Chapter 782: THOSE WHO WERE LEFT BEHIND AND THOSE WHO LEFT
Lou frowned and a few second later it clicked in his mind. So, she forgot about that part as well. It did make sense, because that same day, she lost her baby and he didn’t want to dig too dip into it.
With that the merchant simply waved his hand. "Never mind, it’s not anything important. You can just forget it."
If she didn’t remember it, so it could count, as him was freed from his promise, right?
After that, Iris went to see Redmond and he personally showed his baby to her, while Iris and Sofia were being cordial with each other. They didn’t interact much, but it seemed there was a tacit understanding between them that they would move on from what happened in the past.
On the other hand, Zale thought when Cane wanted to talk to him, he expected the alpha to ask him to protect the luna, kept his eyes on her and made sure she was not alone and always accompanied her.
He expected, he would be given an important task, but then he met with disappointment when the alpha wanted him to show his progress with the stupid stone.
"Really? At time like this?!" Zale wanted to get angry, but he was still scared to act too outrageous in front of the alpha. "Alpha, can’t you give me a real task?!" Zale complained.
"Unless you can suddenly control this attitude and emotion of yours, this will be your task." Cane stared at the young boy. "Or you can go ahead and do whatever you want."
With that was being said, Cane turned around and was about to leave Zale, but he quickly blocked his way and stretched out both of his hands. "Which one?" he asked sullenly. He felt so stupid to play this game with the alpha at critical time like this.
"Here." Cane tapped his left hand and his guess was right, the stone was there. Zale was pissed, but he couldn’t figure out how the alpha could always guess it.
Cane took the stone and then this was his turn to let him guess. He stretched out both of his hands.
Zale tried to sniff both of his hand and guess where the stone was, in the end, he went with his intuition, but his guess was wrong when he chose the left hand.
"I should have chosen the right hand!" Zale said in frustration, but when Cane opened his right hand, the stone was not there too. "That’s not fair, the stone has never been there in the first place."
"I have never said the stone will be in either hands," Cane replied, he fished out the stone from his pocket and handed it to Zale again. "You only focus on what you see, you need to see things in whole." Cane patted his shoulder. "Don’t play in someone else’s game, make your own rule."
Zale blinked his eyes, staring at the stone in his hand. He seemed to grasp what Cane meant with what he said. It was not about the stone to begin with...
The alpha tried to teach him something that he was lacking of, set his priority in the right path, where sacrificing himself for the luna was not a solution like he always thought he would do the first thing if he faced with such situation.
Somehow, in weird way, everything related...
Cane knew Zale was smart, but he was too hotheaded for his own good and he needed someone by Iris’s side, who could voice out their opinion and braved enough to defy him if he thought it was not good for his mate.
Cane had a lot of people, who would drop everything and follow him blindly, thus he didn’t need Zale to be one of them.
That afternoon, when winter almost over, Cane’s group set off first.
After everything was set and they were ready to leave, Cane approached Iris again. He hugged her so tight, while she cried silently on his shoulder. They didn’t say anything, but maybe they didn’t need to, because this silence and the feeling of each other presence was all they needed right now.
Cane kissed her forehead, her cheeks, the tip of her nose, her lips and her palms, when he saw that small dot.
"What is this?" Cane asked and Iris explained. He listened and only nodded at the explanation. As long as it was not a weird thing that Lou put on his mate, he wouldn’t mind another layer of protection for her when he was not around.
"Come back to me, Cane. No matter how, you need to come back to me," Iris said. She paused for a while, because she felt familiar with the words she was saying, as if she had said the same thing before. "Even if you have to use the lycan power, just do it. As long as you are comeback, we will face everything together." Iris meant every word she said, but she got this feeling, as if she was having a déjà vu.
"I will." Cane kissed her forehead and then left first with his group.
The sky was clear, the weather was not so cold, but the silent that engulfed them was louder than the sound of their marching steps toward the battle.
Those people, who were left behind could only watch those brave warriors, knights and magic users left the pack. They didn’t know when they would meet with each other again or what kind of news they would receive in the next few days.
Those, who were left behind could only pray for their safety and wished for the best result. They wanted everything to come to end very soon.
And for those who left, they knew death was right before their eyes and one wrong step could lead them to their death.
Under the clear sky and warm sunlight, everyone tried to be strong, to be brave and keep their spirit high, but needless to say, there was nothing much they could do to predict the end of it...
==============================
"Are you ready, Dexter?" Decratic asked, he patted Dexter’s shoulder, his eyes lit up in the dark, as both of them stood in the mouth of a huge cave, where a pair of red eyes, as red as blood stared back at them. "I will give you this honor to have him."
"Dexter, it will be an honor for you," Zeke said from behind his son, he was thrilled when he learned about what Decratic had planned for Dexter and felt so proud of him.
However, Dexter didn’t say much, he simply stepped into the darkness, where the sound of the deafening roar of the monster shook the entire cave and ground.
From the sound of it alone, you could tell this monster was massive. This was the monster that you didn’t even want to meet even in your dream.
Something very vicious and malicious came from this monster alone, you could feel the presence of it even when you didn’t see the entirety of this living being.
Even the monsters around this Untouched Land felt restless, as they could sense this certain monster became active lately.
If even the monsters were scared of this certain creature, one could imagine the fear that it spread throughout the whole continent, if it really came out of its lair...
"My lord, are you not going to ride it yourself to the battle?" Zeke gathered his courage to ask this question. Of course, he was proud of Dexter to be able to ride the monster first, but then he couldn’t help, but became curious what Decratic would do.
"There is another thing more important than the battle," Decratic replied vaguely and Zeke didn’t dare to ask about it any further. "What about them? When they would arrive?"
Zeke knew immediately what Decratic meant with ’them’. "The word had spread and all the worshipers have gotten our message about how your return, the moment they could sail, they will head here from the east, they will arrive within a month after the winter ended."
The east harbor was in Winter Moon pack, unfortunately its alpha fell into Cane’s hand, but Decratic didn’t mind it at all, because Nolan was not his precious piece, he was only a pawn in his chessboard.
==============================
It took Cane’s group a day and half when they finally arrived. Night had fallen and the sky was dark with the light from the moon was hiding behind the gloomy cloud.
Cane only brought three thousand warriors with him and a thousand knights along with three magic users, including Lou, who stood on his right side and Ethan assumed his position as the gamma on his left side.
The first thing they saw when they had crossed the border of the Riverside pack to the Crystal Moon pack was Jax. He was alpha Nolan’s beta. He looked furious when he heard the alpha was being taken as a hostage and was tortured badly, especially when he heard Cane had killed Lando, the future alpha of their pack.
Therefore, here he was with Xo, the beta of alpha Gallot, leading ten thousand warriors to face Cane. They outnumbered Cane’s force in double and felt very confident to be able to kill them all within less than a day.
"CANE! HAND OVER ALPHA NOLAN!" Jax roared.
However, it was not Cane, who answered that, but Ethan. He beckoned a warrior to bring something and then dropped it to the ground, before he kicked it as hard as he could.
"THERE! YOUR ALPHA!" Ethan shouted.
