The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 376: TALK TO ME
Chapter 376: TALK TO ME
Cane was floored, this was the first time for Iris to blatantly ignore him. She looked very angry as she tried to suppress her feelings, which he understood why. Her misdirected anger.
Iris was there and she understood what was going on and knew the truth that the baby was absolutely not his.
"Iris," Cane called her name, clearly knowing she wouldn’t be able to hear it, as he squeezed and tugged her hands to get her attention.
"Where do you want to go?" Jace asked, he knocked on the carriage door, as he sat down beside Redmond, who looked like he just lost his soul. Fatherhood was absolutely not in his plans in the near future and the Beta couldn’t get anything out of him.
In his frustration, Jace really wished for Ethan to speed up, so he could get a full story on what was going on! This whole thing was driving him crazy! The way Cane treated Iris and how she was right now and what more hell with a pregnant woman going to their pack and claiming she was having Cane’s baby, while in truth it was Redmond’s?!
"Pack house," Cane said.
Jace then took the reins, because Redmond was in no way near taking them anywhere.
Meanwhile, inside the carriage, it was very quiet, just like their journey to the fortress, but it was not the same silence. The atmosphere felt heavier than before and Iris looked so angry, though she had her eyes closed.
The Alpha, on the other hand, didn’t try to make her talk to him again as she didn’t want to, but somehow, he felt uncomfortable with this quiet Iris. He was used to listening to what she was thinking and communicating her feelings, thus the silence sounded louder than her cries and screams.
The whole two hours of their journey back to the pack house, Iris pretended to be asleep, but there must be a point where she fell asleep for real, because her breathing became even and her expression softened slightly, though there was still a furrow between her brows.
Once the carriage stopped, Cane didn’t immediately wake her up. He ordered Jace to get him all the secret missives he had to read, he also told them to report everything to him through the window of the carriage. Because of Iris’ condition, it wouldn’t be a problem for them to be a little bit noisy. It wouldn’t disturb her sleep.
From what Cane learned, the rumors had spread in the capital city in the way he wanted and the Holy Kingdom had sent a letter to the King, informing him they were coming to deal with the problem of black magic.
The current Serafim would come as well along with her Holy Knights. It would take them a month to reach Ogregon Continent through the sea, which meant, probably, they would be here by the end of spring.
Everything went according to Cane’s plan, though there were a few little hiccups here and there, but overall, his chess pieces moved in the directions he intended them to take.
Ethan and the people from the Red Claw pack, who were now marching to the Riverside pack, must have heard about the news as well and they would be here in three days. There was a little bit of delay because of the monster attack, thankfully, none of the warriors from the Howling Wolf pack was injured.
For now, Cane only needed to wait for the right time to make his next move, but while waiting, he must think of a way to deal with the pregnant woman in his pack, as his pack members thought she was carrying his child.
Cane glanced at the sleeping Iris and moved to sit down next to her, as he cradled her face and let her lean against his chest, putting his hand around her shoulders, while he read another letter. It was from Lou. The merchant said he would be out of the capital city within this week and head toward the Howling Wolf pack.
Cane narrowed his eyes to read his cursive handwriting and felt irritated to see it. He tossed the letter aside, as he mindlessly drew circles on Iris’ arm and moved onto another letter.
When the sun almost set and Cane was almost done with all the reports he received and orders he gave to his people to deal with the aftermath of his bold move, Iris finally woke up, she rubbed her sleepy face and yawned. She looked sleepy and seemingly forgot that she was mad at Cane before she fell asleep, for whatever reason she came up with.
"Hungry?" Cane asked after she looked around her before turning to him. She frowned when she realized they were inside the carriage.
All the braziers and torches had been lit up and the luminous pearls illuminated every dark corner of the building before them.
Iris blinked her eyes, frowning and Cane could see how her mind started to get a grip of what was happening, as she started to remember about her anger. Iris glared at him and jumped out of the carriage, ignoring him.
Cane couldn’t understand why she was so angry, though she knew the truth. Hell, he had never touched that woman and absolutely the baby was not his!
"Iris!" Cane got off the carriage and held her hand, he pulled her back, so she could face him. He was not used to her silence. He had seen her chatter nonstop, her cries, her frustration and heard her screaming in agony. He was used to hearing what was in her mind, but he couldn’t stand her ignoring him. "What’s wrong?"
Iris gritted her teeth, she didn’t cry, but her eyes turned so red. She refused to speak.
Meanwhile, Jace dragged Redmond away, so the two of them would be able to have a private moment to talk about whatever problem they had right now, while the warrior frowned, but he let the Beta take him away.
If it was Ethan, the gamma would definitely stay...
"Talk to me," Cane demanded.
