Chapter 301: BEAR MEAT

The conversation lasted until evening, Cane and Koda even skipped lunch, therefore, Iris was also still in the orphanage because Cane didn’t give an instruction for her to leave alone.

When they finally ended the conversation, the sky had already turned so dark because the sun set faster in winter. All the dark corners of the building were being illuminated by the fire from the braziers and the luminous pearls.

However, in the yard, you could hear the sound of children still playing. It was not well into night yet and they were still full of vigor.

Their joyfulness intrigued Cane to go closer and find out what they were laughing about, but a little child ran toward him and almost bumped into him if it were not for him stopping this little girl in time.

"I am sorry," the little girl said. She was around the age of seven. She looked scared, terrified Cane would get angry at her.

"It’s okay..." Cane said lightly, as he patted her head. "Why are you here?" There were no children aside from this kid around this area, though this place was safe, it would be better if she did not roam around alone.

The little girl’s face lit up as she spoke. "There is a huuuge bear there!" She stretched her arms to show how big the creature was. "We wanted to feed it, but my friend said bears usually eat meat, so I’m going to get meat!" She said excitedly.

"Huge bear?" Cane furrowed his brows. Wasn’t it dangerous to let a bear inside an orphanage full of children? "Where is it?" He didn’t express his agitation, but how could no one notice a huge bear in this area?

"Here, over here!" The little girl jumped up and down, as she held Cane’s hand to lead him toward the huge bear they found. "The bear is white! As white as snow!" She chirped, excited.

"White bear?" Cane had only ever encountered one white bear and he didn’t wish to see that lazy creature again, especially the owner of it. It was a long day, the hard conversation with Koda left him in no mood to do anything else, aside from wanting to meet with his mate.

"Yes, yes!" The girl was running now, as Cane followed her. Her little hand was so small in his. "Over here! Over here! There!"

She then pointed her finger at the creature.

Only, Cane found something that made his whole body exude killing intent, as his gaze stopped on the white bear.

In the middle of the yard, he saw the lazy ass white bear, sprawled with his muzzle facing the snow covered ground, while the children climbed on its big body, laughing happily, yet the creature was too lazy to even shake them off.

Was it dead?

At this point, it looked more like an overgrown puppy instead of a beast!

But, if this dummy creature was here, he must be here too!

Lou. The merchant, or should Cane say a sorcerer?

He was one among the long list of people he didn’t want to meet, the sight of his pet alone was already irritating enough. He would like to kick the creature along with the owner if it was not because of the fact there were children around.

On the other hand, the little girl beside Cane started sobbing when she felt the ominous aura radiating from the Alpha. She was scared of him and this snapped him back to press down his dissatisfaction.

"The bear doesn’t eat meat," Cane said, as he ruffled her hair, so she would stop tearing up. This time, he looked at her warmly. "The bear is hibernating now, that’s why it’s sleeping."

The girl blinked her eyes. "What is hibernating?"

Cane smiled softly. "Where is your big sister?"

Big sister was how these children called the women that took care of them while they were in the orphanage and after Cane talked to one of them and made sure the children wouldn’t climb on top of the bear again, as he didn’t know how the bear would react, he left them to find his mate.

It was not hard to find Iris, since he could easily pick up her scent, though the traces of it were very faint in this cold weather.

Cane soon found Iris talking to Lou, while Hanna stood by her side. The maid looked dissatisfied, as she glared daggers at the merchant.

However, it was Iris, who ran toward Cane first when she saw him walking closer. She literally ran toward him, but the thing that made Cane frown was the sight of a bucket of yellow flowers in her hands.

"Cane!" Iris called his name, as she stopped in front of him, yet the Alpha was busy staring at the merchant, who was waving his hand innocently before approaching them, while Hanna immediately retreated seeing that the Alpha was already here.

Even so, Hanna still hung around to hear how their conversation went.

"Alpha Cane, long time no see," Lou said cheerfully, he grinned at him harmlessly. "I have been looking for you, but you have not returned to the palace in days, so I decided to come here once I heard you are in this orphanage with Prince Kellan." Lou then added with a trace of mocking tone. "You are so busy, aren’t you?"

But, Cane ignored his jab and looked down at the bucket of yellow flowers in Iris’ hand. He snatched it from Iris’ hand. "Who gave this to you?"

"Sir Lou gave it to me," Iris replied, as she stood close to Cane, which highlighted their significant height difference. The tip of her head didn’t even reach his chin.

Hearing that, Cane handed the poor yellow flowers back to its owner callously.

Lou had a hard time making Iris accept the flowers, but now they were handed back to him. "These are rare flowers and I..." But, before he could speak more, Cane had beat him to it.

"She is allergic," Cane said simply. He found another variation of excuse aside from ’she is sick’.

Not too far from them, Hanna covered her mouth, so she wouldn’t make any noise when she couldn’t help laughing after hearing such a petty excuse. She didn’t remember her missy having an allergy to any flowers.

"What is it? Why are you hiding here?" Ethan and Trion came over when they saw Hanna hiding in the bushes.

"Get down!" Hanna said sternly, as she put her finger in front of her lips, indicating for them to keep quiet.

Docilely, the two of them squatted down on her left and right before following Hanna’s line of sight and watched the entire turn of events. At the same time, Hanna gave them a little bit of rundown of what had happened.

There, they watched how Cane turned Lou speechless, as he held the flowers, not long after, the two of them walked away after the Alpha told the merchant to wait in one of the rooms if he wanted to have any discussion about the magical devices.

However, just like its owner, the pet also seemed to love annoying Cane, as the lazy white bear waddled toward Iris happily when they were about to leave.

"Heavens, the Alpha would love to have bear meat for dinner at this rate," Trion stated when he saw how dark Cane’s expression turned.
