Chapter 887: REI’S INTENTION
Chapter 887: REI’S INTENTION
"You are not in the position to make a demand from me, Abby," Iris said clearly. "I don’t see you as my enemy, but I will put people that I cared the most first. So, let’s hear what can you offer to me before I make a decision and put my people in danger, or you can ask for someone else’s help."
"I need a guarantee that you will protect us." Abby didn’t budge, but so did Iris.
"I can’t give you the guarantee that you wanted." Iris’s voice was steady, she looked like she knew what she was doing right now and she refused to make a promise for anything.
This was very subtle, but the two men in this tent could understand the message behind it. Iris gently said that a beggar couldn’t choose.
"But, I know how it felt to lose someone the precious to you and I don’t wish that kind of pain upon someone else." Iris didn’t try to convince Abby, but she chose to sympathize with her by using her painful experience. The luna didn’t reach her by logic, but she touched her emotion.
In the end, Abby knew he didn’t have any other option and this was already very generous of Iris giving to the history between them. The luna could have turned her back and leave her, after all, this issue had nothing to do with her.
This was only Abby’s selfishness and her recklessness that brought her to this predicament and endanger Liam and Cedric’s lives.
"Rei is... a spirit." Abby bit her lip, it was clear to see it was hard for her to divulge this top secret of the Holy Kingdom. Only a handful of people, who knew about this, including her because she was the Serafim. This knowledge was being passed down from the Serafim to the next one. "He is a holy spirit."
But, in Abby’s case, she learned this secret information from Elder Xarex. Because Elder Rose kept postponing the lesson and she openly looked reluctant to teach her about it.
"Why? Why she is reluctant." Lou frowned. "If that’s the norm, there is no way for her to break the rule."
Cane’s decision was right to allow the merchant to be here in this discussion, because both Iris and Cane didn’t need to ask anything, since Lou would voice out the question for them.
"I don’t know. I am not sure about the reason, but when Elder Xarex learned about it, he was very angry and have a long meeting with Elder Rose and after that, the next day it was him, who taught me about this secret."
"And the secret is; this Rei is a spirit? A holy one? Holy my ass, he reeks of black magic." Lou scoffed, he didn’t even try to hide his disdain and mockery.
But then, the three of them immediately noticed that Abby didn’t seem to be surprised when she heard what Lou said, she didn’t even try to refute that.
And when Lou asked, she indeed confirmed his statement.
"Yes, he is using black magic to preserve his life for over five hundred years. He was the first Serafim’s protector and he always believed the first Serafim will come back to life and he is still here to protect her." Lilac then looked at Iris. "But, people always thought that was a metaphor. They thought, what he meant was the Serafim, yet he had never taken any interest in the Serafim. Because of what he believed, his faction is called as the pure faction."
"I don’t understand, if people knew he is using black magic, especially inside the Holy Kingdom, why didn’t they get rid of him?" Lou crossed his arms in front of his chest, he was very invested in this story.
Abby pressed her lips, her first instinct was to not tell them anything, but then she had to remind herself over and over again the reason why she was here. "Because he is the founder of the Holy Kingdom. He is the one, who had created the system in the Holy Kingdom and taught our magic users of how to use their magic efficiently. He is the history of the Holy Kingdom itself."
People might know about the elders and the Serafim, but the true ruler was Rei. He controlled everything from the dark, even though he and Elder Xarex was not in a really good term, but Elder Xarex couldn’t completely dismiss him.
"Wah... really, your place is really full of a hypocrite." Lou counted it with his fingers. "People who claimed they hated black magic, but actually sheltered one. The Holy Kingdom that is well known by people for getting rid of any traces of black magic and black magic users, is actually teaching black magic. Elders, who hated a lycan so much because it’s a cursed creature, but actually was being controlled by a cursed creature too. A mother, who doesn’t want her daughter because she is a Serafim and a Serafim, who breached the rule and got pregnant by man, who supposed not to be her partner." Lou blinked his eyes innocently when Abby glared viciously at him. "Did I miss something here?"
"Every place has their own secret." Abby looked defensive. She still saw the three of them as an outsider and it was her responsibility to stand up for the Holy Kingdom’s name. "This kingdom is not pure either. The way shifters live and how this kingdom runs is not noble too, it is not something that you would be proud of."
Lou laughed his head off, which made Iris kicked his leg again.
"I am sorry, I am sorry," Lou said, wiping his tears, as he tried to stop laughing. "Everyone in this realm knows how shitty this kingdom is, especially with their way with women and how they emphasized their power to the minor. Treachery, slavery, rapes, you named it and you will find them all here." Lou grinned. "But, at the very least, people knew that and no one will call themselves as ’holy’."
Abby felt humiliated. It was her instinct to defend the Holy Kingdom.
"What Rei wanted with the first Serafim?" Cane finally asked because Lou was having fun to ridicule Abby when it was not their main discussion.
Abby gave Lou one last glare before she focused on Cane’s question. "He always said that he will serve the first Serafim and protected her. Aside from all the scriptures that he wrote about Decratic’s resurrection, he said the first Serafim would be the one, who killed Decratic."
"The scriptures were written by him?" Iris asked with a surprise.
"Yes. All the scriptures in the Holy Kingdom were written by him. He also wrote some of black magic too."
"What he meant by serving the first Serafim?" Cane narrowed his eyes.
"I think he is going to continue his duty as the first Serafim’s protector. He is not a threat for you and I think he will be able to help." Abby fiddled with her fingers, she was being restless.
Despite what Abby said, Iris and Cane didn’t feel that way.
"What are you hiding? There is something that you didn’t tell us, right?"
