The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 640: ORPHANAGE
Chapter 640: ORPHANAGE
If it was not himself, Lou couldn’t care less about other people, but he was not a sadist, therefore to witness such guts wrenching sight of the horrendous death of the little girl, he felt someone just punched his throat.
He turned around and threw up, while Cane immediately shifted into his beast and attacked the monster.
Vicious roar and sickening bones- cracking sound filled the entire hall. It sounded like a nightmare and ominous sign.
On the other hand, the sight of the poor little girl must be very terrifying for someone like Lou to have this strong reaction. He needed a few moment to compose himself and face the death body of the little girl, while the black beast attacked the monster and cornered it.
"Fuck! Fuck!" Lou cursed under his breath. He felt like he was going to vomit again, but instead, he helped the beast and locked the monster’s movement for a few second, which allowed the black beast to deliver a fatal attack. The beast’s claw buried very deep into the monster’s heart and he ripped it apart viciously.
After that, he beheaded the monster before he shifted back into his human skin and approached the poor little girl, there was nothing much left of her...
"Burn the monster," Cane said to Lou and out of instinct, the merchant did what he was told, forgetting completely how he swore to himself he wouldn’t listen to Cane’s order anymore.
Lou was distraught when he watched how Cane took off his cloak and wrapped it around the little girl’s remaining body, as if he wanted to keep her warm and then carried her in his arms.
"What are you going to do with... her?" Lou burned the dead body of the monster with his magic and then followed Cane.
"Bury her." Cane remembered there was a river in the back yard of the orphanage, he was planning to bury her there. The scenery was nice as far as he remembered.
Meanwhile, Lou followed behind him. The merchant didn’t look happy at all, but he stopped complaining and simply walked behind Cane, looking around, just in case there would be another monster. He was not going to be a snack for the monsters that roamed around this area.
Lou couldn’t help, but thinking so hard what was going wrong with the magical device that he had installed in the Capital City. The monsters shouldn’t be here and they wouldn’t be able to enter, unless... there was someone did what he had done during the new year, or someone messed up with the magical device, and for the latter, he needed to go to the great wall to confirm that.
"Dig the ground," Cane said to Lou, once they arrived, thankfully, this place didn’t change so much, aside from the fact it was very dark here, no one lit up the fire to illuminate this area.
Like before, Lou did what Cane told him to do without even really thinking about it, probably because it didn’t cross his mind, since he had a lot to think of.
Once he was done, Cane put the little girl inside and laid her on the cold ground. Her body was still wrapped tightly inside his cloak. Gently, he wiped blood from her cheeks before he covered her face with the hoodie and then climbed up.
Lou then made the ground covered her body, which essentially buried her, let her to be hugged by the cold ground near the river.
Cane remembered that little girl, though her face was hardly recognized. He remembered that was the little girl, he met when just had a meeting for the first time with Koda. She told him innocently about Lil Thing that came to the orphanage and want to feed it.
The girl looked terrified at him, because of the scar on his face, but once she spoke, she was a good story teller and full with curiosity.
In his memory, she looked lively and full of life, but now, she couldn’t even tell a story.
"Where are you going again now?" Lou washed his hand and splashed water from the river on his face when he saw Cane was about to leave again.
"Look for the other children."
Cane’s original plan to come here was to look for the fruit that Iris wanted, but also because he wanted with his own eyes and made a judgement about what had transpired in the capital city, so he could get a better picture of what Alan was up to.
As it turned out, it was even more horrible than he imagined.
There was no life in this city and every inch of this place filled with tension and fear. You would find it very suffocating to breath the air in this capital city.
Alan really wanted to ruin his own kingdom.
Cane might be crazy, but he wished Aeon was still alive, at the very least, he wouldn’t let his own kingdom to fall into this disaster. He was easier to handle, after all, facing an idiot like Alan, who was driven by impulse and became a puppet of people behind him, was way more unpredictable.
"Why do you care about those children?" Lou caught up with Cane, he walked beside him. He really didn’t want to go into that building again, who could guarantee he wouldn’t meet with such thing again?
He had a weak stomach and a tender heart, okay? More so, he was sleep deprived. This was the worst night ever in his entire thirty one years of life.
"Let them be, what can you do for them? Let’s get out of here! We still have a lot of things to deal with and I need to catch up with my sleep!"
Yes, why Cane cared for them when he clearly had told Iris that he was not going to do anything to help with the children in the orphanage, because he couldn’t see how it would help with his plan. If anything, it would complicate what he had planned.
But, here he was. When the decided to come to the capital city and take a look of the situation here, the first place that came to his mind was this orphanage.
Golden Seed fruit was a common fruit in the Capital and he had seen it a few times when they served meal in the dining hall, therefore he thought he could find the fruit here, but as it turned out, this place was as good as a haunted house.
"Let’s get out of here, I don’t think there will be any children alive there." Lou was being noisy, demanding for them to leave when he actually could leave Cane here alone, but he didn’t do it.
What Lou said actually made sense, seeing this place, it was a miracle there was still children alive, but probably because Cane was going to have a baby on his own, this fact softened him, he couldn’t put his conscience at peace before he tried to look for them.
He couldn’t appear as callous and heartless as he wanted to and this could be a warning sign that he cared too much, by any mean, that was not a good sign, since he couldn’t let his feeling interfere with the decision and plan, he created.
Yet, instead of leaving the orphanage like how Lou kept nagging at him, Cane entered the main building once again. He tried to look for any sign of the children, but after two hours of checking every every nook and cranny, he couldn’t find anyone or any sign of them.
The moment he got out of the main building to the second one, the black rain started pouring down again and Lou almost strangled Cane because he wouldn’t listen to him at all when he started to search on the second building.
=====================
"Abby, you need to sleep," Liam said when he felt the movement from her on the bed and it woke him up.
"I am sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you up," Abby said apologetically, she had tried to not make any sound, but for some reason, she still ended up woke him up.
Liam was sitting on the sofa, he needed to guard her inside the bedroom too because the situation was dire. The black rain was a bad sign.
Abby knew this was the sign of Decratic and she had written a letter to ask for more reinforcement from the Holy Kingdom and now she hoped they were here before things could escalate further.
Black rain, famine, natural disaster and then followed by diseases and illnesses. This was the circle, which was the sign of the revival of the dark soul.
"Abby..." Liam approached Abby and draped her cloak over her shoulders, as he hugged her from behind. The Serafim melted in the arms of the man she shouldn’t have any relationship with. Liam was her protector and she needed to see him just like that.
If someone knew about what kind of relationship they had, it would be frowned upon. Not to mention as the weakest Serafim in the story, Abby didn’t have so much power to even protect herself from her own people. It was a complicated thing.
"Once the reinforcement is here, we need to march to the Capital City. If what Koda said was right, the current king will have some kind of involvement with the Worshipper. Lady Cyan, his mother, could be the member of the Worshipper," Abby said in small voice, she closed her eyes, savoring the warm from Liam, who was hugging her from behind.
Just like what they had already known, the Worshippers were the people who devoted their life to bring back Decratic to this realm. If they could find one of them here, it meant, Decratic would be revived in this continent.
"Yes. We are going to kill him again." Liam was determined in this. All of them in the Holy Kingdom had learned the resurrection of the Decratic and in Liam’s mind, it would be as easy as killing an enemy, but the truth would be more complicated than he ever imagined. "You will be fine."
Abby didn’t answer that, because she had this bad feeling about the whole situation, as if the whole world would crumble and this desperation that she felt must have something to do with the black rain.
========================
"Open the door," Cane said calmly in front of a door that had been barred tightly, leaving only a small hole underneath it.
From inside, Cane could hear shuffling and whispering sound. There they were. The children, who survived the attacked from the monsters.
"Wh- who are you?" There was this small and childish voice from behind the closed door. The little girl must be trembling, fear was very thick in her voice.
"Joyce, is that you?" Cane didn’t remember the girl named Joyce, but she was the only name he knew, since she was the only child, who sent letter to Iris.
"Wh- who are you? I- I am Joyce."
"Come out, Joyce. I am Cane."
There was another shuffling and gasping, this time Cane and Lou could hear the girl’s soft footsteps approached the door, but instead of opening it, she crawled from the small hole underneath the door and appeared on the other side.
"Damn! She must be very small to fit in such hole." Lou was surprised to see the fact the girl could come out from that hole. He thought that hole was for rat.
"Al- alpha Cane?" Joyce blinked her eyes when he saw the alpha before her. She knew luna Iris’s mate was alpha Cane.
"Yes, it’s me."
The little girl immediately broke down crying, she hugged Cane’s legs and cried her heart out, while rambling something incoherently. It was hard to say what she was talking about.
Out of instinct, Cane bent down his body and carried her in his arms to calm her down.
