The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 556: PROVING THEIR POINT

Chapter 556: PROVING THEIR POINT

Had the Red Claw pack managed to support the baby to retain his given position, Koda would have become the regent by now until the baby came of age to take over the throne.

"This whole situation is so fishy, Abby." Liam grew frustrated. In the public, there was no way he would voice his displeasure over a decision of hers. As her protector, his only duty was to serve, obey and protect her.

However, things between them were more than that. He cared deeply for her, not just because of his duty as the Holy knight.

"I know. That’s why we need to know more about it. The activity of black magic becomes more and more problematic nowadays, you know that as well, Liam. It is my duty to eradicate it."

"Abby..."

"I don’t want to hear any more protests, Liam. Your duty is to protect me, not to advise me," Abby said sternly and it seemed her words had hurt the knight, as his body stiffened and his voice became a little bit cold.

"Apologies for overstepping my boundaries, Serafim. I will take my leave. Have a good rest."

After saying that, Liam turned around and Abby felt a pang in her heart. She hated it when she hurt him and did not listen to him.

They should be in the capital city, but because of the recent power struggle, it was hard to say whether this new king was a safe option, even though Prince Alan was the person who had informed them about the activity of black magic in this continent. However, rumors say that he got involved with black magic too.

More so, Alpha Nolan had disclosed about Lady Cyan and how she was a dark witch, who had killed the previous king while Alan was her son.

Abby curled her body, hugging herself while thinking about the meeting with Alpha Colter tomorrow. From the letters she received, there was something very important that needed to be discussed in person, that was why the Alpha and a few of his people were taking the risk to cross the border to meet her in person.

===========================

Since the day of the attack, Cane had never left Iris’ side, he sent Ethan and a few warriors to learn the situation in the Silver River pack and report it back to him.

Though it was not efficient to do just this and he was used to inspecting everything on his own, he couldn’t bring himself to go out until Iris was in a good condition and he was sure she was out of danger.

It was not that Iris was in a life threatening situation. Grace herself said she only needed to rest, but in Cane’s eyes she was. She looked so pale and lethargic, and most of the time, she would sleep without moving at all.

Out of fear, Cane would put his finger under her nose and could only feel slightly relieved when he could feel her warm breath. He would even place his palm over her chest at times to feel her heartbeat.

"You can control monsters?" Cane asked her on the fourth day. Iris looked a little bit better now and she could hold a long conversation.

"I did it out of impulse." Iris bit her spoon and thought about that. "I think I have done it before..."

She had indeed commanded the monsters to stop out of impulse. And she felt like she had done this before and when she thought about it, she remembered that it was when she saved Ania when they were in the Blue Moon pack’s mines and there was a monster attack.

"I didn’t realize at that time that I could make them stop, but thinking back to it again... I think I did it when there was a monster attack in the palace too when Lou saved me."

Cane scoffed derisively when he heard that. Since Lu refused to admit he was the one who had summoned the monsters in the palace, even though the lycan said proudly that he was the one who escalated the situation, there was no one who could do that aside from Lou, especially when the merchant was actually a magic user too.

And when Cane thought about what kind of benefits the merchant had gotten... he actually bagged a lot of benefits from that incident.

However, Cane was not in the mood to bring him into this conversation.

"How can you do it?" Cane emphasized the main topic.

"I don’t know, it just happened. Oh, I think you couldn’t do it because those monsters were controlled by black magic. That’s why you felt an obstruction."

"I guessed as much." Cane nodded.

Since Iris could purify black magic, it was possible for her to take the control back. But, until now they were still not sure whether she purified black magic or actually absorbed it...

Iris glanced at Cane, she put her spoon down, feeling so full. She ate too much, but he always said she had not eaten enough. Well, compared to him, the amount of food she ate was insignificant. "I think it will be the same feeling when you control the monsters."

"I don’t think so." In Cane’s case, he had to exert some efforts to take control of the lycan’s ability, but when Iris did that, she did it effortlessly.

However, whenever Cane tried to communicate with the lycan, this cursed creature actually shut him off. He refused to talk, but Cane could still feel his anger to see Iris was hurt.

"Do you think the abilities of the first Serafim and the lycan to control the monsters are somehow related?"

"Probably," Cane replied. He forked a piece of meat and placed it before her lips for her to eat it. "I am glad you have this ability, so no monster can hurt you in the future." Cane’s eyes then filled with amusement when he remembered another thing. "And no shifter will be a bother for you if they still want to live."

Iris chuckled. "You make it sound like I am a badass!"

"Finish your meal," Cane said, as he caressed her head. "I will leave for a while this afternoon." He had been by Iris’ side for days and the matters in the Silver River pack fell so behind, it couldn’t be delayed anymore.

"I am full," Iris whimpered. "You have not yet told me about the situation in the Silver River pack."

They had arrived almost a week back, but because of Iris’ condition, she needed to recover and rest inside the bedroom, thus aside from this room, she had never been anywhere or heard anything about the matters at hand, since Cane refused to talk about it, giving an excuse she needed to rest.

"Later." Cane leaned over and kissed her lips, his method to distract her and make her stop talking. Who said his mate was timid? She could be so bold whenever they were alone...

==========================

Because Cane refused to tell her about what was going on, Iris had a way to get a little bit of information about the situation they were in at this moment.

However, Aliana seemed to focus on a different matter.

"Luna! You can control monsters?!" Aliana looked excited when she came to bring her lunch. All this time, no one was allowed to enter the room, aside from Grace, as she needed to check her condition from time to time. The food would always be delivered to the door and the Alpha would get it.

Therefore, this was the first time for Aliana to talk and meet with Iris in person after the incident on their way to the Silver River pack.

"How can you do that?! That’s awesome! All the warriors have been talking about it!" Aliana looked so enthusiastic, as she pulled a chair and sat down, eager to listen to Iris’ explanation. "When did you realize you could control the monsters?"

"It’s not that I can control them as I like..." Iris grimaced.

However, Aliana waved her hands impatiently. "A handful of warriors said it’s just great timing and the monsters were only shocked when you screamed at them to stop, thus they didn’t move, but that crap is nonsense. All of us witnessed how the monsters stopped moving when you commanded them to do so."

Those warriors were the ones who still held a grudge against Iris. It was well known that the provocation from the royal warriors when they stayed in their pack had affected them so much. It brought back all the unpleasant memories and incited their hatred toward her again.

"Eron and Dyne have been bragging about it and telling anyone who wants to listen about how awesome to have you as the Luna." Aliana grinned when she saw how Iris’ expression turn into one of horror when she heard that. She didn’t like to be the center of the attention and the two warriors simply dragged her to be one.

"I think I need to have a talk with the two of them..." Iris muttered under her breath. She had been followed by the two of them long enough to know that they could go overboard with their dramatic storytelling.

Aliana chuckled when she heard that. "Don’t be too harsh on them, Luna. They are so happy to prove to everyone that you deserve your title and how good you are."

Of course, Dyne and Eron were well aware of the hatred that was directed toward Iris from their fellow warriors and they did this to prove their point how wrong it was for them to hate her.
