Chapter 780: THE DAY BEFORE THE BATTLE
Chapter 780: THE DAY BEFORE THE BATTLE
This was decision Cane had made. He knew what he could take or not. He would rather to shoulder it alone than to see Iris became someone he was barely able to recognize.
If he had to be hurt, so be it. At the very least, he still could find comfort in her smile... oblivion was a bliss and he wanted her to have it when he couldn’t.
"Okay..." Iris lifted her head, she raised her hand and touched his cheek. Cane closed his eyes and tilted his head to kiss her palm. "Is there something else I can help you with?"
She became her former self again, the person that wanted to help Cane with whatever she could, but too afraid to face her own demon.
Therefore, when Cane told her that she didn’t need to remember, somehow, she felt glad. A tiny part of her heart was relief, albeit the nagging feeling still plagued her mind.
If she could, Iris didn’t want to remember about what happened with Kellan. It made her felt disgusted with herself and was helpless. She hated that little girl, who was being assaulted by him...
"Don’t be sad, Iris." Cane opened his eyes and kissed the tip of her nose. "You hurt me so much when I saw you in pain."
Maybe it was the night, maybe it was because they had gone through so much, or maybe he was already so tired and put their guard down for her, he was defenseless, bared his feeling without any scrupulous, where you talked how you were feeling, instead of what you were thinking...
Cane had been very vulnerable with his feeling to Iris, despite everything that happened and how he hid the truth from her.
Maybe because the hidden truth was too massive for him to have the energy to mask his feeling, so he poured his heart out in the open for her to see. He put his heart within her palms and exposed it for her to know, so if one day she learned the truth and she remembered everything, she would know he had done everything he could to protect her even if it costed himself...
He wished, she could understand and was not very sad...
Tonight was the last night before tomorrow, where their farewell could be perpetual.
This night, everyone had their own story to tell, had their own sorrow to bear and a single goodbye that might be lasted forever to share before the inevitable battle.
Some heart and mind, simply couldn’t rest...
The next day, around twenty thousand warrior and knights gathered for the last briefing. They would be separated into four groups, the first group would be led by Cane, the second one would be led by Cedric, the third one would be led by Jace and the last one would be led by Redmond.
The Serafim, Liam and her three personal knights would go with Redmond’s group, because she would be least expected to be in the group of shifters, more so, Redmond’s group was the safest one, since they brought up the rear.
"She is not that pretty," Sofia muttered, she pursed her lips when she learned about that.
Redmond didn’t even hear what she said, as he was holding on his son, his eyes lit up with adoration and was mesmerized by little thing that the baby did, even if he just hiccup or yawn. He would praise him, as if he had saved the world.
"We need to make a lot more like this!" Redmond said, as he laughed to see Rye grabbed his forefinger and bit it, even though he was toothless.
The red hair warriors looked very carefree, he didn’t seem like a person, who was going to lead his own people to a fierce battle that could lead to their own demise.
He was happy enough to spend his time with his firstborn and didn’t have time to weep around and be dramatic and melancholic.
"Did you even hear me?" Sofia grumbled, but she blushed when she heard Redmond’s comment. She was still sore because of last night and was slightly worried because Redmond didn’t have enough rest when he had to be in his best performance for today onward.
"I hear you just fine," Redmond commented, but he didn’t take his eyes off his son. "All women are the same for me."
Hearing that, Sofia was not happy, she scoffed. "I wonder how many women you have slept with when you were away, while you were on your so called ’mission’."
Redmond glanced at Sofia briefly. "I slept with no one," he admitted. "The women I met was either someone, who supposed to be dead or that dark witch, neither of them could turn me on."
Sofia was speechless. She considered herself to be good with her words, but this man always found a way to shut her up. "I think I am different then, I am sure you were really in good mood last night."
After saying that, Sofia wanted to kick herself. What actually was she trying to say?! She only wanted to one up him, but she talked without thinking thoroughly and this sounded so lewd!
Awkwardness engulfed the two of them. It almost like they had this tacit understanding when they woke up in the morning not to talk about what happened at night.
But then, Redmond cleared his throat and spoke nonchalantly, or he intended it to be sounded like that. "Of course, you are different, you are the mother of my son."
However, before Sofia could speak and they have more awkward moment, Ethan had come toward them and they immediately clamped their mouth.
The gamma was not in a good mood, he didn’t have a good night.
"Hi, Rye! Can you tell your father to start moving? People has gathered and he needs to work his ass off if he wanted to see tomorrow and stop being negligence," Ethan talked to the baby instead of Redmond directly, simply because he wanted to piss him off, since he didn’t want to be in a bad mood alone.
"Stay away from my son, you bring bad influence!" Redmond growled.
Ethan raised his brows and crossed his arms in front of his chest, a mischievous smile on the corner of his lips. "Sofia, do you know what he said when the first time he learned you were pregnant?"
Redmond was alerted, he raised his leg, wanting to kick this gamma out of this realm!
"Scram! Bother someone else!" Redmond chased Ethan away, while still carrying his son, who was laughing right now.
"Hey! That’s dangerous!" Sofia followed behind him, chasing after her son, she was afraid the two of them would really start fighting and her son would be in danger.
However, Ethan only laughed and talked garbage about random thing to piss Redmond off, which took him to his group and the other former warrior of Blue Moon pack saw his son for the first time.
Of course, Redmond didn’t miss this opportunity to show off his first born to them.
Sofia stopped chasing after him and then stared at the warriors, who congratulated him. Yes, Redmond was not the alpha of the pack, but the warriors from his pack gave him the utmost respect and because of the bad blood between the two pack, the Blue Moon warriors listened to Redmond more than they did to Ethan or Jace.
"What are you doing there? Come here!" Redmond said, he waved his hand to Sofia to come closer. He then proceeded to introduce her as the mother of his son.
This was the first time for Sofia to be introduced, since she became alpha Gallot’s mistress, aside for providing pleasure for him and eventually gave birth to his child if she stayed long enough there, there would never come a day, where she would be introduced to anyone and feel so happy to be acknowledged.
"Wow! She is beautiful, don’t you want to share, Commander?" One of them joked, this was a normal joke among warriors.
"Touch her and I will eat your heart raw."
After that, none of them dared to joke about it anymore.
"Done, I brought him here," Ethan said to Jace. He was told to bring Redmond to his group by the beta, but not with this method.
Jace could only shake his head. "Childish."
Aliana approached her brother, she chuckled when she heard the way he grumbled. "You can say they are close," she said.
Jace glanced at his sister and took a deep breath, but before he could speak what was in his mind, Aliana had cut him first.
"Save your energy if you wanted to advise me to back down, because I will not," Aliana said. "This is my decision and my decision alone. I am going, whether I am in your group or in the alpha’s, or even with the knights, I am going."
Aliana was with Jace’s group and the gamma and the beta were trying to convince her to go with Redmond, since his group was less dangerous, but the decision had been made by the alpha and Cedric.
"At the very least, you got me, can’t you see how unhappy Ethan is when he knew Koda is within his group?" Aliana chuckled, her mood was very light. Snow piled up on her shoulders and Jace brushed it off.
"He is unhappy because he is worried something bad might happen to you." Jace was not in the mood to joke around with her. "You know that too, Aliana."
