The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 413: HIS SOLACE
Chapter 413: HIS SOLACE
Cane didn’t know he could hate something this intensely, but then he didn’t know where to direct this hatred. Was it because the sight of Sofia had triggered something he wanted to bury and didn’t want to remember again? Or, was it how everything around him felt so suffocating?
He felt this uncontrollable anger and hatred in his heart and wanted to destroy everything around him. He wanted to kill someone, anyone, to quench his murderous desire. He wanted that person to die a miserable death, have their flesh torn bit by bit, screaming in agony, so they would understand his suffering.
He played in his mind how he would kill this faceless someone, until he felt Iris’ arms wrap around his body and cradle him in her warm embrace.
Her steady heartbeat was akin to a blanket that doused his dark side with a piece of peace that he craved. He held onto her so tightly, because he didn’t want to be the person in his head right now.
Cane didn’t want to completely lose himself in the midst of his revenge and kill someone just for his satisfaction alone. That was not the person he wanted to be.
"Iris..." Cane called her name, squeezed his eyes shut and held onto her like she was his only way to keep his conscience intact.
Meanwhile, Iris kept holding him tightly in her arms, while patting his stiff shoulders and caressing his head. She tried to ease his tension and desperately wanted to reach out for him, because she felt like he was slipping from her.
She gave him small kisses on the top of his head, just like how he used to do for her, hoping this would help him come back to her from whatever nightmare he was trapped in.
Gradually, Cane became a little bit relaxed and his breathing evened out, as he fell asleep in her arms.
He was akin to a child, who was having a bad dream, holding tightly onto the only person, who he thought could give him protection.
It was a little bit odd, since he was the strongest one between them two, yet he looked for shelter from her. His solace...
Cane finally got some peace, after all the turmoil in his head and mind that he tried to hide from the world. It took him three hours to finally wake up and by that time, it was almost time for lunch and Iris’ arms had turned numb.
"You should have laid me down," Cane said with a frown, while Iris was whimpering when he massaged her numb arms.
"It didn’t cross my mind," Iris said meekly. She didn’t want to lay him down on the bed, because she liked holding him, but she overestimated her own endurance. Cane’s body was, no doubt, heavy, but she liked his heaviness.
Cane looked helpless to hear that. "Better?" Iris nodded. "Let’s find something to eat." He glanced at the sun that was already so high. Jace and Ethan must have entertained Alpha Dristan when he did not appear for breakfast.
He caught a glimpse of the tray of food on the table when Iris moved to get some. His eyes turned violent to see it.
"Let’s find something to eat," Cane repeated what he said and pulled Iris to her feet, before she could get something from the tray.
"But, someone already brought us breakfast." She pointed to the tray.
"It’s cold already." And before Iris could protest, he pecked her lips, which conveniently silenced her, and took her hand.
============================
Aria was already close to six months, her stomach looked so big, as one could see the movement of the baby inside of her, yet her body was still slim and her cheeks were hollow. She was always wearing loose dresses, because she didn’t like the sight of her pregnant belly. She hated the thing inside of her.
She hated the baby, knowing it was not the seed of the man she loved. She loathed herself for still having these pitiful feelings toward the man that had killed herself.
Aria remembered her helpless state and how he gave her a death sentence. She remembered how the rope tightened around her neck and her desperation to catch one last glimpse of him before she left the world, leaving her bleeding heart to ache for the last time.
But then, he didn’t show up. He didn’t even want to see her for one last time. After all they had gone through, after everything she had done for him, after everything she had to endure... he didn’t even show up to see her, until she breathed her last.
"Lady, do you want me to call the master?" Letto asked. He was a young boy around the age of seventeen and was extremely loyal to Dexter, but right now, his main task was to focus on Aria.
Aria stared at him without saying anything. She hated them. She was an aggregation of hatred and bitterness, filled with hostility and the thirst for vengeance.
"Yes, tell him I need his blood." Her voice was so cold while her eyes were so red, almost the color of blood.
"Yes, yes..." Letto said with a sweet smile. "The baby should be born in around three months from now, the baby would be a healthy and a happy baby."
Healthy and happy?
Aria scoffed. Could she even call this a baby when this thing was conceived by dark magic and was carried by someone, supposed to be, dead?
Whatever it was, she wanted her revenge and if this thing called a baby could give her that, just like what Dexter told her, she would carry it to its full term.
And the baby moved in her stomach.

"What is it?" Cane asked when Iris suddenly turned around and stopped walking, as she searched for something. He also turned around, but couldn’t see anything that could catch her attention.
"Nothing." Iris rubbed her nape unconsciously. She was not sure what she felt a moment ago. It was an ominous feeling that lasted just for a brief second...
