightly and kissed the tip of his nose. "I am well aware about that, but thank you for reminding me."
"Don’t be sarcastic with me."
"Cane." Iris cupped his face. She knew how much he was worried about her and their babies and losing their children still left fresh wound in their memories, after all, it happened less than a year ago. "No matter how much you tried to protect me, we ended up losing our babies too."
Cane grimaced. They didn’t talk about this often, because it left them with more agony after the conversation.
"You said it yourself that sometime, the best defence is an attack." Iris’s voice was as gentle as the wind. "We have tried to shield me and our babies from our enemies, but it didn’t work, maybe we need to think in different way of how to protect ourselves and the babies. For as long as our enemies still stand, there is no place we can call as safe."
Iris could see that Cane understood what she was saying, but it was still hard for him to let Iris got involved actively. Having her within the campsite during this journey already counted as Cane took a few steps back and suppressed his ego to put her out of harm way.
"Cane, I will not do something recklessly and put our children in danger."
Cane cared for their children, but above that, he didn’t want her to get hurt. He would love their children, but if something happened to Iris...
He buried his face against the crook of her shoulders, breathing in her scent to calm his nerves. "No charge forward into danger without any discussion with me. This is the deal, there is no discussion."
Iris hugged his big body. "Okay," she agreed readily.
Once again, Cane relented to her wish and let her got more involved. In the end of the day, Cane also realized he wouldn’t put aside Iris completely when this war was about her too.
The sudden attack was completely a stupid move. Vincent, the gamma of the pack, who became the leader because of the absent of the alpha and the beta didn’t expect what Iris was capable of doing.
His aimed was to get Cane’s supply, because famine had plagued their pack since two months ago, he thought sudden attack would be the best option, the first warriors would manage to keep their enemy busy, while the second warriors would be able to sneak into their food storage.
However, with two group of warriors were being caught, Vincent couldn’t do anything, but to open the gate to the pack.
They couldn’t afford any battle, since their best warriors were being caught and they didn’t have a way to survive if they had to isolate themselves. The famine had ruined this pack and their hope to get any help from the Capital City, had long been shattered. That place was in lock down in the last report he received. Something weird was going on there.
"Cane... these people..." Iris stared at the people in the Golden Light pack member. They looked at Cane’s entourage in fear. They were afraid something would happen to them that these people would harm them.
Cane glanced, he didn’t need to look at it closely to know what happened. "Alpha Dex seemingly had abandoned his own pack and took half of his warriors to make a stronghold in the Red Claw pack. They left behind the weaker people."
Therefore, aside from the warriors that had captured, the rest of the Golden Light pack was children, women and older people. Vincent, the gamma, must be the capable one to run the pack, but even him was having a hard time to manage the pack, while running out of food without having any help.
After the battle between alpha Dex and alpha Colter in Aggeverya road, alpha Dex chose to dig his claw in Red Claw pack.
After all, wealth wise, Golden Light pack didn’t give him any benefit, aside from a large land and a lot of pack member, while Red Claw pack had this magic stone mine. The biggest mines site. The richest pack. Who would let go of such juicy meat?
"Their attack must be their desperate attempt," Cane said curtly. Iris turned her body and looked at him. "What?" Actually, he didn’t need to ask what she wanted, since he could already guess it.
"You will not..." Iris chose her words carefully. "You will help them, right? We have merchant on our side and they can give us an abundant supply."
Cane stared into her eyes for a long while, which made Iris nervous, but her heart lurched to her stomach when Cane replied.
"No. I will not."
"Cane?" Iris was shocked. She was not ready for another argumentation after the one they had when she charged toward the fighting scene.
However, Cane added and her heart could settle back in her chest.
"You will be the one, who helped them. Being kind and generous are not the image I want." Cane kissed her lips, tasted her mouth.
Iris chuckled and swatted his hand when he touched her earlobe. "So, what image do you want? A scary alpha?"
Cane thought about that for a while, but now he was nibbling on her neck. "That doesn’t sound too bad."
"You wanted to be remembered as a scary alpha?"
"At the very least, I can make people have a second thought if they wanted to mess with me."
True to his word, Cane had a few merchants to deliver supplies for this pack. Out of their gratitude for saving their lives, they didn’t question this and immediately wrote letter to their ships.
The supply would arrive within ten days and for now, the supply they had would be enough for all of them as long as they used it wisely.
Vincent knelt down in front of Iris and Cane when they arrived at the pack house, also all the people, who lived there, which most of them were elders. They looked scared. Their pride as the pack of warriors had been thrown out of the window, since there were barely warriors left in this pack.
They were afraid because they knew how bad a fallen pack could be. Slavery was what followed after the claimed of their pack and that was a common thing in this realm.
Iris’s heart hurt to see them. When the people in the higher position fought for their greediness, the people bellowed them had to join the battle and fought for their lives.
"Cane..." Iris tugged on his sleeve. She felt uncomfortable to see them kneeling like that with their head hit the ground. A gesture of a complete surrender.
Cane understood. He kissed her cheek. "You can deal with them as you see fit, you have dealt with Blue Moon pack brilliantly before." A beautiful smile appeared on her lips. Yet, there was still a warning. "But Dean and Pax will kill them right there and then if they saw they were a threat for you."
"Thank you! You are the best!" Iris tiptoed to kiss his cheek and Cane had to bend his body slightly to accommodate her height.
Afterward, Cane walked past Vincent and the rest of the people, who were still kneeling on the floor. He didn’t even spare them a glance. He didn’t want to see them, because it reminded him of his past and his people.
Meanwhile, Cezi smiled and nodded politely at Iris when he followed Cane.
"What are you going to do with them?" Ethan approached Iris. He listened some of their conversation, especially when Cane put Iris in charge on these people.
"Shouldn’t you go with Cane and alpha Cezi?"
"Nah, their conversation will be a boring one about strategy, I need a break too!"
