Chapter 839: THREE SERAFIMS
"Are you, okay?" Cane asked, concern in his voice to see how Iris hobbled, her thighs were numb because he used them as pillow when he slept two hours straight. He didn’t wake up at all during that time and Iris didn’t move her body, scared she would wake him up.
At the first half an hour, Iris was happy to see his sleeping face, but after an hour, she started to feel uncomfortable and when the two hours passed, she felt numb.
And now Iris was sitting on the bed, while Cane massaged her thighs.
"Next time don’t do this," he said in stern voice, reminding her that he didn’t want this to happen again. Iris didn’t answer him, she didn’t want to make a promise that she wouldn’t keep.
Of course, next time she would do it again if by doing that could ensure him to take some rest.
Sensing Iris’s little rebellion, Cane pinched her earlobe. "Don’t do it again," he said more firmly now, still Iris didn’t answer him.
In the end, they were late to be in the meeting with the elders, actually they would start to have discussion after lunch, thus when Cane and Iris arrived, they were halfway eating their meal and the look the four elders gave to them was nasty.
At the long table, each party occupied each side of the table, thus there was no one sitting on the head of the table, but the four elders took a seat in the middle, while the Serafim and her five knights also the head of the knights sat on their left and right side.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the table, between Jace and Ethan, there were two chairs that still empty, which for the alpha and the luna and this made the two of them had to sit down in front of the elders.
Elder Xarex was sitting in front of Cane, while an elderly woman sat next to him.
Next to Jace was Aliana and Grace, while next to Ethan was Lou and Redmond. The five of Iris’s warriors stood in the front door of the dining hall, so did a few of the knights.
The tension was already very thick and this was not the atmosphere that you wanted to have when you stomached your food. Ethan and Lou had put down their cutleries and waited with bored expression, while Redmond ate his food just because he had something to do, while the rest of them ate quietly, but the look on their expression would make you wonder, whether they were eating food or stone instead.
Cane took Iris to sit down on the empty seats, he didn’t apologize for being late and actually Lou and Ethan like this. This must be Cane gentle revenge on how the elders looked down on him when they greeted them in the gates.
’This will be interesting.’ Lou thought about this for himself, this excitement was what kept him stayed and endured the irritation. "Here, eat this, you look tired!" Lou happily put a piece of meat on Iris’s plate.
However, to do so, he had to pass Ethan and Cane, which of course, was not an easy task to do, because the gamma took the meat and ate it before it could reach Iris’s plate.
"Why do you give her meat? Can’t you see? The alpha has taken care of her," Ethan said with innocent expression when Lou looked so livid. He changed his cutleries because the gamma touched it with his mouth when he ate the meat.
Lou glared at Ethan, but he caught Cane’s eyes and realized this was not a condition to bicker with each other, so he harrumphed and clamped his mouth. His red cloak was as red as his annoyance.
Of course, because they were late, the rest of them had to wait until the alpha and the luna finished with their meal and neither Cane nor Iris seemed being in haste to eat quickly.
Xarex narrowed his eyes, he looked very hostile now. He used to people respect him, thus what Cane and Iris did was completely unacceptable.
Meanwhile, Abby was brooding, she didn’t seem like she was in the room, as she stared at her plate, where she only ate half of her food. Beside the Serafim was Cedric, while Liam was sitting at the other side of the elders, the knight didn’t even try to glance at her.
"Finally, you finished with your food. I think I am going to sleep at this point." Xarex didn’t even try to be polite with Cane when he talked with sarcasm.
"If you are very tired, we can talk about this later," Cane replied casually, as he poured water into Iris’s goblet.
Xarex was the symbol of how most of the Holy Kingdom saw shifter, they were always thinking of them as the creature that was not their equal because they were half human, half beast. They were only slightly higher than animal in their eyes.
Most of the warriors were well aware of this resentment and that was why, even though they went into a battle together, they didn’t really connect with each other.
"Should we wait for you to take a nap, or can we move to our discussion?" Cane asked Xarex. He held his anger really well and this elder was clearly not able to handle a provocation. Bit by bit, Cane observed him and studied them.
"I heard about the power that your luna holds," Xarex finally said, he was wise enough to drop his pettiness and decided to move to the important problem. "I want to see it. From the report I received, she held divine power too."
"There is no way, someone aside from a Serafim will have a divine power. There must be something wrong here." An older woman next to Xarex spoke for the first time.
Her hair was still black, but her expression was very stern and there was no kindness in the way she stared at Iris.
She was elder Rose, the previous Serafim.
