Chapter 896: CANE WAS WORRIED

Chapter 896: CANE WAS WORRIED

Pax immediately reported this matter to Cane, once he saw the luna went back to the campsite on Lil Thing’s back along with her warriors and the merchant.

Cane didn’t show any sign that he received an important report when he left the strategy room, but Rei could tell it was something urgent that needed his attention, or else, he wouldn’t have left in the middle of their heated conversation without making a snarky remark to turn the table around.

And there was only one thing that could make the alpha like that...

"You can continue to discuss what we need to do going forward." Rei let Elder Xarex to lead the meeting, as he was ready to leave, but Jace stopped him.

"We need your input about this. After all, you are the one, who have been leading the plan. It will be more convenience if you were here," Jace said, trying to stop him from going, because he knew where he would go.

"You can do it without me, after all, I have given so much input, don’t you think that you need to contribute more? Don’t let them look down on the shifter because they could only follow order without their alpha," Rei replied calmly, but Jace tempted to claw his face when he heard that.

It was not that Cane couldn’t come up with the idea, but knowing his alpha, he must have been observing his opponent before he decided what he was going to do.

"Sometime, show some contributions will be nice," Rei said wisely, he patted Jace’s shoulder and then left before the beta could come up with something to retort. He was not really good with word. Ethan or Lou should be here instead to face such confrontation.

And now, the beta was left with the three elders and Serafim Abby.

Meanwhile, at the same time, Cane rushed toward the campsite, where he found his mate was a little bit further from their original location. She was surrounded with her warriors and Lou, there was Aliana and Zale too there.

Cane said nothing, as he shifted back into his human form and marched toward his mate, his expression was hard to read, his eyes had turned a few shades darker.

He had warned them to go straight to the pack house, but Pax reported to him that Iris had gone back to the campsite for the reason unknown, of course, this gave the alpha a little bit anxiety.

"Alpha."

All of them greeted him in unison, looked surprised to find the alpha was here, but then they looked scared because they knew they had done something wrong. They shouldn’t have let their luna to be here.

However, Cane didn’t heed their greeting, his focus was on his mate only.

"Cane?" Iris turned around and he saw blood in her hands, which made him hastened his pace and grabbed them to take a closer look. "Don’t worry, this is not my blood," Iris said, immediately understood his worry and then explained the situation.

Only after Cane was convinced Iris was not hurt at all and the blood was not hers, he finally relax a bit and shifted his focus on Cedric’s body. Apparently, Grace was also there. Cane didn’t notice her before because he felt his blood ran cold with the sight of the blood in Iris’s hands.

"Grace and I managed to preserve his life, but I am not sure what we are going to do now." Iris grimaced to see Cedric breathing weakly. "Nor do I know, who had done that to him."

Cane had his own guess and it was not really difficult to deduct the culprit, but the motive behind it was something he couldn’t understand yet.

"Stay here," Cane said to Iris and then approached Cedric to take a closer look at his wound on his neck. Grace stopped herself from bandaging his wound and let the alpha to see. "The wound was from dagger," Cane stated. "This is not our people."

"If that’s not your people, it meant, they are Holy Kingdom’s?" Lou crouched down next to Cane.

"Bring him to your room by using a portal. Make sure no one knew about this."

"I don’t want to sleep with half dead person!" Lou protested, but when Iris asked the same thing, he could only bite his tongue. "I do it because of you, okay?"

All of them there wondered how could the alpha stand Lou when he was being very obvious with his mate.

"Let’s go back," Cane said. He grabbed Iris’s hand and then took her to the carriage Pax had brought with him.

Inside the carriage, Cane didn’t say anything, but he started to clean up the blood from her hand and the blood that stained her dress.

From the look of it, Iris could tell that Cane was rather upset.

"Are you angry with me?" Iris asked, while Cane kept wiping her hands with wet towel.

"I am not angry with you. I am worried." It was silly, but Cane felt like he was having a heart attack when he saw blood on her. He had been very tensed lately and with the arrival of Rei, it didn’t make his condition any good.

"I am sorry," Iris said in small voice.

Cane sighed and kissed her cleaned hands. "You don’t have to, but next time, I will appreciate it if you didn’t do it." Cane then added, his voice was deep and serious. "I don’t care what happened with him and you don’t have any obligation to help him."

Cane was being cruel right now, but Iris understood why he was like this, and also, this was not the right time to have an argument over this matter, thus she didn’t argue with him, instead she changed the subject after she saw Cane was a little bit calm down.

"Do you know who had attacked Cedric and why?"

Warriors would attack you with their claw, they didn’t need dagger to begin with in a fight, so did magic user, they were not skill enough to use weapon, especially to be able to win against a battle hardened knights like Cedric.

There was no sign of struggling, which meant this person was someone Cedric knew very well that he allowed this person to come so close to him and attack him head on.

Cedric was a knight after all, there was no way he would put his guard down even in the presence of the people he was familiar with and allowed him not be able to defend himself against a direct attack.

Unless... that person was very fast.

"Rei?" Iris guessed it. "But, why?"

Cane gave some thought and reminded Iris about the misunderstanding of the father of Abby’s baby and the punishment for it.

"Do you think Rei had done it?"

"Most likely."

The elders would have killed him right away if it were them, no need to wait for this long.

However, right now there was another matter that Cane wanted to know. "How can you see his spirit when he is not a shifter?" Iris mentioned of how she saw Cedric’s spirit earlier. "He has not even dead yet."
