The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 729: IT’S OKAY TO GRIEVE

Chapter 729: IT’S OKAY TO GRIEVE

Cane had been staying with Iris and he turned to his taciturn self, as he kept taking care of her and the baby all the time.

Though both of them managed to survive the gruesome labor, but it didn’t mean iris and the baby were completely fine, both of them still needed to be nursed back to their health, especially the baby, because she was born premature, Grace found some complication and had to pay close attention to her.

Rora. They named their baby that survived after Cane’s late sister and the older daughter Crystal, after Cane’s late mother.

"I want to see her..." Iris said weakly after she breastfed her baby, who was currently sleeping, Grace was with them inside the room, just in case, something happened with the baby, the healer needed to be near.

Cane understood, who Iris meant. She wanted to see their other daughter, who occupied the room next to them. The same room where the white diamond tiger stayed, but right now Ezra was with Zale and stayed with him.

"Okay," Cane said, he leaned over and carried Iris in his arms, both of them walked out of the bedroom. He didn’t object her request, or telling her to take some rest, because both of them knew they needed to see their baby. It was not fair to leave her alone.

Iris rested her head against Cane chest and squinted her eyes slightly when the bright sunlight came to her sight, as the door was opened by Zephyr.

This was the first sunlight after so many months being in the dark. The cold light of sun in the winter season.

People cheered when they finally got to see the light of the sun again, but the heavy tension in the air and devastation of losing someone dear to them lessened their joyful feeling.

They thanked the Serafim for her miracle, assuming she was the one, who made it happened, since the Sylph belonged to her.

However, Abby said nothing and the people from the Holy Kingdom had their own thought about this matter and what actually had transpired, especially the black wisp that came from the alpha. Yet, because the alpha and the luna were still mourning the lost of their baby, they had not yet brought up this matter.

When Iris and Cane entered the next room, Aliana was there too, she looked like she had been crying her eyes out, as she stared at at the baby on the crib.

Iris had tried her hardest to revive her baby, but even when she had the life essence of the first Serafim, there were still things she couldn’t do. She couldn’t revive the death and that was an absolute law of nature.

"Put me down, Cane..." Iris said, she wanted to walk toward her baby.

Cane obliged, but he still wrapped his arm around her waist to prevent her from falling down, as he escorted her to the crib.

Aliana nodded politely at the alpha and luna before she left the room, giving some time for the two of them to see their baby.

"She is beautiful..." Iris said, as she stared at her baby.

"Absolutely," Cane replied.

There was no word that was shared between the two of them for long time, as they mourned the lost of their first daughter.

Iris touched Rora’s cheek and gleam of light appeared.

Once again, she tried to get her little one back, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t revive her baby. She could purify the black magic from her, but she couldn’t bring her back to life.

Iris tried and tried, while Cane let her tried. There was no point of telling her to stop, because he didn’t want her to think she didn’t do enough.

This reality was hard to be accepted, but this was what they had to face.

In the end, Iris stopped trying and simply stared at her baby, kissing her every now and then and sang for her, in small and weak voice. Her voice was shaking when she told her how much she loved her and how sorry she was for not being able to protect her.

They stayed like that for another hour...

"I don’t want her to be buried here..." Iris said finally after a long and depressing silent.

Golden Light pack was too far from their homeland. Iris couldn’t imagine to have her daughter to be buried away in this strange land, away from the place they supposed to be called as home.

"Lou will create a portal to Howling Wolf pack. We will leave tomorrow, early in the morning and prepare a funeral for her," Cane explained.

He had been staying with Iris, but it didn’t mean, he didn’t take care the aftermath of the sudden monster attack. He didn’t presence for the meeting, but Jace was there on his behalf and all the idea to move forward came from Cane.

Even now, Cane didn’t allow himself to breakdown, he shed no tear and moved like normal.

There were a lot of things he needed to take care of. He kept his emotions at bay, putting them on the back of his mind and suppressed them to stay there for as long as he could, because he couldn’t afford to be irrational right now, or indulged in devastation.

"We will bury her in our pack’s grave, inside our family’s."

Even though, Cane said ’our’, but Iris still didn’t feel she belonged to that place, yet she didn’t talk about it, since this was not the time for that.

"Okay."

They stayed for another hour, until it was time for them to leave. Aliana had prepared everything and Rora had been sleeping throughout the afternoon. They had to pay close attention to her and because she was born a month earlier, yet things became more complicated when the baby took after Iris so much where Grace couldn’t use most of her healing ability to her.

Iris felt like she was dying inside when she carried Crystal in her arms, kissing her cheeks, forehead and nose before she left her in this room to check her other baby. She didn’t have a chance to breastfeed her, nor heard her cry.

When they stepped outside, people looked happy to be able to enjoy the sunlight again and to see the clear sky, they talked how nice to see the light again and how the Serafim had finally casted away the darkness.

"The gloomy sky has not left my heart, Cane..." Iris said when Cane carried her back to their bedroom.

"I don’t think it will leave anytime soon," Cane replied.

In the distance, they could see the warriors and knights basked under warm light of the winter sun, they looked relief because everything went normal now with the sky.

However, for Iris and Cane, there was nothing that would be normal. Their lives would never be the same ever again and the gloomy cloud would forever weigh their mind and heart down with the death of their first daughter.

Later that night, when Iris finally fell asleep and their baby was with Grace in different room, Cane went out of the bedroom, knowing his beta had been waiting for him there to give him the report about the whole situation.

"Alpha," Jace greeted Cane. The beta felt bad to weigh him with more trouble when he was mourning for the death of his daughter, but he didn’t have any other choice.

He reported about the gist of the meeting earlier with Koda, alpha Colter and the Serafim.

The Serafim would ask for more reinforcement from the Holy Kingdom once the ice melted and the sea was no longer frozen, so the ships could go through it, but it meant, there would be another three more months until the reinforcement arrived here.

For the Aggeverya road, during the monster attack that happened in the Golden Light pack, there was an attack from Winter Moon pack that joined hand with Moon Dew pack, but thankfully, the attack was not fatal and it didn’t cause many victims. The Aggeverya road still under their control.

"Koda and alpha Colter are still not aware of the Decratic’s influence and the Serafim still refused to explain about what actually happened."

Koda and alpha Colter knew about Decratic because Cane mentioned it when they wanted to get the Serafim’s interest, but they didn’t know the extent of danger this creature would cause.

"Cane, the Serafim wanted to see you. I am sure it’s regarding the black wisp that they saw yesterday." Jace didn’t need to say this, he was certain Cane was not ignorance about this matter.

"I am still mourning," Cane said. He turned around to walk toward the next room, where his death daughter was resting and Jace couldn’t say anything anymore.

Aliana was there to accompany the little one, she immediately stood up when she saw the alpha.

"Thank you, Aliana," Cane said. He was grateful because she kept his daughter company.

"Anytime, alpha." Aliana stood up, she was about to leave the room, giving Cane private moment with the baby.

The Serafim had done something to preserve the little one’s body, so she looked like she was sleeping, her lips were no longer purple.

"Alpha," Aliana called for him before he left the room, she looked hesitant, more so when Cane didn’t respond to her, but she knew he was listening. "It’s okay to grieve and show your pain, it’s actually terrifying when you look so calm."

Cane didn’t respond to that.
