Chapter 568: DON’T TOO HARSH ON HER

Iris was not sure what she wanted to achieve when she said those words to Cane. She did it in the heat of the moment, she wished for him to know how much his decision had disappointed her, but now when she thought about it again, Iris felt like she was so insensitive.

Of course, Cane cared so much about his people, though he didn’t show it openly. She knew about it from the very beginning and her comment was so insensitive where she did not think about his feelings at all.

Iris stared outside of the window, feeling guilty, but she couldn’t rest her conscience with the thought they were leaving.

It was not that Cane didn’t help these people at all, he helped them by providing them basic things they needed to survive and even ordered Grace to heal them, or commanded his warriors to pull the dead bodies out and gather them in one place, so they could give their loved ones a proper burial.

However, the Alpha didn’t intend to stay longer than this. He wouldn’t change his mind about leaving.

Feeling guilty, Iris waited for Cane to come into the carriage, since she didn’t want to display any defiance in front of his pack members again. Challenging the Alpha in public was a crime and Iris was lucky to be able to get out of it unscathed.

However, after waiting for a long time and when the sun was about to set, it was Aliana, who came into the carriage, instead of Cane.

"You look so disappointed to see me, Luna," Aliana teased her. She always had this mischievous smile on her face, maybe because she used to be with children, she would always look so happy and positive, even when she didn’t even try.

"No, I am not." Iris lowered her head to hide her disappointment.

Aliana didn’t pursue the matter further. "We are going now," she said and as if on cue, the carriage started to move.

Iris lifted her head in surprise and looked around. "Where is Cane?"

"Oh, the Alpha will be in the rear, just in case there is another attack by the Silver Warriors," Aliana said lightly, watching how Iris’ expression fell.

He didn’t want to be in the same space as her? Was he that angry with her until he couldn’t stand the sight of her? Iris wanted to cry, she had this conflicted feeling.

But when she stared out the window, hoping she could catch a sight of Cane, she noticed something was not right.

"We crossed this path before... are we heading back to the pack house?" Iris shifted her attention back to Aliana. "This is the street we passed when we were going to leave the Silver River pack."

"Oh, the Alpha must have not yet told you about this." Aliana clapped her hands. "He said we will stay for three more days here, because there are some warriors that need intensive care and a lot of pack members had got injured during the attack. He opened the pack house’s gates for them to come, so Grace could treat them."

Iris widened her eyes in disbelief. This was something she didn’t imagine would happen. Didn’t Cane say, he was not going to stay and would leave as soon as possible? This was unbelievable!

Three days! Cane was actually willing to stay for three more days in this pack and help those people!

"Cane said that?" Iris raised her voice and this made Aliana chuckle.

"I think the Alpha wanted us to leave this pack because he doesn’t want to expose you to more danger, Luna." Aliana grinned. "He became so anxious after countless attacks and wanted to leave immediately, thinking your life might be in danger if we stay here for long."

"He wanted to leave because this pack doesn’t offer any benefits and he only received trouble from the mutineers," Iris corrected Aliana.

"Agreed." Aliana smiled gently. "But, you should have known by now that the Alpha loves to mix things up. He is indeed thinking of the benefits, but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t count you into his consideration. He has a little bit of a twisted mind."

Iris frowned. "Don’t talk about Cane like that."

Hearing her luna’s unhappy tone, Aliana burst into laughter. "You must see your expression right now, Luna!"

Iris sulked. She stared at the window, trying to catch a glimpse of a certain black wolf with golden eyes, but she couldn’t find the beast, she only got a sight of Lil Thing. The bear looked unhappy because its fur was covered in blood.

"The Alpha might not show it to you, Luna, but he cares deeply about you, or else, he will not listen to you. He knows how much you care about this pack and don’t want to leave it behind." Aliana took Iris’ hands and she shifted her attention toward her. Aliana had the same eyes as Jace and they were so beautiful. "Don’t take it to heart when the Alpha talks sternly with you, because that’s how he shows his care."

Aliana then told Iris about the story how Cane was so mad when Leana was injured during her pregnancy. It was not a big thing, she simply hit her head against a low branch when she took a walk with her maid, but Cane ordered to cut all the low branches of the trees, inside and outside of the pack house, even in the streets that someone like Leana wouldn’t visit.

"He can be so overprotective." Aliana reminisced about the past, while Iris happily listened. She wanted to know more about her mate and how he was before the slavery. What kind of person he was before everything that went down.

With Aliana accompanying Iris inside the carriage, a certain auburn haired woman didn’t feel sad anymore, though it still bothered her because she had not yet met with Cane.

Once they arrived at the pack house again, Iris waited for Cane inside the bedroom, instead of roaming around like she intended to do, because Aliana said the Alpha told her to make sure she stayed inside the bedroom.

Not wanting to upset Cane even more, Iris obliged him this time, she had defied him more than once today, she didn’t want to push her luck with him again.

However, Iris couldn’t keep her plan straight when she felt so tired and no matter how hard she tried to stay awake, it was already so late and it passed her sleeping hour.

Therefore, when she closed her eyes, she fell into a deep sleep, while Aliana sat on the couch, writing a few messages to inform Jace of their condition, so the Beta would stay well informed about their situation.

"You are right, she can’t hold back her sleepiness. This is too late for her," Aliana said with a smile when she heard the door open and Cane’s scent hit her senses before his figure appeared.

"You can leave," Cane said, he dismissed Aliana and sat down on the edge of the bed, next to the sleeping Iris.

"Alpha, don’t avoid her like this, she felt so guilty for defying you this morning, please, don’t be too harsh on her," Aliana said before she left.
