The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 639: CAPITAL CITY (2)
Chapter 639: CAPITAL CITY (2)
The capital city was a trade center and a place that was always busy and lively, filled with many people of various statuses and powerful backgrounds.
Where all the centers of activity on this continent mostly take place here, but right now this place was not much different from the Silver River pack, where famine occurs and rubbish piles up in the corners of the alleys, some shops that were usually busy have closed and there were not many people on the streets, where you can see bloodstains, which Cane assumes were the remains of people attacked by monsters.
The change in this place was very significant, it was baffling.
"They were not wrong when they accused you of the failure with the magical device. You failed indeed." Cane touched the stain of blood on the wall and was sure this blood came from goblin. He could differentiate it.
Black rain apparently poured down this area as well, but right now, the rain had stopped, yet the sky was still pitch black. Without the sunlight, it was very depressing to say the least. They didn’t know how long this phenomenon would stop, or whether someone was behind all of this.
But, Cane’s instinct inclined to the latter.
"I should have sent letter to the Howling Wolf pack about it." The same magical device was built in his pack and the tunnel was protected with the same magical device too.
However, Lou couldn’t accept that. "There is no way I failed!" he was hissing viciously. "There must be something wrong with the way they handled the magical device that I created!" he gritted his teeth.
Cane only glanced at him and continued walking toward the orphanage, which made the merchant annoyed even more.
"I am serious! We need to go to the great wall to make sure of that!" Lou was upset to himself because he was trying so hard to make Cane changed the way he was thinking of his work. Why would he care about what he was thinking!? This was annoying beyond words!
Why would he need to prove himself in front of him?!
"Hey! I am serious!"
"Be quiet, you are going to wake everyone." Cane gave Lou a warning glance, which made the merchant even more enraged, but he could only bite his tongue.
"Don’t you think this is weird there is no royal warriors whatsoever in this area?" Lou finally spoke after a long silence. He couldn’t stand this awkwardness, while Cane didn’t seem to bother at all.
Cane had noticed it the moment he walked in the main street. This place had been attacked by monster frequently, the letters that Joyce sent to Iris only grazed the surface of the situation here. In this case, the royal warriors and guards supposed to be stationed in every nook and cranny of this place, but after a few minutes of walking, he couldn’t find any of them.
The people inside the Capital City couldn’t go out, because when they tried, they would be killed, but inside the city, they were being attacked by the monsters too.
It was still a mystery why these monsters could be inside the city gates.
Cane didn’t doubt Lou’s ability and his magical device, because he was certain all of this absurdity happened because of what lady Cyan and her father had planned, but what the end goal of ruining the city?
Now, being here and witnessed the situation with his own eyes, Cane could get the full picture of it. This alerted him even more.
"Hey, can’t you speak out your mind?" Lou was frustrated. He knew there were a lot of things that swirled in this alpha’s mind, but he didn’t let out a peep. "Share what you are thinking! Ugh! I can’t imagine how Iris is be able to stay with someone like you."
A glare from Cane was enough to shut him up, as they walked the rest of their walk in silence toward the orphanage.
Both of them were wearing hoodie that covered their faces, just in case someone would recognize them and it took a stern talk from Cane to make Lou dropped his tacky red cloak. What the point of covering their faces when he was wearing that crazily bright color?
Once they arrived in the orphanage, Cane narrowed his eyes. He almost did not recognize this building anymore.
"Are you sure the children are still alive?" Lou frowned to see the two buildings that supposed to be the place for the orphan children. The main building looked empty, there was no light at all, while the second building, which supposed to be the new building under the construction before Cane left, was abandoned. The construction on it had not yet done before it stopped.
Cane said nothing and pushed opened the rusty gates, which there was stain of blood there. It seemed the orphanage had been under attack by monster as well and whoever put the spell to protect this place had failed.
Cane gritted his teeth, as he walked into the main building. He sniffed the air and the putrid smell hit his senses, burned his throat. It was not a good sign.
He knew something horrendous might have happened here.
"Are you really going to go inside that building?" Lou frowned very hard. He didn’t want to go inside at all, but at this point, it was already too late for him, since he had this urge to stay close with this alpha. To be honest, the vibe this place had, gave him chill down his spine.
He was ready to get them out of here.
"Look for the children," Cane said, as if he was giving an order to Ethan or Dean.
"What? Why should I?!" Lou was enraged.

"Stop crying, okay?" Kellan coaxed his mate to stop crying, because she missed her father and was homesick. She wanted to go back to the Crescent Moon pack, but she couldn’t.
The sky looked very gloomy, while the weird black rain had stopped pouring down, the sky still looked the same.
Arella was only seventeen years old, she was very young and she mated with prince Kellan a month after he sought refugee in her father’s pack when the new king started to kill all of his siblings the moment he sat on the throne.
Mated with a man that was twice her age didn’t bother her, because she believed it was love, prince Kellan told her it was love. He convinced her the feeling between them was a mate bond and with a few whispers of sweet nothing, the prince put his mark on her.
Arella loved him, but she couldn’t bear to be away from her father and her pack. She missed them terribly, but she needed to follow her mate to go back to the palace, being locked away from the outside world in this palace that used to belong to prince Kellan.
The only thing that cheered her up was the orphanage girls that accompanied her every day whenever prince Kellan was being summoned to meet with the king.
King Alan used them to keep her father and brother in check to manage the north and force them to pledge their loyalty to the king.
"I miss my father. I want to go back," Arella sobbed painfully, as she sat on Kellan’s lap. She rested her head on the crook of his neck, while he held her close to him.
"I know, I am sorry to make your life miserable. This is my fault. I shouldn’t have involved you in this." Kellan caressed her back, running his fingers down her spine. "I am sorry."
Arella shook her head. She wiped her tears harshly. "No. Please, don’t say that. I am sorry for being a crybaby. Please don’t blame yourself."
"I feel so bad for you," Kellan said in whispery tone, as if he was going to cry himself for putting her in misery.
"No, please... don’t. I am sorry. I love you. I really do. I only miss them because I didn’t use to be away from them, but if I have to choose, I will go with you. I will choose to stay with you."
Arella kissed his lips and Kellan hugged her tightly, but a moment later, very subtle, he ran his fingers on her thigh and started to caress her smooth inner thigh, up to her arse. Arella was still timid with this intimacy and this was what Kellan liked from her.
"Undress for me?" Kellan whispered to her ear.
"O- okay..." Arella didn’t feel like she wanted to have this interaction with him, because her emotions were all over the places and she was still very sad, but she couldn’t reject him. She didn’t want to make Kellan upset.
Got up from Kellan’s lap, Arella started to undress herself, but Kellan frowned, the moment she was standing completely naked before him.
"Didn’t I tell you to shave down there?" Kellan’s voice was trembling, he was holding back his anger. He didn’t like the sight of him that reminded him she was a grown up woman now. She would only get old and this pissed him off.
"I am sorry... I..." Arella tried to make an excuse, but she couldn’t think of anything, she felt ashamed of herself, as she tried to cover her body again. The way Kellan stared at her made her felt dirty and unworthy.
Arella had been feeling very depressed ever since she arrived a few weeks ago and didn’t take care of herself. It was not that she really neglected herself, but Kellan wanted to be really clean down there.
"You kill the mood, Arella," Kellan said with disappointed look on his face. "I know I have made a lot of demands from you. This is not fair for you when I can’t even take care of myself without the help of someone else, I am sorry."
Hearing that, Arella became panic, she immediately crouched down in front of Kellan and hugged his legs. "I am sorry, please, don’t be mad at me."
"I don’t mad at you, Arella. How can I be mad to the love of my life?" Kellan shook his head. "I only wish you can be more mature. You used to be very mature for a girl in your age, but being away from your home make you a little bit out of your character. I used to adore your maturity."
Kellan brushed his thumb against her cheek and lips, as she started crying.
"You cry so much nowadays, I am sorry that I can’t make you happy."
Arella shook her head. "You make me happy. You really do. You are my mate."
"Yes, I am your mate. I wish you can be yourself again, Arella." Kellan kissed the top of her head, but the moment his mate didn’t see it, his eyes turned dark.
Right at that moment, there was a knock on the door and one of the guard informed Kellan that he was being summoned by the king and he needed to leave immediately.
This was not the first time, Kellan was being summoned to the throne room, but what made him a little bit confused was, it would always be the head royal sorcerer, who he would always meet there, while Alan was nowhere to be seen.

Cane sniffed the air, among the putrid smell inside this building, he caught another scent and followed it, while Lou kept complaining like a well maintenance lady that he dirtied his cloak and how they shouldn’t be here in this nasty place.
In this rate, Cane had mastered the ability to tune him out, he followed the scent, which led him to dining hall, where he saw a monster, Deadeyes, devoured a child. The poor little girl definitely had died with her limbs were being chewed by the monster.
"Damn it!" Lou cursed under his breath upon witnessing the heartbreaking scene.
