Chapter 396: YOU TRICKED ME!
Iris frowned. Cane seemed to be in a good mood. He held her hand, as they walked toward the tunnel and looked around this vast area. He waited for her to answer her own question.
Meanwhile, people stared at them secretly, as the sight of Iris and Cane walking together peacefully was a rare sight to see. Women had never been in this area, even if they were, they were brought to fulfil the desire of the wardens.
Or recently, when they were forced to impregnate as many women as possible, as the Alpha wanted to have a lot of members in the pack. Alpha Gill thought about doubling the population of his pack because a lot of men died during this project, but he failed to think about improving the quality of their lives, since in his mind, no life was more important than his own and ironically, he lost it.
"You are planning to continue this project..." Iris mumbled to herself, contemplating the reason why Cane wanted to continue digging the tunnel that had made a lot of men meet their demise. "Why?" Iris asked herself. She looked around and then turned to the tunnel.
The warriors put down the boxes they had been carrying and as usual, they distributed food among them, but this time, they brought clean clothes as well, as the men here were only wearing ragged clothes and pants.
There was a commotion when they tried to get their hands on clean clothes and food, but Sir Elijah controlled the situation well. He ordered his men to help as well.
Hanna also helped, but Will took something from her hand and talked to her, gesturing for her to stay behind, yet Hanna looked mad and glared at him, as she snatched back the box from Will’s hand and walked away.
And here, Iris couldn’t figure out what Cane was planning to do with this tunnel. "I don’t know." Iris shook her head.
"If you can answer this, I will grant you one wish."
"It’s unfair," Iris immediately rejected it. "No one knows what is in your mind, not even your beta and your gamma."
"Aren’t you my luna?"
"But, it doesn’t mean I know more about you." Iris started to talk back to Cane. If it was in the past, she would lower her head timidly and wouldn’t dare to retort. "You never say anything about yourself."
"Fine." Cane nodded. "I will give you a clue, but if you still can’t answer this, you will grant me one wish."
Iris’ brows furrowed deeply. "Why do I feel like I will fall straight into your trap?"
Hearing that, Cane couldn’t help but laugh, which surprised all of the people there, since they only saw his serious and vicious side. After Cane executed the five alphas and put their head on the spikes, they knew him as a coldblooded alpha, but no one ever thought they would witness this side of this cruel alpha.
"Do I need to trap you?" Cane asked, oblivious of the attention gathering on them right now, but Iris seemed to be aware of it and started to feel uncomfortable to be in the center of their attention.
"No. I have been trapped with you for the rest of our lives," she mumbled.
She didn’t mean it in a bad way, but that was how it sounded in Cane’s ears, as he pinched her chin and lifted her head to meet his eyes. "You don’t like it."
All of a sudden, the playful atmosphere between them turned serious, as Cane’s laugh vanished and his eyes stared at his mate sharply.
"I never said that. Let’s be trapped and rot together, as long as I am with you, I am willing," Iris said playfully, but there was a trace of determination in her tone. "I promised to be with you, let’s see the end of it together." She promised him and also his late mate when they went to see his family and she intended to keep it.
Cane lowered his hand and all of the spectators sighed, they didn’t realize they were holding their breaths, thinking Cane would turn violent because Iris had said something wrong that could incur his anger. It was easy to assume so when they were raised while being stuffed with such ideas in their mind.
"So, what is the clue?" Iris grabbed his hand instead and Cane intertwined their fingers together, as they continued walking, leaving those people to continue looking at them weirdly behind.
"The rations for the food distribution in this pack comes from the Crystal Moon pack."
Iris nodded. "Yes, I read about that, because Crystal Moon pack is the only pack with a harbor in the south kingdom, before winter they amass grains and dry meat from the merchants, as they bring the commodities on ship from Karam continent."
Iris stopped talking and blinked her eyes, as if something crossed her mind, but then...
Cane smiled at her explanation and could see she was so close to realizing the answer, but when she stopped talking and tried to rearrange her theory in her mind, he leaned over and kissed her cheek. "Continue," he whispered, until only his warm breath was all Iris could notice.
Iris blushed when Cane suddenly kissed her. He had been very weird lately with his sudden displays of affection in front of so many people.
"And... mmh..." Iris forgot what she was going to say! Ugh! What was it?! "That’s... uhm..."
"I want the harbor. It will be helpful during the next winter, so there is no need for us to go to the black market again." It would save them a lot of effort, time and energy if they could build the tunnel and he got his hands on the deal between the Crystal Moon pack and the merchants from the Karam continent.
"Ah! I am going to say that!" Iris was fuming. She stopped walking and glared at Cane, but the Alpha was as calm as ever. "You tricked me!"
"In what way did I trick you?"
"You..." Iris stopped herself. "...Kissed me." Her voice trailed off.
"Hm?" Cane tilted his head. "How can you count that as me playing a trick?"
