The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 355: I SWEAR, I DONT LIE!

Chapter 355: I SWEAR, I DONT LIE!

Iris had never seen something like this before, nor did she have any idea the little lizard had an ability to disappear and appear again in different media of flames.

"How did you do that?" Iris was dumbstruck to see the little lizard in the young man’s hands.

The young boy smiled innocently and dropped the little lizard back in her hands, as he waited with expectant eyes. His green eyes looked so beautiful under the sunlight that streamed in through the window.

Iris received the little lizard and the creature curled its body on her joined palms, making small noises, as it nuzzled her thumb before closing its eyes.

"Who are you?" Iris narrowed her eyes. She didn’t feel this young man was dangerous, but their whereabouts must be kept secret. Even one word of them being out here would cause trouble for Cane’s entire plan and that was the last thing Iris wanted.

Albeit her not being clear with his whole plan, she at least knew not to divulge their location to anybody.

The young boy with golden hair only shook his head. He looked at her sadly and pointed his finger at Iris, which only made her confused further.

"What do you want to say?" Iris frowned while the little lizard in her hands had long fallen asleep, purring like a kitty. "Who are you?"

For the same question Iris asked him, he made the same gesture; pointing his finger at Iris.

"I don’t understand, why don’t you talk?" Iris forgot her fear a moment ago and took a step closer toward him. She remembered the last time they met, he talked to her, but why was he refusing to talk now?

Once again, he looked at her sorrowfully and shook his head, but then, his body stiffened. He looked toward the door before he turned around. He wanted to leave, as if he sensed something.

"No! Don’t go! Wait!" Iris grabbed his arm and was slightly surprised. She knew this man was lean, but not so thin. It almost felt like holding the arm of a child.

And everything happened so fast.

Cane entered the room with Jace behind him, he looked furious because he smelled another scent from inside the room and at the same time, the young man twisted his arm out of Iris’ grip, as he turned around and leapt from the window.

"Get him," Cane said coldly to his beta and Jace immediately shifted into his beast. He leapt from the window as well to chase after the man, while Cane grabbed Iris’ arm and turned her body around to get her attention. "What is this?" he asked grimly.

Iris was stunned to see Cane there, but then she immediately explained everything. She was afraid he would think it was her who invited the man to come. She didn’t want to be under Cane’s suspicion, because she had seen how devious he was always toward his enemies. She didn’t want to be on his bad side. Moreover, she didn’t want to lose the little trust she had gained from him.

"Oh, and look at this!" Iris tugged Cane’s sleeve to come closer to the fireplace and tossed the poor sleeping lizard into the flames. The little creature’s eyes widened when its body flew into the fire, as it let out a squeaking noise. "Come here, look!"

This time, Iris tugged Cane’s sleeve again so he would follow her to the brazier. She looked a little bit panicky in her attempt to explain herself to Cane, while the Alpha slightly furrowed his brows, trying to figure out what his mate was trying to do.

"Here, see this!" Iris pointed her finger at the brazier, but nothing happened.

"What should I see?" Cane asked and Iris felt even more panicked when the lizard didn’t appear from the brazier, she pulled at her hair in distress.

"The lizard should appear there. I swear. I didn’t lie to you!" Iris turned her head to look at Cane, she was about to cry. "I didn’t lie. I swear!"

Iris always had this fear of being called a liar, since that was what Mason always told her; a liar and an attention seeking woman. It got deeply engraved in her mind. Especially when Cane didn’t say anything, with his eyes still fixed on the brazier.

"That man did the same and the lizard will appear from the brazier," Iris explained it again hastily. "I didn’t lie."

"Iris." Cane grabbed her hand that kept tugging at her hair relentlessly. He put his other hand on the back of her head, as he moved his thumb in circle motions in order to soothe her anxiety. "Tell me slowly."

Iris started to explain it again and this time, she was a little bit calmer than before, as she told him all the details she failed to mention earlier.

Cane looked at the fireplace, but he was sure the lizard didn’t come out from there. It could be said the creature had died and turned into ashes by now, but then there was no way the lizard didn’t struggle first before it was burned to death. When Iris tossed the creature, it vanished, once the flames swallowed it.

"So, he lit up the brazier?" Cane muttered to himself and then moved away from Iris to put off the brazier, before he lit it up again and there.... The little lizard scrambled out of the flames, shaking its small body, as it was doused in water instead of fire.

"Ah! There!" Iris immediately rushed forward, as she wanted to get the lizard, but Cane beat her to it, he felt its body and only when he thought it was safe did he hand it over to Iris.

"He showed you this?" Cane narrowed his eyes.

He smelled someone else’s scent from inside the room when he was halfway here and immediately rushed inside to see that young man and Iris standing together.

"Yes." Iris nodded immediately. "Oh, he was also the man who appeared inside my bedroom when we were in the black market. Do you remember when you rushed inside the room and smelled someone else’s scent?"

Cane absolutely remembered that. So, it was not the first encounter between Iris and that mysterious man. But, what was his motive and intention? He became alert at this anomaly. Someone was trying to make a connection with his mate and he didn’t have any idea at all. Was it from the royal family? The people from the Blue Moon pack that were still on the run, since his men were still chasing them down? What was this situation?

Cane hated it when something was out of his control and he was clueless regarding the matter.

"I don’t know him, I am not lying..." Iris said, fiddling with her fingers nervously, seeing how serious Cane’s expression was, it made her feel unwell.

Cane then shifted his attention toward his mate and caressed her rosy cheek before kissing the tip of her nose. "I know."

At the same time, Jace returned and caught the scene. The Beta shifted into his human form and stared at Iris with a complicated look in his eyes. This was the first time after months they met again.
