The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 877: A HUGE RELIEF
Chapter 877: A HUGE RELIEF
Cane had been ’torturing’ Lou to get these two pieces of water magic stone and even though this was less than he expected, it was still useful to nurse Iris’s health.
To get these two water magic stones Lou had exhausted all of his resources among the merchant, since after the Black Market was destroyed, the demand for this type of magic stone was very high.
’I should have gathered all water magic stone from my mine in the Black Market before they destroyed it!’ Lou had been complaining about that.
However, his protest was silenced with one reply from Cane.
’You can’t gather all the stones, you don’t know where to look for it.’
That was right. Only Iris, who could find magic stone as if she saw it and simply picked it up from the rock.
She was special, she would always be exceptional...
"Don’t leave me..." Iris whimpered, she still looked very sick, even though her fever had gone down.
"I will not." Cane kissed her knuckles. "I am sorry for leaving you when you needed me the most. I am sorry, I hurt you again."
Iris teared up. She struggled to push herself off the bed, so she could hug him. There was nothing else she wanted right now, aside from being close to him, so she would be certain that he was not going to leave her.
Cane knew what she needed. He needed this too.
Gently, he helped her to sit down and hug her closely. Careful enough not to put so much pressure on her, since he felt like he wanted to hold her as tight as he could, tied her with him.
"I am sorry, Cane." Iris started to cry again. "I didn’t mean to hide this from you. I didn’t mean to cause you trouble. I know that this is not the right time for this pregnancy. I know what you feel about this and I am sorry. I didn’t mean to deceive you. I only thought I don’t want to disappoint you if I failed. I can’t see you in pain, but I think I give you more pain now and I am sorry."
"Ssh..." Cane rocked her body gently, as he cradled her in his arms. "I am the one, who is sorry, Iris. I give you nothing, but pain."
Iris shook her head. "No. You have every right to be angry with me."
"I shouldn’t have left you." Cane kissed her head. He missed her scent, he missed her voice. He missed everything about her.
Iris then lifted her head to look at him, but before she could say anything, Cane kissed her. His lips sealed any apology that she wanted to say. He didn’t want to hear that. The thought of her feeling bad for what she had done didn’t sit well with him.
Cane’s kiss was very tender, as if he was afraid he would hurt her by accident. His mate was sick and pregnant and that was the recipe for a nightmare.
"So, it’s twins?" Cane backed away when Iris was breathless.
Iris’s eyes lit up, those blue eyes looked so beautiful, just like her soul. "Yes." This was the first time Cane brought up about their babies and to know he finally accepted them was a huge relief to her heart. He took interest to their babies.
Cane nodded, there was this small smile curled on the corner of his lips, as his gaze traced down to her stomach. "You can see their wolf spirit?"
Iris became excited when she told him about what she saw. She looked weak and tired a moment ago, but when she talked about the babies, she seemed to have all the energy in the world to keep talking for hours.
At first, when she saw the two lights she didn’t realize it, but then she remembered about Renee, Avid’s mate. She saw this little light too when she noticed it as her baby’s wolf spirit. It was a little bit silly how it didn’t click with her immediately that was the case.
"And now, they are the size of my thumb!" Iris said excitedly. "I wish you can see them, they are very cute!"
"Of course, they are." Cane kissed both of Iris’s cheeks. He felt so light right now, as if there was a huge burden that was lifted from his shoulders the moment he had accepted it, make a room for him to have hope again.
When he stood in this point, Cane felt those days when he struggled alone and hurt his mate in the process looked very foolish.
But still, his fear for the uncertain future was still there.
"I am stronger now." Iris cupped his face between her palms and looked at him in the eyes, as if she could feel what he was thinking. "I will not let anything happened to our babies. We will not let anything happened to them. Please, trust me."
Have faith in your mate. That was what Amee said...
Cane rested his forehead against Iris’s shoulder, as he replied in small voice. "Okay." It’s okay to have hope again, right?
Iris hugged him, feeling very grateful that they could overcome this adversity.
Later that night when the news about Iris has woken up reached the elders, Elder Xarex requested to see her. He and the other elders must be in the dead end to actually ask for a meeting with Iris.
There was no need for a genius to guess what they wanted from her.
"You don’t need to see them." Cane handed warm milk to Iris. They had returned to their tent and Grace would come by every two hours to check on her, as per the alpha’s request.
"I think we need to solve this problem first. Decratic is still weak, this is the right time for us to attack, don’t you think so?"
"Now, you are talking about a strategy," Cane teased her. "I got this. Just drink the milk."
