Chapter 256: DAMN YOU, CANE! (2)
"Damn you, Cane!" Lou bristled when he heard that. He got off the bed immediately, his expression unusually dark, as he stormed toward the garden, where Cane had been waiting for him. However, his expression changed in a split second before he met with the Alpha as he greeted him politely and remorsefully for making him wait. The hypocrisy was so thick coming from him.
"I am sorry for making you wait this long," Lou said cheerfully, in his usual self. "You seem to be in a hurry, though you just arrived five minutes ago."
He spoke about it so lightly, as if he didn’t have the intention to make him wait for hours if he could.
However, Cane could see through his façade and replied to him simply. "The situation inside the palace is still not stable and the people in the capital are still panicking, grieving and afraid. There are a lot of things to take care of."
Annoyance flitted past Lou’s eyes, but it vanished before Cane noticed it. What the Alpha said painted the merchant as someone that was too idle and willing to be ignorant in this chaotic situation, since he had a lot of free time.
Damn! Lou was also there, in the morning court, with the King, alright! It was not only Cane who was busy!
"Yes, it is a difficult situation," Lou said lightly, still sounding cheerful, as if he didn’t get bothered with Cane’s jab. "Serve tea!" He said to the servant.
However, Cane raised his hand to reject that. "Let’s skip tea and get down to business, what do you want?" He didn’t have all day to accompany Lou. He barely wanted to spend another second here.
If it was not for the fact that this merchant had indeed saved his mate’s life, he wouldn’t be here at all, dealing with his antics. It was such a waste of his time.
"Oh, come on, you won’t turn my offer down, right?" Lou furrowed his brows, he looked disappointed. "I invited you for an evening tea."
"I still have something to discuss with the King. I only have five more minutes. If you had come earlier, it would have been possible, but since you are late, I don’t have much time for such leisure."
Sabian, who was standing a few steps away from Lou, felt his heart lurch to his stomach when he heard the Alpha’s sarcastic words. Not only did he insult his master in such a delicate way, but he also blurted out the King’s name in the same breath, which effectively left Lou tongue- tied. He couldn’t retort.
The Alpha even gave a time limit for the merchant to speak.
There was no way he would be able to hold Cane back if he brought up the King’s matter here, because if he did that, it would imply his matter was way more important than the King’s.
Lou felt like he was about to flip the table or pour the hot water on his face.
However, he was way better than that to lose control of his own emotions. In the end, he smiled at Cane and spoke again lightly, as if it didn’t bother him at all.
"Okay, I understand. My apologies for my tardiness earlier," he said wisely.
"So, what do you want?"
Lou gritted his teeth, but he kept his smile in place. He had seen how easily Cane could provoke the Crown Prince, he didn’t even seem to exert much effort and now, Lou could feel how annoying the Alpha could be. He was barely able to control his own anger.
Facing him a little bit longer than this, he would lose all of his patience and make a fool of himself like Alan did.
"I want to offer the same thing that I offered to the King."
"Magical devices?" Cane didn’t expect this at all. He thought this merchant would come up with a ridiculous idea like spending one on one time with his mate, which was his previous demand, but he actually wanted to have more chances to see Iris. He looked at him disdainfully.
"Yes. The area that falls under your two packs is a bit dangerous, surrounded by Goffa mountain, where the monsters will appear so frequently, thus I want to venture my business there."
The magical devices that Lou offered were of protection type, where they would be able to protect a large area and repel any monsters that would come closer.
Right now, his progress in closing the deal with the King looked so promising, thanks to the two monster attacks that happened within a day and the panic that spread in the capital city among the people.
It would help the King gain the people’s trust to have a concrete action following the incident and now, Lou wanted to expand his business to another pack as well.
It would be Cane’s honor to have his pack become the second place that would be installed with Luo’s new devices after the capital city.
"It actually benefits you more." Lou shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly, as if he saw this as an act of charity for Cane. "I saved your mate and now I am going to save your people too. This is a good deal for you, a great one if I can say."
Lou was still holding a grudge for Cane’s sarcastic statements earlier, thus he tried to make things even between them, at least, he wouldn’t be too embarrassed after receiving the insulting words that the Alpha threw at him.
However, Lou couldn’t be any more wrong, because Cane didn’t seem to be affected by that at all. How could one get the satisfaction of insulting someone, when the other person didn’t even feel like they were being insulted?
"Okay, you can start from the Blue Moon pack first, because the last attack of the monsters happened there." Cane nodded. "When will you start?"
Lou’s jaw dropped. "You accepted it?" Why was it so easy? He had prepared himself for a long argument, but Cane accepted it so easily? And why did he feel like he was working for him instead?
"You said it yourself that it is a great deal for me, so why should I refuse it?"
