Chapter 688: BLACK RAIN AND DARK SKY (30)
When Abby woke up, everything was over. The battled had ended.
They couldn’t say that they won this battle, since there were a lot of casualties on their side and the royal warriors were forced to retreat.
The reinforcement managed to find a way to go to the other side of the landslide, but when they got there, a lot of people had died. The shifters, the Holy Knights and the magic users. There were not many of them, who survived.
It was the third day and people built a few tents there, because of so many dead people that they had to bury, many children and older one that had fallen sick, as the result of the rain and a lot of things they had to rearrange, not to mention there were some people were missing.
Grace was a handful, she barely could rest when the sick people overflooded the tent, she didn’t have the capacity to heal them, only alleviated their pain for a certain amount of time, but not really got rid of it.
The Serafim was the only one, who could do it, but she was currently unconscious, even if she woke up now, she couldn’t immediately treat them, it would take her a few days to get her health back and during that time, there were more children would die because of the illness.
People prayed in front of her tent for her to wake quickly, while the Holy Knights restricted them from getting close to the tent. They couldn’t care less with the shifter. They were being civil with them because they were on the mission and the Serafim was here to help them.
Therefore, they needed to suppress their disliked toward these creatures of half human and half beast. Despite that personal feeling, they tried their best to help too.
Cedric sent some knights to look for the missing people, on the landslide. It would take them a while to get to the bottom of it, since it was very steep and deep.
While Eron and the other had been down there for days when the Holy Knights came, bringing food for them.
At this point, Eron had found seven of the royal warriors and five of their pack members, all of them were dead.
The three warriors from their packs were crushed under the rock and their body couldn’t be retrieved, they recognized the shoes they were wearing and one of them, his face was still able to be recognixed.
Two of the luna’s personal warriors died, Asher and Reed. Asher’s chest was crushed by a huge rock, while Reed died after being rescued, he was alive for a few hours, but because he sustained a lot of injuries, his healing ability couldn’t keep up.
Kian and Zephyr were alive, the two of them were badly injured, but from the look of it, they would be able to survive, though it would take some time for them to get them out of there, because they were barely able to move.
Meanwhile, Aliana, Haco, Joel and Celia were still missing.
They didn’t have any idea where they were, since they had searched the whole area, where they found the other people, but there was no sign of them at all.
The only reason it could happen was because... they were buried very deep under the rockslide, in that case, there was no way for them to retrieve their body, but if that was what happened, it was very certain that they were dead.
It was impossible for them to survive such misfortune.
"Should we continue?" Otis asked, he ate his food, but he didn’t seem to enjoy it at all. He ate because he needed more energy to deal with what was going on, not because he really wanted it.
How could you eat in front of your dead friends?
"Cedric said to go back, we need to move to the Riverside pack," one of the knights told them. "There will be more people, who came to retrieve the bodies. We will make a proper ceremony for the dead, but after that, we have to move and fortified ourselves within the Riverside pack."
Otis and Dyne looked at Eron, so did Arlen and Deca, the two of them wanted to return to their pack badly, but they couldn’t make the decision on their own.
Eron thought about it for a while. "Let’s look for one more day, after that, we will return." He saw how the knights groaned, dissatisfied with his decision. "There are still four of our pack members, who are missing and moreover, it’s not like you will start to move tomorrow, right? The Serafim is still not awake yet, isn’t she?"
Eron was right, they were waiting for the Serafim’s condition to be stable first before they decided to move.
"Very well." The knights didn’t have another choice, but to agree.
With that, they ate in silence, taking a rest for a few minutes and started to search for the rest of their pack member with the help of the knights.
And the result was still the same. They couldn’t find them...
===========================
This was the first time for Iris to be in the Golden Light pack, or you could say this had become the Red Claw pack territory now, since they won the battle against them not so long ago.
Iris opened the curtain and saw a row of people, who were waiting for them, among them, alpha Colter, Koda and Laluna were standing on the front, but her eyes fell on that woman first.
Iris had not yet seen Laluna for a few months, but she looked like she lost a lot of weight, despite the fact she just gave birth. More so, why she was wearing something very revealing?!
The scrunch between her brows let Cane knew there was something that his mate didn’t like.
"What is it?" Cane asked, he cupped her face and kissed the furrow between her brows. "Something not to your liking?"
"No, nothing," Iris said, but clearly there was something that bothered her, or else, she wouldn’t act so bothered like this.
Cane glanced through the window and found what made his mate upset.
"Come here." Cane pulled her close to him, let her sitting on his lap, as he secured her body in his arms. "You need to control your jealousy, Iris." His tone was soft, but firm.
"I am not!" Iris answered too fast and too loud to make it more convincing, and she realized that too, she cleared her throat and softened her voice. "I am not jealous."
"Being upset for unnecessary thing is not good for the baby," Cane said, as he peppered her face with small kisses, which made his mate happy.
Iris giggled when Cane pecked on her lips continuously, teasing her, but then she squealed.
"What is it?" Cane immediately stopped, his body went stiff, thinking he had hurt her somehow, his eyes darkened when he saw Iris hugged her stomach. "Are you in pain?"
At that time, the carriage stopped and Ethan knocked on their door, letting them know that they had arrived and they needed to come out.
However, Cane ignored it completely, his focus was on his mate. "What happened, Iris? Did I hurt you?"
Iris shook her head, blinking her eyes in confusion and a moment later she breathed sharply.
Cane had enough. He was going to go out to call for a healer when Iris stopped him. "Cane... I think, the baby just moved in my stomach..."
Iris looked confused, because she had never experienced this before and she didn’t know what to feel, her heart thumped wildly as the emotions came flooding in.
"The baby just moved, Cane. I think the baby kicked me." She didn’t have any idea, why she thought the baby was kicking her, but that was the first thing that came to her mind, it felt so natural. "Cane! The baby is moving!"
Iris’s eyes lit up when it just registered in her mind what was happening. She was already mesmerized by seeing her bump alone and now, she could feel her baby was moving inside of her tummy. There was a life in there. The life of her child and Cane’s.
"Cane! The baby is moving!" Iris beamed, as she repeated the same thing, she then took Cane’s hand and pressed it against her stomach to the part, where her baby was moving, creating a strange look on the surface of her stomach. Iris was wearing a thin dress, since she felt warm with Cane by her side. "Can you feel that?"
Cane’s expression was unreadable, as he felt the nudge against his palm. It happened a few times before it stopped.
"Cane, can you feel that?"
Cane lifted his head to look at Iris and then nodded. "I did." He didn’t say much, but he hugged her tightly, not tight enough to hurt their baby, of course. "I did, I feel the baby." He buried his face against the crook of her neck, while forgetting about the fact there were many people waiting for them to come out of the carriage.
Outside, alpha Colter, Koda, Lou, Laluna and the rest looked at each other, as they wait for the alpha and the luna to make an appearance.
Because there was no sign they would come out, they fixed their eyes on the gamma of the pack, which made Ethan didn’t have another choice, but to knock again.
"Alpha, I will open the door," he announced, because there was no response, praying they were not in the middle of it.
