Chapter 488: I SAW THEM

Iris was dumbstruck when she noticed so many wolf spirits emerging from the shadows of the trees. Their forms were almost translucent, though each covered by a different colored fur.

"Cane..." Iris gasped. She could feel sadness wash over her to see these wolf spirits come to her. They kept approaching her carefully, before they shifted into their human form, but still, they were still translucent and all of them seemed to be warriors, and she knew some of them. Some of them were familiar faces to her.

What was the meaning of this?

Before, Iris could only see their spirits hovering above their bodies, but what was the deal if their spirits no longer lingered around their physical bodies?

No. A thought crossed Iris’ mind, but she didn’t even want to entertain the idea. How could there be so many of them here if that was what really happened?

"What is it?" Cane was still cradling Iris and saw tears stream down her cheeks, as she started sobbing. "What happened? Why are you crying?" He tried to follow her line of sight, but all he could see was trees and bushes. Nothing interesting or particular, which could cause her to be so emotional, was in sight. "What are you staring at?"

Iris was trembling and her tears fell even more when those warriors kept approaching her, not because she was afraid of them, but more like she was afraid about what had happened to them until it caused them to be like this.

"Iris, tell me, what is it? Why are you crying?" Cane could see how Iris became even more emotional now, as her tears wouldn’t stop flowing down her beautiful face. She looked mortified, but there was deep sadness too.

Right at that time, Haco came along with the four warriors. They seemed to have survived the monster’s rampage, but they lost track of Zeke and Lady Cyan. Perhaps they too had managed to escape, though they were not sure whether they could survive the attack.

"Iris?" Cane cupped her face, he looked around one more time to make sure he didn’t miss anything, thinking his lethargic state caused him to be a little bit reckless, but even after that, he still couldn’t find a reason why Iris was a crying mess like this. "Tell me what is it? Why are you crying?"

Cane would usually wait until Iris was ready to talk, but he was being impatient now. Both of them were so drained, physically and emotionally.

"I see them, Cane, I am not sure what the meaning of this is..." Iris said through her tears.

"What do you see?" Cane looked at the spot Iris had been staring at, but he was sure he didn’t miss anything. There was nothing there.

"Their spirits," Iris said in a whispery tone.

Right at that time, Haco came with two warriors, Oliver and Eron, the former rushed toward Cane immediately once he saw the Alpha.

"Alpha Cane! I thought I made a mistake when I sensed your scent," he said in relief, but he stopped a few steps away from Cane, remembering what he had seen earlier, but still, he couldn’t stop himself. "Alpha, our pack is under attack, those royal warriors along with those from the Blue Moon pack raised a mutiny. I have sent Dean and Dyne to check the situation there."

They learned about this from Haco once they managed to escape those monsters and Oliver took the initiative to split the group into two.

On the other hand, Eron looked reluctant to approach Cane as well, he stood next to Oliver and asked Iris. "Luna, are you okay?" He could see how his luna was crying right now. Was it because of the Alpha? Did he hurt her? But it was unlikely...

It was only Haco who didn’t care much and approached Cane and Iris.

"Cane, it’s them... there are so many of them... half of your pack if I can say," Iris said through her gritted teeth, trying to make her words coherent for the Alpha to understand her. "Their spirits are here."

"What is it? What did I miss?" Haco asked busily. He looked disheveled and exhausted, also so old and fragile, as if his body would collapse at any given moment, yet his eyes were still bright. He was still vigilant.

Meanwhile, Cane didn’t say anything, he seemed to be processing what Iris tried to say and learn the situation, though his head throbbed painfully and his body demanded for him to stop thinking, or doing anything...

"You are seeing their spirits because they are dead?" Cane blurted it out. "Is that it?"

Iris grinded her teeth, she didn’t want to say it, as if by admitting that, it made things final and she couldn’t think of how many losses they had suffered in less than a day...

Haco stared at Cane and Iris back and forth, trying to understand the situation on his own, but there were missing parts that he couldn’t guess. "What is it? What spirits? What did you see?"

Cane tried his best to suppress his emotions, since Iris was already like this. "Do you see... Ethan and Jace?"

"No." Iris shook her head. The two of them were the first people she looked for among those warriors when the realization dawned on her.

Cane nodded. His face was devoid of any emotions. "Why are they here? Are they here to see you? Why?"

Iris shook her head. "I don’t know."

"Ah!" Haco finally caught up with them, while Oliver and Eron were still at a loss about the conversation. "You are seeing spirits, right?" Haco clapped his hands. "See? I told you! My guess is right!" The sorcerer looked shocked, but at the same time, he seemed satisfied for being right. "But, how could that be possible? In this case, it is either the one in the Holy Kingdom is fake or there are two of you."

"Haco, do you know what they want?" Iris stopped his rumbling.
