Chapter 257: DAMN YOU, CANE! (3)

"You said it yourself. It is a great deal for me, so why should I refuse it?" Cane snickered disdainfully to see Lou’s façade slip for a brief second before he regained his composure and acted unbothered.

"Great!" Lou clapped his hands, as if he were very happy with the deal. "I will give you the onceover about it later and we will have another discussion about it."

"Okay," Cane said lightly and stood up. "If there is nothing more, I will take my leave." He kept the conversation with Lou as short as possible and didn’t waste a second to be there.

And what was even worse was the part when Cane left even before Lou could give him a reply. The merchant was too shocked and angry.

He had said what he wanted as the price for saving his mate; he wanted permission to expand his business in his pack and Cane gave it, so there was nothing more that they needed to talk about. As for the details, Cane could let someone handle it for him, they didn’t need to meet in person, exchanging letters would be sufficient.

"Damn it! Damn it! Damn you, Cane!" Lou roared in frustration and anger. He had been a merchant for years and even struck a deal with the King, but why did he feel like he lost a business when he actually got what he wanted?!

This alpha irked him to no end!

The only comforting thing that could slightly calm him down was the fact that he would have more chances to see Iris. After all, she was the Luna of the Blue Moon pack.

"Master, you need to calm your anger..." Sabian was afraid Lou would exhaust himself again, after all, they were running out of magic stones in order to regain his vitality back after the portal was hardly able to be closed.

"Scram!"

Facing Lou’s wrath, Sabian scurried away. He took all the servants and guards with him.

"Alpha?" Hanna was surprised to see Cane when she came over to bring Iris’ dinner.

Since they came to the palace, Iris always preferred to have her meal brought to her chamber. The dining hall was overwhelming to her, as there were so many people there. She was comfortable with none of them and most of them, she didn’t even know personally.

"She will have dinner with me," Cane replied lightly, to which Hanna nodded respectfully and then retreated.

Cane then opened the door and found Iris sitting near the window with a book in her hands. She was reading something, most likely a book about all the packs in this continent. She liked that topic recently and he noticed that.

"Hanna?" Iris’ eyes lit up when she felt someone enter the room, because it was time for dinner and she was hungry.

The ceremony for her and Cane probably would be postponed, because the situation right now was still not stable yet.

However, she was surprised to see it was actually Cane that came over. This was the first time they met after what happened.

"Oh, Alpha..." Iris immediately stood up and closed the book. It was not usual for him to come see her at this hour, unless he needed something.

"Put on your warm clothes, have dinner with me." Cane sat down on the sofa and closed his eyes. He felt so tired.

Iris immediately went to her wardrobe and put on warm clothes and a cloak, it was so cold! It had been snowing since yesterday.

"I am ready," Iris said, as she nudged Cane’s arm to get his attention.

The Alpha opened his eyes and then stood up, he took her hand and both of them walked out of the bedroom toward the dining hall.

Iris didn’t know since when it actually happened, but Cane developed this habit of holding her hand or putting his arm around her waist like he did right now whenever they went out together and slowed down his pace, so she did not need to run after him. She knew it was not his normal pace, because those shifters tended to walk faster.

Cane didn’t mind if she snuggled closer to him whenever it was too cold for her either, since his body was so warm.

Iris would look at his expression every time she stepped closer, afraid he would be uncomfortable, but when he didn’t show any reaction, she would nestle contently beside him.

The dinner went uneventful. The King was too busy and had his dinner in his bedroom.

While Cane chatted with the King’s right hand men, as he kept placing more and more food on his mate’s plate, Iris was chatting with Laluna reluctantly, as the Princess kept secretly glancing at Cane.

Laluna was not the only woman that paid close attention to her mate as Nala did the same thing from across the room. The woman sat down at the second long table, and this irritated Iris. It rubbed her in the wrong way.

Therefore, she looked a little bit cheerful when they finally finished with dinner and walked back to their bedroom, as Iris made a promise that she would have evening tea with Laluna two days later.

She accepted that reluctantly out of politeness, but made sure Cane was not available at that time, because she read his conversation with the other right hand men that they would have another meeting with the King around that time.

"This is not the way to our bedroom," Iris said, finally noticing they took a different path. She squeezed Cane’s hand that held hers. "Do you want to go somewhere?" She remembered how they went out of the palace sneakily.

"Just to the garden," Cane replied. "What?" He asked when he saw a furrow between her brows.

"Cold." There were no braziers in the garden and it was snowing.

Cane let go of her hand, but he wrapped her inside his cloak, keeping her warm. "Walk with me."

"Okay," Iris replied without a second thought.
