Chapter 875: SHIELDED LETTER
Chapter 875: SHIELDED LETTER
Iris had this strange dream, she saw Cane came to the carriage. His face looked very sad, it hurt her heart to see him was so crestfallen, as if the whole world had come crushing down on him.
However, he questioned her about how much he had hurt her. Iris even could feel the pain in his voice when he asked that. She didn’t like it when he was in pain, but she was also hurt by his action. In the end, she could only hold onto him.
She wished this dream would last a little bit longer. She really missed him...
"How is she?" Cane asked darkly at Grace, who just finished checking on Iris.
"Her fever has gone down," Grace said with relief.
"What about... the baby." Cane clenched his jaw when he asked this. His eyes looked very sharper and darker.
"The baby is fine," Grace replied. "I think it’s ’babies’, because the luna referred the baby as twins."
Cane didn’t say anything and waved his hand to tell them all to leave the tent. Grace and Hanna immediately left, but Amee stayed for a while. She didn’t say much and only give Cane a hug after that, she too left the tent.
Once it was only the two of them, Cane approached Iris on the bed and sat down silently. His elbows pressed on his thighs, as he had his head between his palms. He closed his eyes.
Cane came into the carriage for the first time after their fight, two days ago, Iris was sleeping, but then she woke up and started crying. She didn’t say anything else aside begging him not to leave her, which crushed his heart to see how devastated she was.
In the end, Cane cradled her to sleep, because she was too emotional and didn’t want to let him go. Only when she had fallen asleep, Cane took her to the tent and laid her down there, but in the morning, Iris caught a fever.
She had not yet been sick for a while, aside from the sickness when they lost the babies, her health had improved significantly, but right now she was sick again, on top of that, she was pregnant.
It had been two days...
"Hey, it’s me!" Lou shouted from outside of the tent. "Whatever you are doing, stop it right now, I am going to enter in ten second!" He started to count backward.
The merchant made a lewd remark because he just returned and heard Iris was inside Cane’s tent, it seemed the two of them had reconciled. And heaven knew what the two of them would be doing if they were left alone. He didn’t want to taint his eyes.
"I am coming!" Lou announced and then he walked inside the tent to see this strange sight. "Oh, I thought you were doing something." He glanced at the sleeping Iris and lowered his voice.
Cane lifted his head. When he thought his life couldn’t be harder, here came this merchant. At this point, he wondered if he brought more benefit or headache.
"What did you get?" Cane stood up and drew a curtain that separate the bed area and the other part of the tent, not allowing Lou to stare at his mate, which pissed the merchant off. "Have you killed him?"
"I told you that he was surrounded by strong magic users. I am flattered that you thought I could barge in and kill him." Lou poured a glass of water for himself and sat down.
"I think too highly of you." Cane referred to the time where Lou was mad enough to swear that he would kill Rei.
Hearing that, Lou clicked his tongue, but he didn’t say anything else and change the topic. "I think you are right, Rei is a black magic user. I investigate about this and found out some people from Chrystal Moon pack had gone missing."
People died every day, thus missing one person or two, wouldn’t be a glaring issue in this continent, especially at time like this.
Cane had expected that much. The fact Rei was still alive after five centuries was still a big question here, not to mention how he used black magic to preserve his life when he was the first Serafim’s protector.
"I can’t believe this! The Holy Kingdom is dirtier than I thought. What they mean by punishing the black magic user when they have been sheltering one?! Their hypocrisy is unbeatable! I feel so ashamed for them!" Lou grumbled.
"What else do you get?" Cane cut off his rambles.
"Nothing much, currently he is moving to Bloody Wolf pack, if he kept his pace, he might reach here within a week." Lou stretched out his body. "He also exchanged letter with elder Dandolf. I happened to get one of his letter. But, damn! He shields the letter with strong magic, I exhausted my energy to open it."
"Elder Dandolf?" He was the lowkey one among the other, but instead of Elder Xarex and Elder Rose, Cane paid close attention to him, since you couldn’t trust this type of person the most. Life taught you that much. "What the letter is about?"
Lou fished out the letter from his pocket and threw it on the table for Cane to see.
"You didn’t send it back again?" Cane narrowed his eyes.
"I have touched the letter with magic and magic left trace, he will know if his letter had been interfered." Lou didn’t seem to care about it.
"Can’t you erase the trace?"
"Too complicated." In another word, Lou didn’t know how, but of course, he wouldn’t admit that. "Missing one letter or two will not be a big of deal, letters can be missing every day."
There was this smirk curled on the corner of Lou’s lips when he watched Cane stretched out his hand to get the letter, but he retracted it immediately, as he watched his finger was burned the moment his skin made a contact with the letter.
Lou burst out laughing. "I told you this letter contain with strong shield! I can read it because I used magic to counter it, but you actually wanted to touch it with barehand?" It had been a while, since he could ridicule Cane and it felt so good!
Cane stared at the merchant with impassive expression. He didn’t say anything and the burning on his finger had subsided.
"Come, don’t frowning, it’s just a joke! I will open it for you if you said; pleaseeee..." Lou cooed. He wouldn’t be this bold if it was Lu instead of Cane, because the lycan surely wouldn’t care much about a letter and just ended his life right there and then for actually ridiculing him like this.
However, Lou had learned his value and Cane wouldn’t do him any harm.
Yet, the merchant miscalculated it. Cane indeed didn’t know much about magic, but he had Lu’s ability, thus he used the black wisp to touch the letter and tear the cover to read it.
The black wisp could neutralize magic, that was why, Lou couldn’t use his magic when he was being tied by it in the past.
"That’s not fair!"
