Chapter 569: I WILL BE OKAY
Chapter 569: I WILL BE OKAY
Cane entered the bedroom, which he occupied with Iris after he retrieved his bloody cloak from the carriage. He put the cloak down on the table and approached the bed, where Iris was sleeping soundly.
Cane didn’t say anything when he heard what Aliana said. He stared at Iris’ sleeping face. There was a crease between her brows, it seemed, his actions really bothered her.
"Leave the cloak, Aliana," Cane said sternly when he saw from the corner of his eyes Aliana was about to take the cloak away because she saw the bloodstains on it.
"But, this is dirty and I..."
"Leave it be."
Aliana didn’t argue about it anymore and simply left the bedroom.
"Iris," Cane called her name softly, once Aliana had left him alone with his mate.
He didn’t mean to make things difficult for her, but he was not in the right mind. There were so many things he needed to think through and Iris’ presence simply hindered him from seeing things objectively.
For example, he made a sudden decision to stay for three more days here.
They should have left this pack and not looked back, but the fact they were still here meant what Iris said earlier affected him deeper than he wanted. Seeing her so upset bothered him.
It might be a bad decision to take, but to know Iris would be glad to hear they were going to stay, was enough for him. This was why he couldn’t care too deeply... it affected his decisions and right now, he needed to focus.
"Don’t dislike me, Iris." Cane smoothened the crease between her brows. "I have warned you before."
Cane had indeed warned her that they would face a situation like this, where she would dislike his decisions, but to hear it out loud from her, affected him more than he expected.
The Alpha leaned over and pressed his lips against hers gently, he lingered for a while before he stood up, took the bloody cloak and left the room. Eron, Kian and Asher were right outside.
"Call Aliana back and tell her to sleep inside," Cane ordered one of them. He was not going to sleep tonight, because there was another important matter that he had to take care of and it couldn’t be delayed anymore.
This was one of the reasons why his mood was so bleak. Cane looked even more fearsome right now, as if his whole figure was shrouded in dark clouds. He looked so dominant and scary. None of them dared to make even a small mistake in his presence whenever he was like this.
Not even the Gamma...
"Cane, Haco is sleeping. I think you need to let him rest after what happened this afternoon," The Gamma said when he was told to call Haco, but he immediately changed his tune once he saw the look on Cane’s face. "Right away. I will drag him out of the bed if I have to."
With that, Ethan immediately rushed to get the sorcerer without trying to help Haco again. He needed to help himself first, right?
Iris had challenged the Alpha’s order this afternoon in front of so many eyes and Ethan wouldn’t be so lucky to be left unscathed like the Luna did...
It took a while for Ethan to bring Haco to Cane, as the Alpha waited in the garden, under the pale moonlight. He was sitting on a bench with his eyes closed and his arms folded in front of his chest.
"You can leave."
Cane opened his eyes when he smelled Ethan and Haco’s scents, as they came closer to him. He hoped the sorcerer was sane enough to hold a conversation with him, at least, until their business was done.
"Yes, Alpha," Ethan said politely, as he retreated after he helped Haco to sit down on the same bench as Cane. He felt so bad to wake him up mid sleep, especially when he looked so exhausted. He looked so old, as if he had grown older by a few decades in only a few weeks. Were all the magic users like that? Ethan was not sure of the answer.
"What do you want?" Haco asked. He yawned sleepily and tightened the cloak around his body. He felt so cold, even though tonight was rather warm.
"I want you to make it quick." Cane handed over the bloody cloak in his hand and then two magic stones to Haco.
The sorcerer narrowed his eyes, he looked a little bit alarmed with Cane’s request, despite the order not being said out loud, he knew what kind of thing that this alpha wanted to be done.
"Whose blood is that?" Haco was doubtful that Cane was trying to trick him again just like how he had cursed Princess Osana without him knowing it. "One of the royal family members again?"
"No."
"Will you tell me whose blood is that?"
"No."
"Damn it, Cane. If you want me to end someone’s life, shouldn’t I be informed about who it is first?" Haco returned to his old, grumpy self, which was something Cane wished for, because this conversation would be hard if he was not in his right mind.
"Just do it, Haco and do it quickly, so that person will not feel any pain."
Haco narrowed his eyes, his brain worked harder this time. "Is this someone close to you? Someone you care for?" Cane didn’t answer the question, but his silence was enough for Haco to know. "Think about this again, don’t find yourself regretting this decision later."
"Whatever decision I will take, I will regret it because I can’t find a better way."
He would regret it if he went through with his decision right now, but he would regret it if things escalated in a direction he feared the most.
When a part of your plant got rotten, you had to cut that part off, so it wouldn’t affect the other parts and cause the death of the said plant. That was what Cane was doing right now.
The part of the plant was too rotten to be saved. The plant might not realize that it was dying, since the rot would spread to the other parts of the plant gradually, which would eventually cause the death of the plant. That part was too rotten to be saved and Cane needed to cut it off, before it affected the other parts as well.
"Make sure it is a quick and a clean death."
Haco sighed deeply. "I can’t understand you, Cane, but then you don’t need to explain things to me, because I will forget about it anyway."
"How does it feel to forget about everything, Haco?" Cane asked, somehow, he looked genuinely curious, as if he really wanted to know how it would feel not to have all of these troubles.
"Well... it’s a nice feeling, you only care about things that you love."
"Things that I love..." Cane repeated it quietly, as he stared at the dark sky, the moon was hiding behind the clouds and the night was so serene. "I wonder what I will remember, if I really forget everything one day..."
Haco stared at the bloody cloak and then at Cane. "Are you okay?"
"Hm." Cane nodded. "I will be okay, just not today."
