Chapter 458: THEY WERE LATE

"Where? What place?" Iris didn’t mind going and visiting the pack tomb again. She had expected Cane to go to that place again, but it was a pleasant surprise for Iris that Cane wanted to take her with him. And, he wanted to take her somewhere else after that?

"We will go after we entertain the King and Lady Cyan, probably it will be very late tonight, is that okay with you?" Cane caressed her cheek and smoothened her curls. Her skin and hair felt so soft and he liked the feeling.

"Absolutely," Iris replied, too eager and then cleared her throat to mumble. "Sure." She wouldn’t fall asleep tonight, no matter how tired she was. The excitement that Cane would take her somewhere would keep her awake.

"Now we need to go hunting in the mountains." As much as he didn’t want to get Iris involved, he couldn’t disobey the King’s demand outrightly, though behind that demand, it was Lady Cyan, who was pulling the strings.

That woman knew how to use her status and authority of the King to get what she wanted, but Cane was still trying to figure out what she wanted to do in the mountains.

It was not public knowledge that she was a witch.

Cane explained the situation to Iris, so she could prepare herself. "If you feel something is off, just say you are not feeling well and want to return to the pack house, understand?" Cane was very serious. The mischief in his eyes disappeared.

"Okay," Iris said obediently, nodding her head in understanding. She understood the situation with Lady Cyan and she didn’t wish to add more stress to Cane’s plate by making him worry about her.

"Good, now you need to take a bath." Cane slid his hand down from her face to her neck and was about to help Iris get undressed when she caught his hands.

"I- I will do it myself, you can wait outside." Iris could see how Cane’s eyes slightly darkened. It made the butterflies in her stomach flutter their wings. To know how much your mate desired you was something that every woman wanted.

However, if they kept going like this, Iris didn’t think she would make it to the hunting part before she made an excuse that she was sick.

"Are you sure you don’t need my help?" Cane asked, but he didn’t insist. If even Iris could read the situation, more so Cane.

His ’help’ wouldn’t be anything innocent after all.

"Yes, you can wait outside, I will come out quickly."

Cane nodded, but before he left, he took out the bottles from his pocket and gave one to Iris. It was the bottle with blue liquid in it.

"Drink this." Cane put it in her hand. "This will nourish your body. Grace made some of it, you need to drink this once a day."

Iris bit her lip, the bottle felt warm in her hand, probably because of Cane’s body heat. "Okay."

And after that, Cane left her alone in the bathroom, while Iris took a quick bath and drank the medicine. It tasted sweet, and had a minty aftertaste. She quite liked it. It warmed her body after she drank it.

When she came out, she could see the lunch prepared for her. Because they had their lunch in the dining hall, while Iris just woke up, the Alpha ordered some for her, he wouldn’t let her go hunting without eating anything.

"The King will wait for long."

"Let him wait."

Cane was being petty here. He couldn’t reject the King’s demand, but he could make things not as smooth as he wanted.

By the time Iris was done eating and they could leave to the hunting grounds, they were late for an hour and the King’s expression was very unpleasant, but Cane kept a straight face when the King reprimanded him.

"My apologies, my kind king." That was all Cane said when the King told him off for how he and the rest had been waiting under the scorching sunlight.

Once again, Iris adored her mate, how callous he could be whenever he wanted. All the sarcasm from the King didn’t even bother him.

For this hunt, not only the King, even Alpha Dristan, Sir Elijah and Oliver came as well, but Jace and Ethan were nowhere to be found.

"Where are Jace and Ethan?" Iris asked, because she couldn’t find either of them. She thought, at least, one of them would tag along. The only familiar face that she could see was Avid’s, while the rest, she met a handful of times, but she was not really close to them.

"They will not be here, Oliver will be with us," Cane explained.

With Aderan still in the capital city and Will out of the picture, Cane didn’t have his personal warriors with him and it seemed, the two of them would step up in their place for the meantime.

Cane then nudged for her to look at her left side, where she could see Eron and Dyne. The two of them went with her to the capital city and were taught by her how to read and write. Iris was glad to see both of them and Cane knew that.

"You will see them often. They will formally be assigned as your personal guards, once everything calms down a little bit," Cane said.

Currently, the two of them were sitting on the same horse, while the King and lady Cyan rode their own horses, ahead of them.

The entourage was so magnificent, the King brought more than half of his royal warriors and at this point, Iris was pessimistic they would find anything, aside a vicious monster, as the other animals or even smaller monsters wouldn’t dare to come closer to them. This was ridiculous.

"Good afternoon, Luna Iris." Alpha Dristan rode next to them with his new mistress on his lap, riding with him. "Is this your first time going hunting?"
