Chapter 913: TWO MONTHS AND CANE’S WICKED PLAN
Abby was still crying and Cedric was trying to comfort her, stopped her from hurting herself, because she was too emotional.
But at the same time, Iris realized how vicious Rei was. Her heart was beating so fast because of her lack of knowledge about Lou’s condition.
Today was the eighth day since Lou fought Rei that put him into this state, but the birthmark slowly vanished. It was not like the whole mark started to fade away, no. The mark started to disappear inch by inch, as if this black thing that infected him and ran in his blood was the cause of it.
Iris gritted her teeth. In this rate, the birthmark would vanish within two to three months and no one would notice that, since Amee or Hanna, who used to clean him up didn’t understand with the meaning behind the birthmark.
From their eyes, it must be only a unique tattoo, since it was the color of black now.
And what if it vanished? What happened to Lou? What happened to her? Because the one who had it, supposed to be her true protector, right? If it vanished, what happened then?
"Amee, you can leave," Iris said. She was still thinking of what might happen.
"Luna?" Amee looked worried with the expression she made. "What happened, luna?"
"Please, leave." Iris’s eyes still fixed on Lou’s birthmark. "Call Grace. I want her to be here right away."
Currently, Grace was with the other healers from this pack and magic users from the Holy Kingdom, they were taking care of the merchants, who were injured during their confinement. Some of them died, some of them were in critical condition, but thankfully, most of them were fine.
And when Grace arrived, Abby was already calm down, Cedric stayed by her side the whole time, she didn’t say anything, but she clung onto the knight, as if she was afraid, he would disappear again. Abby looked so desperate.
"Grace, can you tell me what happened now?" Iris stood up and let Grace to sit in her place. "Check him thoroughly and tell me if there is something different, even if it’s only your assumption, just tell me."
Grace didn’t understand what Iris meant by that, but she did what she was told and there was indeed slightly differences from her last diagnose.
"His heartbeat slowed down and his blood became a little bit thicker than usual." Grace fished out a small needle from her pocket and poke the tip of Lou’s finger, she pressed down to get a drop of his blood to make sure with her statement, since it was very subtle, until she thought she was only imagining it.
But after she checked, she was right. Lou’s blood became a little bit thicker. If this continued, it would be fatal for the merchant.
"How do you know about it, luna?" Grace was sure her healing ability was not this advance yet.
Iris was not sure how she knew about it. "I don’t know." She shook her head. "I just knew it." Just like how she knew how to heal a certain things and how she could use the black wisp that originally belonged to the lycan or how she summoned the Shylp, everything came to her natural. There was no method, neither she used her power methodically. It just happened, as if she had known about it for her whole life.
However, knowing she had Na’s life essence along with her memories, it did make sense.
"How long?" Iris gulped down. "How long it became fatal if his condition continued like this?"
Lou would have guffawed and danced in happiness to see the concern and worry in Iris’s eyes for him, unfortunately, he was not even conscious to witness it.
"A month or two," Grace replied and this was the same period of time that Iris guessed, the birthmark on Lou’s back would disappear as well.
Iris gritted her teeth and turned around to talk with Abby. She understood Abby and Cedric were too occupied right now and she was not in the right mind to have this discussion, but Iris needed Abby to know about Lou’s condition.
Thankfully, she was already calmed down and was actually staring at her with curious look in her eyes.
"Abby, I need you to come here and check this," Iris said, she then took Abby with her to the inner room, where Lou was still laying unconsciously. Cedric followed behind them.
Iris then explained everything and how fatal his condition would be if this kept continuing. She also explained about the birthmark.
"You are indeed the Serafim," she murmured to herself, talking to no one in particular.
"Do you know something about this?" Iris asked Abby again, because she was very quiet, as she checked on Lou. Her eyes were puffy and there was still the trace of tears on her cheeks, but right now she was deep in thought.
"This is poison." Abby finally concluded. When it happened, she and Iris tried to purify the curses and black magic from Lou’s body, but after that moment Abby had never met Lou again, neither she knew how she was. Only now she saw him. "There is this poisonous plant in our continent, we call this as Heartthrob leaf, because the leaves are really throbbing. While the leaf is poisonous, the root is very nutritious and it can be used as the antidote for the poison."
"Where can I get that?"
"I don’t think you can get it here. You can only find the plant in Andelus Continent during winter."
It was understandable that Grace didn’t really know about this plant, because even for the people in the Andelus continent, this plant was very rare. It was a seasonal plant, which you could only find during winter. Its root gave nutrition for the animal before they went to hibernation.
"But, usually, the poisoner will always carry the antidote," Abby added and all of them knew what it meant.
They went back into the circle, which left Iris with the only solution; if she wanted to save Lou’s life, she was going to meet with Rei and ask for it.
Heaven knew what he would ask her in return and how the conversation would go.
Later that night, Iris told Cane about it and also her conversation with the bald and blind man. Cane remembered him, since he was the one, who gave the invisible tattoo to him in order to enter the Black Market.
"What do you think? What should I do?" Iris snuggled against his chest, her head was throbbing painfully, while Cane caressed her back in soothing motion.
"Two months," Cane contemplated. Lou would hold on until two months... "Let’s make a bet," he said.
"Hm?" Iris lifted her head and looked at Cane. "What do you mean?"
"You won’t go to look for Rei, but let him come to beg you instead," Cane said.
Iris thought about his words seriously, but she still couldn’t get it. "I don’t understand."
"Two months. Let him wait for two months."
Iris widened her eyes when she finally got a grasp of what Cane was going to do. "No. You are not going to bet on Lou’s life, right?" But, the look on Cane’s face told her she was right. "No way. Please, don’t do this."
Rei was crazy enough to go through with his words and now he was still kneeling on the floor, but Cane wanted to push him to the edge and actually let him kneeling down for two months?! Risk Lou’s life to the very end?
Iris couldn’t tell, who was crazier between the two.
"Two months is only the assumption, Lou can be in fatal condition within a month or less." Iris was not going to risk Lou’s life. She also told him about the birthmark that started to disappear.
"Iris, you don’t think I will sit back and wait until he folded, right?"
Iris became even more nervous. "What did you plan?" she narrowed her eyes.
Cane beckoned her to come closer to him. There was no one there in their bedroom, aside from the two of them, there was no need for him to be secretive, but Iris still gave him her ear and let him whispered.
In the end of it, Cane nibbled on her earlobe, which made her squirmed.
"Cane!" Iris pushed him away from her ear, but she looked less anxious after hearing what he was going to do.
"Do you think, it will work?"
"Let’s see."
Iris snuggled again against his chest. She hoped everything would work smoothly.
"How are the little lights?" Cane asked, this became his favorite question to end their heavy conversation.
Iris smiled. "They are the size of my thumbs. No, they are bigger than my thumb now." Iris nudged one of the lights that rested on Cane’s shoulder. "I think one of the babies too lazy to move around. Their lights became brighter."
Cane nodded. He looked around, as if he could catch a glimpse of the lights Iris was talking about, sadly, he couldn’t, but his mate was generous enough to tell him in detail.
The next day, there was nothing much that happened, they went about with their routine, but the pressure from Elder Xarex for Iris to meet with Rei became even crazier, he made a fuss near her and Cane’s bedroom, while Elder Rose tried to meet with Abby.
But, ten days later when they were about to move to Golden Light pack, there was this big news.
