The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 910: DO YOU THINK YOU ARE BETTER THAN ME?

Chapter 910: DO YOU THINK YOU ARE BETTER THAN ME?

"He is crazy..." Ethan clicked his tongue when he saw Rei and the other three people were still kneeling down on the floor, they didn’t move an inch from where Iris left them the previous night. "What they wanted to prove?"

"Dramatic," Redmond said, he only glanced at them nonchalantly. It was good for them to stay there. At the very least, there was one good thing about Rei’s quality, he kept his word and he wouldn’t stand up until Iris said so.

Ethan shrugged his shoulders and continued to walk with Redmond, they didn’t have time to think about Rei, because Cane almost killed them with a bunch of tasks.

Right now, Cane wanted them to list all the people from the Black Market, categorized them based on their kind. The merchant, magic users, the shifters, the knights and many more.

"Why that woman didn’t kill them? It will give us less work," Redmond complained after three hours dealt with a lot of people and talked too much to question them. He didn’t use to work with word.

Redmond worked this with Ethan and Aliana, also another five warriors. While it was a hell for Redmond, Ethan and Aliana seemed to enjoy it. They didn’t have much time together because of their own busy task, thus they were more than welcome to this assignment, since they would spend hours together.

And even when the sun down, they still had a lot of people that had not been on the list. Seemingly this task would continue for another three to four days.

Some merchant wanted to leave for their continent, but some of them wanted to stay and help Cane to take revenge on Kellan and Alan.

Cane didn’t pressure them to join his case, but he relied on their nature to hold a grudge and it was proven more effective and at the same time, with the way Cane treated them, the alpha and the merchant were on a good term.

As a way to show their gratitude, those merchants wrote letter to their men to send more supply, which in this case was a great help to relieve the famine in some places.

"There you are!" Ethan exclaimed, as he approached Redmond and Jace. Currently, they were inside a tavern, enjoying their cold drink after a long and tiring day. "You drink without me! I don’t know that the two of you became close?" he furrowed his brows and sat between Redmond and Jace.

"Don’t be ridiculous," Redmond growled. "I am not close with him." They only happened to be together.

"Have you talked with the alpha about that matter?" Jace asked Ethan and the gamma immediately knew what matter he was talking about.

"Yes, but Cane said it would be better to wait. He still wanted to observe her, whether or not she would fold. From the look of it, he doesn’t trust her at all." Ethan ordered his drink.

They were talking about Cedric’s request to meet with Abby, but Cane still didn’t allow that. He still wanted to be sure if Abby really had burned the bridge between her and the people from the Holy Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Rei and the other three men with him, including Elder Dandolf were still kneeling even when the next day came, which meant, they were in the same position for almost two days by now.

"Rei, are you sure this is the right thing to do?" Elder Dandolf couldn’t feel his legs anymore, he was about to give up. Without food and water, neither proper rest, he felt like he was going to die.

"She will fold," Rei replied, there was no trace of fatigue in his voice, as if he could do this for the next few days.

"I am not sure, she has never come to see us."

"It doesn’t mean she didn’t know." Rei was betting on Iris’s soft nature. "But, even if this didn’t work. She will come to seek for me eventually."

With that, they continued to stay like that for another two days. Thankfully, Elder Xarex came and ordered someone to feed them, which gave them some strength to continue because the shifters side didn’t give a shit about them.

On the other hand, Because Grace was proven innocent, the matter with Abby was a close case and right now, she was paying her attention on healing Lou. The merchant was still unconscious.

"How is he?" Iris asked Grace, she visited Lou everyday and stayed there for hours to figure out how to help him.

Iris was sure she had purified all the black magic that was inflicted by Rei, she even absorbed a little bit of black magic from him that couldn’t be purified, where she saw a glimpse of his memories, where a woman in red robes was being burned alive. That must be his core memory, because that was the first thing that Iris saw.

"I am sorry, luna," Grace apologized because she couldn’t be any of help. "I have tried everything, but he didn’t wake up. My guess is... this must be poison, but this poison does not come from our continent. I am not familiar with this."

Using black magic and poison at the same time, if the poison didn’t come from this continent, it did make sense. Iris’s healing ability didn’t work too, probably because she was still figuring out this aspect of her power and poison was a complicated matter compared to healing a broken leg or injuries.

But then, what kind of person who carried poison with them all the time? Iris touched her stomach instinctively. She glanced at her little lights. They were the size of her thumbs now. One of them was very active, while the other seemingly too lazy to move.

"This is the fifth day, luna," Grace reminded Iris that Rei and the other were still kneeling on the floor.

"Are they still alive?" Iris was aware, because Elder Xarex and Elder Rose kept fussing about this to Cane, but the alpha only said; they could stand up if they wanted.

The problem was; Rei wouldn’t stand up if Iris didn’t say so and Cane didn’t allow the elders to meet with Iris.

"Yes, Elder Xarex kept persuading Rei to stop and feed them." Or else, they would have died by now.

Iris nodded. She was surprised by how determined Rei was. He really changed his tune and attitude. Instead of taking Iris with him quietly like what Cane and she expected he would do, his action was loud to make it public that Iris belonged to the Holy Kingdom.

"Luna Iris," Grace called her name carefully. "I think if we want to heal sir Lou, the only person, who knew how to must be him."

Iris was aware of that too, but she still refused to ask. She wanted to prolong their suffering. Would this make her a bad person?

"I know," Iris said in small voice.

For that, she went out of the room and asked Zephyr about Cane’s whereabout. She wanted to discuss this with her mate and couldn’t wait until night.

"The alpha is still with the merchant, luna," Zephyr replied and from the corner, Iris could see Lil Thing came approaching them.

The bear used to wander the area, but very often would come to find Iris, asking a few scratches behind its back before it left again.

"I want to see him," Iris said. She had never seen the merchant and the people from the Black Market ever since they arrived.

Zephyr showed the way and the other four warriors followed. Kian glanced at the close door, his expression was unreadable.

While Iris was trying to figure out how to heal Lou without getting Rei’s involvement, Abby became a shell of herself and they still didn’t know where Liam was.

She spent her time inside her bedroom, staring at the wall, deep in her own thought. Elder Rose would come occasionally to see her, but most of the time, she would talk so harshly, in which Abby chose to tune her off.

Just like right now.

"You really ruin your life," Elder Rose said through her gritted teeth. "And for what? For that baby? How will you raise that baby? Rei might not interest in your baby anymore, but what are you now when your title stripped off of you?"

And there were many more hurtful words that Elder Rose hurled toward Abby.

"You are really a disappointment. You were the disappointment when you were born and you are the disappointment even now."

Abby flinched. It seemed the word finally got to her, she tilted her head and looked at Elder Rose right in the eyes for the first time.

"Do you ever... love me?" Abby asked, her voice was very weak, it mixed with fatigue. She looked very tired, as if she just returned from a long journey, but then it was still not the end of it. "Have you ever thought about me as your daughter ever since I was born? Why do you hate me so much? What did I do wrong in your eyes aside from being alive?"

Abby stood up, she walked closer toward Elder Rose, who was still looking for the right word to answer her, but Abby didn’t allow her to speak. She had talked enough.

"I know about your second baby," Abby said. "I read your record."

All color drained from Elder Rose’s face when she heard that.

"You had an affair with your own protector and became pregnant. Do you think you are better than me?"
