Chapter 916: I STOP INCLUDING YOU INTO MY CALCULATION LONG AGO
"Luna, we are under attack, the warrior of the Golden Light pack attacked us!" Eron said hastily, he apologized to interrupt their discussion, but they needed to leave right away.
"Their warriors?" Iris narrowed her eyes.
"Yes, they got us by a surprise attack!" Eron explained hastily. "Right now, our warrior tried to hold them back!"
However, Iris didn’t look panic at all, if anything, she looked very calm. "I see."
Iris was not sure about a strategy in war and all, but based on what Cane taught her, a surprise attack usually launched when the opponent thought they were not ready and it would be easy to break their formation. Their goal was to not allow them to have time to make a strategy and gather power.
Iris walked out of the tent with Cedric and Zale, who looked worry on her behalf, but suddenly she laughed mirthfully when in the distance she saw Lil Thing rushed toward her.
"Ah! Lil Thing! It comes in time!" Zale exclaimed. "Come on, Luna, hop on!"
Iris stretched out both of her hands, while the white bear nuzzled her cheek. "Are you fetching me?" Lu gave Na the ability to control monster, could it be Lil Thing fell into a monster category? That’s why it attached to her.
"Hurry, Luna, we need to leave to a safe place!" Dyne urged her to get on Lil Thing’s back.
In the distance, Iris could see Blue Moon pack warrior, who stood guard at the outer campsite fought the Golden Light pack’s warrior first. If it was the Blue Moon pack, it meant, Redmond was among them.
"Be careful, luna," Cedric said. He helped her to get on Lil Thing back and once she was settled, the rest of them immediately shifted to their beasts in order to protect her back to the safe place, including Zale, while Cedric was ready to run with them. Obviously, he wouldn’t be able to keep his pace with them.
Because they were in the open area, Cedric had his hoodie covered his face.
However, to everyone surprise, instead of going to the safe place, Iris took Lil Thing to the heart of the fight.
Of course, the six beasts tried to stop this bear, but this lazy bear, who usually didn’t even want to move its butt, ran very fast. By the meaning of ’very fast’ was; this sleepy bear managed to outrun all the shifters, leaving them to eat its dust.
"Have you only been storing energy all this time and not moving at all to be able to move this fast?" Iris scratched the back of Lil Thing’s single ear. She looked comfortable to sit on its back. Its fluffy fur gave her a strong grip and she found the right spot to clamp her legs to steady herself on its back.
Iris had to admit it, it was slightly more comfortable to sit on Lil Thing’s back than Cane’s beast or lycan form, but of course, she would never breath a word about it.
The closer she got, the more she could see how was the real fight between shifters. It was vicious, brutal and feral.
"Luna, stop!" Joel, who saw her looked mortified when she went straight to the fighting scene, the young warrior shifted and followed her, so did a few warriors, they couldn’t grasp the reason why their luna was here.
However, Iris didn’t listen to them and Lil Thing only stopped when they were so close with the battle. Still, it was dangerous for Iris to be here.
And once they stopped, Iris swept her eyes at the Golden Light warriors. They were indeed born to fight, since all the royal guards mostly came from this pack. Their training was brutal and they started their training as soon as possible, which meant, children were forced to fight.
Iris closed her eyes.
"Luna, you need to leave!" Zephyr managed to catch up first, but before he could persuade further, all the beasts from the Golden Light pack writhed in pain. They were forced to shift into their human form helplessly and in a second, the fight stopped.
They must forget about how their luna could deal with shifter with only a glance of her eyes. There was no vicious feeling from Iris. She didn’t intend to kill them too, thus it couldn’t be counted as her heart turned dark.
Her intention was only to save her people. Blue Moon pack just pledged their loyalty to her not so long ago, which meant, they were her people now and she didn’t want her people to get hurt.
Blue Moon pack warriors shifted into their human form as well, their jaw dropped when they saw what happened, but when they caught a sight of the luna, sitting on the back of the white bear, they could understand what their opponent were going through. They grimaced because they felt the same pain not so long ago.
Even though the pain didn’t reach the point, where they were forced to shift back, but sure enough they didn’t want to experience that.
As if on cue, all the Blue Moon pack warriors fell into an uproar as they roared their luna’s name and swiftly, they fed their enemy the Rottingbane leaves.
They were not stupid enough not to know alpha Cane intention to put them close to the Golden Light pack, their position let them to be the first target to be slaughtered if they were attack suddenly. Just like what happened now, they bought time while the other pack warriors prepared themselves.
Iris didn’t have the obligation to help them, since they knew, they had never treated her well. She was more Howling Wolf pack than she was Blue Moon pack. She could choose to leave for the safe place and not get involved, but she didn’t.
The luna came here and prevented them to meet their doom. If she didn’t do this, the Blue Moon pack warrior might survive, but their casualties would be massive.
Redmond was among them, he stared at the woman on the white bear’s back with a smile on his lips. Now he could feel relieved because he knew that she cared for this pack.
However, the uproar died down very fast when the alpha entered the scene. Even Lil Thing, who raised its head proudly, as if happy with the euphoria around it, lowered its head.
"Cane..." Iris smiled at her mate sheepishly.
And with only one angry look from the alpha, Lil Thing lowered its body carefully to get Iris down from its back.
Iris immediately approached Cane, she could feel anger rolled off his body and the tension was almost the same like when they were under attack from the Golden Light pack.
"Cane, I am fine," Iris said in small voice, trying to stop him from glaring down at Lil Thing, who right now covered its eyes with its paw, as if it could hide from the alpha’s rage. "Cane, really, I am fine."
Only then he shifted his attention toward his mate. "Call Grace," he said coldly and five warriors scampered to get this job done, only to get away from their alpha’s wrath. This was very terrifying!
Without saying another word, Cane picked Iris’s body up and carried her in his arms. He shut her attempt to explain herself and tell her to be quiet.
In the end, Iris hugged him and prayed he wouldn’t be this mad when Grace told him that she was fine. She wouldn’t risk their babies no matter what, unless she was very sure and she was very certain that she could protect herself from the shifters. If they were not shifter, she wouldn’t get involved, but they were all shifters...
"The luna is fine, alpha, you don’t need to worry," Grace said after she checked on Iris. "Both babies and the mother are in the best condition."
Iris didn’t dare to say; I told you so.
And after Cane asked for another round of thorough check and everything was well, he asked the healer to leave the tent.
Once it was only the two of them, he pushed her down to the bed and trap her body between his arms.
"Do you realize how dangerous it was?" Cane asked, he was almost growling.
"I know, Cane. But, I can assure you I can handle it. They are shifters," Iris explained to him how she wouldn’t have done that if it was not shifters. "Cane I am sorry if you were worried, but you know that I will never risk our babies."
She knew how reckless her action was in Cane’s eyes, but above that, she knew her capability. She was well aware what she could and couldn’t do with her power.
Cane’s whole body trembled, as he closed his eyes and Iris waited for him to calm down and when he finally opened his eyes, Iris was rewarded with a kiss on her forehead.
"I spent days to concoct a plan of how to deal with Golden Light pack, but you did it in a few minutes," Cane said. His voice was a mix of worry and helpless.
"You should have let me get involved in your plan." Iris was relief because Cane didn’t go ballistic with her. "You should have counted me in your calculation."
Knowing her ability, it was no question that she could deal with them more effectively.
"I stop including you into my calculation long ago." Cane kissed the tip of her nose, but then his voice became stern. "Never do it again."
