Chapter 212: THE ALPHA FEIGNED IGNORANCE

King Aeon had purposefully neglected the issue with the dark magic, though the rumors about it had spread across the continent and this sent a wave of fear among the people. He simply pretended it didn’t happen, which was expected of him, since Cane had his own suspicions that the King was behind it all.

There was no way Alpha Gill dared to act so boldly until he fostered a dark sorcerer without a common goal between them.

Alpha Gill’s aspiration was not that high and he didn’t have any ambition that included dark magic and put his whole pack in jeopardy by engaging in such taboo things.

However, it was a different matter completely if you take the King into consideration.

"My King, you are wise and fair. I have punished the people that touched dark magic. Isn’t it only right to call Alpha Gill from Riverside to question the activities of dark magic in his pack? I heard many rumors about it on my way here."

He mentioned the execution of Aria callously, as if it was nothing. He looked straight into the King’s eyes and saw how those eyes flickered at the mention of the people that he had punished.

His guess was right after all, the spy that he planted in his pack had sent a word about it to him. The only thing that was left was to figure out who that person was.

It vexed Cane to no end to foster an enemy spy and he didn’t have enough time to look into the matter thoroughly, because he needed to be away from the pack often.

"May the King hear the voice of his subjects and uphold justice," Cane spoke so smoothly, outsiders might think he was very concerned about the furor of the public upon hearing about black magic, but the truth was; he was going to downplay the matter about Ethan’s offense against the Crown Prince.

However, Cane didn’t stop there. He dared to go a bit more overboard now, because the King was still able to stay calm. He wanted to make a ripple in the calm waters.

After all, the Alpha came here not to hand his gamma over, but to cause trouble for the King.

"If the rumors are left to spread without any response from the King, I am afraid people from the Holy Kingdom will hear about it."

"Presumptuous!" King Aeon slammed his hand against the armrest again impatiently, as he stood up in anger.

Anything about the Holy Kingdom was a sour spot for the King, because he had tried to put boundaries against them for years. He kept them at arm’s length because they could interfere with his reign.

If the rumors about the black magic user in his continent reached their ears, it could make them come and do an investigation, which would only give him additional headache and trouble. More so, the last thing that he wanted was having people from the Holy Kingdom come dig deeper into the appearance of dark magic.

Cane knew about that. He waited for all of this information to come to him to deal with the King the best way, so he could get his gamma out of the death sentence, which most likely would hover above his head, knowing how the Crown Prince held a grudge so well.

"I just stated the facts, My King, pardon me for my boldness, but I am very concerned about the rumors that have been spreading around." Cane lowered his head and acted docile.

On the other hand, as Lou watched everything unfold, his eyes grew interested in Cane and he was curious what the end goal of the Alpha was, yet he didn’t forget about the existence of Iris as well. This pair of alpha and luna piqued his curiosity now.

Hunkered down behind them, Ethan was very quiet as he listened to the exchange between the Alpha and the King. He seemed to know what Cane was up to and his smile disappeared. He no longer looked as carefree as before, as his whole demeanor became stout.

"You don’t need to concern yourself about the state of this kingdom," King Aeon said begrudgingly. He looked so haughty, as he tried to regain his composure. "I summoned you here to question the actions of your gamma!" The King countered Cane with the main reason he was here. He wanted to divert everyone’s attention from the dark magic user.

Enmity flashed in Cane’s eyes for a few seconds, but when he raised his head again, it vanished, as his expression returned to his usual calm one; unable to read.

Beside the King, Alan smirked smugly, he had been waiting for this moment.

"An action of harm to the royal family can be counted as treason!" King Aeon’s voice boomed inside the main hall, he took the momentum to shift people’s attention from dark magic, because he knew his council would start pestering him about this issue, now that Cane had brought it up in front of them.

"I want his head on the spike!" Alan roared heatedly, as he stood up from his seat. "I almost died because of him!"

Iris became restless when she read what they said and glanced at Ethan behind her, but she couldn’t gauge his expression. He still had his head down as the guard continued forcing him to bow.

Meanwhile, Cane looked as calm as before, the accusation didn’t ruffle him at all and for the first time in her life, Iris really wished that she could read his mind and what he was thinking to get Ethan out of this mess.

"May I know what my gamma has done wrong?" Cane asked innocently, as if he didn’t understand why Ethan was being punished, despite knowing the whole story.

"You are still asking!?" Alan was furious now to see how Cane feigned ignorance and wasted everyone’s time by asking that stupid question.

"I am asking because I truly don’t understand," Cane replied and this was the first time for him to acknowledge the existence of the Crown Prince.
