The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 308: RETURN THE FAVOR

Chapter 308: RETURN THE FAVOR

Once Cane arrived inside the room, he saw how Hanna was squatting down beside the bed, trying to talk to Iris, who was hiding under the bed.

"Get out."

Hanna was startled, she immediately straightened herself, ready to plead with the Alpha. In her mind, she was sure Cane would punish her missy for whatever thing that transpired between the two of them.

She still couldn’t figure out how the situation had escalated so fast and took such a horrible turn. Less than two days earlier, the Alpha had still been so attentive toward his mate. He even stayed up all night to make sure Iris was alright because her allergy flared up, but why did he look like he was going to kill someone?

"Please, Alpha... don’t hurt her..." Hanna begged Cane, she clasped her hands in front of her chest, begging him sincerely, while Ethan, who was standing beside Cane looked confused with the whole situation.

He didn’t have any idea what was actually happening here and why Hanna was crying, begging the Alpha for forgiveness.

"Take her away!" Cane said sternly.

Being left with no other choice, Ethan stepped forward and took Hanna out of the room, while she struggled in his grip, trying to talk to Cane, but the Alpha didn’t even spare her a glance before Ethan dragged her out.

Once the door was closed, he still could hear how Hanna fought with Ethan, trying to get her way back into the bedroom, but the Gamma was bound to oblige an order from the Alpha and couldn’t let her in.

Cane tuned out the noises from outside easily, and immediately he could hear how Iris sobbed softly under the bed. He knelt down and saw her in a curling position, she hugged herself, while crying.

Carefully, Cane pushed away the bed, making sure it wouldn’t hurt his mate in the process and when he could finally reach out to his mate, he pulled her into his arms, but she struggled, trying to fight him, but he didn’t let her go.

Her eyes were shut, while tears streamed down her face. She wouldn’t stop mumbling incoherently.

Cane leaned over, trying to figure out what she was saying and the words came out of her mouth repeatedly were;

’I don’t want to play anymore. I don’t want to play anymore. I don’t want to play anymore.’

After that, Iris was sick for almost two weeks, her body literally burned, but she wouldn’t stop trembling, feeling cold, while sweating profusely. Countless healers were called, but because of her unique constitution, healing magic didn’t really work on her.

On a rare occasion when she woke up, she would cry and say something like;

’I don’t like this game.’

’I don’t want to play.’

’Don’t touch me.’

’I don’t want to touch you...’

Hanna stayed by her side most of the time when Cane was away because the storm that the Alpha had planned was currently brewing inside the palace finally, as the tension and pressure were so thick, especially after the pressure from the Red Claw pack. Their alpha arrived two days ago and they demanded the King to solve the problem as soon as possible, or they wouldn’t give any magic stones from their mines, they would stop sending them the precious magic stones.

And if that happened, it would hit the economy so hard, as the main income of this kingdom came from the trading of the magic stones.

Even a king wouldn’t be a king anymore without the power of money to feed his people.

"The Red Claw pack will be declaring war if they really decided to see through their threat!" King Aeon slammed his hands against the armchair, while his subjects had their heads down.

Currently, there were five people inside the strategy room, aside from the King himself.

Because of the pressure and currently bad relation between the royal family and the Red Claw pack, Lori, the representative of that pack, had been dismissed from this meeting and in his chair, Cane was sitting with the other right hand men of the King.

"They can’t do that, it’s part of their tax toward the crown!" Jeremiah said brusquely, it could be said, he was one of the few people who would be very enthusiastic if a war between the royal and the Red Claw pack broke out, because being from the neighboring pack, he could take this opportunity to swallow the richest pack in the whole kingdom.

This kind of pattern was similar to what happened between the Blue Moon pack and the Howling Wolf pack. Anyone would salivate over having control on the Red Claw pack’s mines.

It was so pathetic how fast these people turned their backs to their fellow king’s right hand man when personal interests got mixed up in the conflict.

They showed their true colors and intentions in the face of an opportunity to gain power.

Jeremiah was the most blatant one out of the other three, while Kade, the representative from the Celestial Moon pack, didn’t seem interested in the topic. This morning, he received news from his pack that there was another monster attack and that more people died during the battle.

He had been begging the King to send more warriors to help, but the current situation in the capital city was his main excuse for him to tell Kade to wait. He was not pleased.

While Cane was still trying to feel out where the other two stood in this matter.

The meeting lasted for more than three hours and during that time, Cane and Kade were the quiet ones. They didn’t say a word if it was not necessary, as they watched how those people tried to suggest a solution or two to the King.

In the end, no solid decision was made.

Cane immediately left the strategy room to go back to see his mate before he went to meet with Haco secretly.

However, on his way back, he met with Prince Kellan. The same warrior was pushing his wheelchair and he smiled so brightly, like the sun in the early summer. So bright and hurting your eyes.

Cane smiled back at him.

"Alpha Cane, finally, I can meet with you again." Kellan approached Cane in his wheelchair. "The children in the orphanage really enjoyed the company of your men."

Cane sent half of his warriors to the orphanage to stay with the kids under the pretext they could help with the construction.

"I am glad they could behave in front of the children."

Kellan laughed and Cane smiled. It was a beautiful picture to see two powerful men getting along well, or so it looked like.

"I want to thank you for the wine you gave me the other day, it tastes so good, it’s one of my favorites. I drink it every night before I sleep and just like you said, it helps me to sleep faster. How can I get more of it?"

"Just tell me if you are running out of it, I will send you more."

"Oh, I can’t do that."

"You don’t need to be polite with me, My Prince. You have helped me a lot with the citizens. I am someone, who will not forget to pay my gratitude, nor will I ever forget someone’s debt. Even on their deathbeds, I will make sure to return the favor."
