The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 555: THE AFTERMATH

Chapter 555: THE AFTERMATH

Ever since what happened in the mountains and how Lu disclosed his ability to control the monsters and Cane suspected it was actually him, who had summoned the monsters to the palace, though the lycan was adamant it was not him who had instigated it, Cane had been trying to practice controlling his ability.

But, every time he did it, black wisp managed to emerge from him. As this ability belonged to the lycan, it was only right for this creature to come along when he tried to use it, which didn’t help if they were attacked by monsters and were surrounded by people, who were still not aware that Cane was the lycan.

However, Cane was willing to risk everything when he watched in horror that Iris was in a dire situation and Lil Thing wouldn’t last long.

Yet, there was something that obstructed him, as if there was a shield around the monsters that didn’t let him control them. They were out of control, as though there was another power that was controlling them and the lycan’s ability couldn’t intervene with that.

It wouldn’t have come as a surprise if Cane had taken some time to analyze the situation and the monsters’ strange behavior or how hard it was for the warriors to kill them off, as if they had grown very strong.

But, Cane didn’t have time and he didn’t use his mind when he decided to reveal himself as the lycan, once he saw the carriage almost fall off the cliff.

He couldn’t reach the monsters and he was so close to letting Lu take over his body, as it was the best chance to save Iris, once he caught the sight of another horde of monsters that was about to join the fray. And so, black wisp started to exude from his body, but before Cane could surrender completely to the lycan, the carriage exploded and everything happened so fast.

As of now, Iris was sitting behind Lil Thing and heading toward the heart of the battle, which made Cane lose his cool.

However, Iris seemed to know what she was doing and what to do to save this chaotic situation...

Sliding down from behind the white bear’s body, she used Lil Thing to support her body when she casted white light from her palms.

"STOP!" Iris roared at the top of her lungs and strangely enough, the monsters stopped their movements and stood still, this had the same effect as when Lu controlled them. They listened to what she was ordering them to do.

It was not only Lu, who could control the monsters, but Iris as well? Only then, Cane could feel it, as the obstruction that didn’t allow him to control these monsters disappeared. He could feel them again.

But, it was not necessary now, because once Iris commanded those monsters to stop, the werewolf warriors immediately killed them off. Without the influence of the black magic, it was pretty easy to take them down, especially when they didn’t fight back.

This phenomenon was simply too unbelievable for them to comprehend, but they didn’t have time to think about that, as they needed to eliminate the danger first.

By the time all the monsters had been killed and the putrid smell of blood filled the air, Iris couldn’t hold it any longer. She was losing so much blood and got badly injured, not to mention she exhausted her power as well, thus once the last monster was killed, her body collapsed but Lil Thing was there to catch her fall.

The pain disappeared once she was no longer in tune with this world...

================================

Iris felt her body was so cold when she was going in and out of consciousness. She felt her ears ringing painfully, there were a lot of people talking around her, but she couldn’t string a sentence they said.

The only comforting thing was the sound of Cane’s dark voice, filled with panic and helplessness.

Iris didn’t like the sound of it, she wanted to open her eyes and hug him, tell him not to worry, but she could barely open her eyes before she fell unconscious once again.

She was not sure how long she had been in this state, but when she finally had enough strength to open her eyes, she was already in a warm and comfortable bedroom with fire lit up in the fireplace and the lizard curled its body next to her head.

Iris let out a whimper, because her body felt so uncomfortably weak and even though the pain almost didn’t exist, she was so drowsy and her whole body felt like jelly.

She heard a movement bef someone talking quickly in a low voice in the distance and knew immediately it was Cane. She recognized the way he walked and the sight of him eased her discomfort a little bit.

Cane immediately sat down on the edge of the bed and held her hand.

"How are you feeling?" Cane asked, he caressed her cheek and kissed her hand. His eyes left no room to hide.

"Exhausted and weak..." Iris replied in a small voice. The lizard beside her head lifted its head and blinked at her.

Cane extended his hand and caressed her hair. He had no words to say, but one look at him, you could tell how distraught he was. He became even more callous now.

"How long?" Iris asked again when Cane didn’t say anything and just stared at her.

"Four days." His voice was so grim. Those were the worst four days. It had been a while since Iris lost consciousness for that long. Her health was so great recently, but now this happened again.

"Oh..." No wonder she felt so tired and hungry. "Are we in the Silver River pack already?"

"Yes."

Not long after, Grace entered the bedroom and sat down next to her. She checked her pulse and said something about how her vitality was normal but she needed a lot of rest, while Cane held Iris’ other hand, saying nothing.

He looked like a calm and cold river, but no one knew the turbulence beneath it.

===========================

"The situation in this continent is not right, we need to leave, Abby." Liam rested his hand on the hilt of his sword. He had sneaked into the Serafim’s room in the middle of the night to persuade her. "You don’t need to meet with the Alpha from the Red Claw pack. I don’t think he is trustworthy. The King is dead and from what I heard, the man on the throne is not a good person. Rumors say, he uses black magic."

"He was framed. He was the one who contacted us."

"There is no proof he did not use black magic or tried to lure us here. There must be a hidden motive."

Abby sat down on her bed, she was contemplating her next words. She knew how much Liam was worried about her. "No, Liam. We need to stay. That’s more the reason for us to stay here. We need the magic stones for our magic users. If something went wrong here, the supply for the magic stones for our people could be cut off. The magic users rely heavily on the magic stones."

And the Red Claw pack was one of the packs that provided magic stones, aside from the Howling Wolf pack.

Currently, they were in the Winter Moon pack, Alpha Nolan, the Alpha of the pack, was the first person to greet them once their ship docked. From him, they learned about what was going on in this continent and how the power had divided because of the death of the King.

They couldn’t receive any news while they were sailing. Moreover, the Holy Kingdom had never intervened with the shifters, aside from their deal of the magic stones, thus they didn’t have people in this continent to inform them about the shift of power during this period of time.

"The need is mutual, Abby. The magic stones trade between two continents will still continue," Liam emphasized this. He knew this was the excuse Abby used to intervene, though this was not the strongest reason why she wanted to stay and finish her duty, especially when black magic was involved.

As the Serafim, Abby wanted to prove herself. She had been sick for so long and her health was not that great, thus bad rumors about her started to spread that she was the weakest serafim in history. Liam knew how much it hurt her, since she had never accomplished anything.

But, this was a different problem.

"The shifters have no use of magic stones and this trade is their biggest source of income."

"It will still affect the trade," Abby said adamantly.

Liam sighed and then approached her, she had this look, whenever she was being stubborn and no one could change her mind.

"Abby, you don’t need to do this to prove yourself. You are enough. You are chosen to be the Serafim for a reason."

Abby pressed her lips into a thin line when she heard that. She knew Liam would be able to see through her. "I chose to stay and we will stay. We will meet with Alpha Colter tomorrow."

Because of the distance between the Winter Moon pack and the Red Claw pack, it would take considerable time for Alpha Colter to be able to cross the border and meet with the Serafim. He would come with his beta, Koda, who was also the great grandfather of the Crown Prince.

Unfortunately, the Red Claw pack lost the battle.
