Chapter 779: Little Girl, Do You Think You Can Humiliate Me?!
Zhang Dan didn’t get angry. He admitted, he was shameless.
"Force him to take it!" Zhang Dan threatened the couple.
The man, who had briefly held onto a glimmer of hope, now faced the harsh reality. He looked at his son’s lifeless body with tears in his eyes, then resolutely prepared to push the pill into Shandu’s mouth.
Shandu had no other choice. If he didn’t take the medicine, the couple would die here with him. He had already involved their son in this mess; he couldn’t let them die as well. The pill was a precious healing medicine that could treat his internal injuries and relieve his pain, but in that moment, it felt like a burden, a torment. His heart was filled with agony as he knew it was a medicine meant for his own survival, yet he couldn’t bring himself to swallow it.
At that moment, he saw the young boy’s spirit floating upward. Tears instantly streamed down Shandu’s face as guilt overwhelmed him.
The boy, now only a spirit, spoke softly, "Master Shandu, my life was saved by you. I do not regret it. Please, do not blame yourself."
"I’m sorry... I’m so sorry..." Shandu muttered, his head hanging low. "You died because of me, and I have accumulated so much karmic debt, it’s impossible to cleanse!"
Zhang Dan knew that monks like Shandu could see spirits due to their Buddhist eye. He had suffered humiliation from Sima Xin earlier and now saw a chance to toy with Shandu.
"Yes, your karmic debts are far from over," Zhang Dan said, waving his sleeve. Two streams of spiritual power shot toward the couple.
Shandu was horrified. Were these people even human?
The couple screamed in fear. The boy, now just a spirit, could do nothing to stop them.
Shandu gritted his teeth and tried to use his last ounce of energy to perform the Daluo Buddha Hand, but his spiritual energy was nearly exhausted. The moment he attempted to gather his strength, he coughed up blood, and his injuries worsened.
Zhang Dan tilted his head, preparing to enjoy watching Shandu’s eventual despair.
But suddenly, a talisman shot through the air, creating a massive barrier that shielded the couple. Zhang Dan’s spiritual energy couldn’t break through, and his attacks were harmless against the barrier.
Zhang Dan froze. Who was it?
He turned to look, but the figure had already arrived in front of him.
Zhang Dan, a Nascent Soul mid-stage cultivator, reacted swiftly, drawing his sword in a blur of motion. The wind howled as the two clashed, their swords exchanging blows in an intense flurry.
After several exchanges, Zhang Dan found a moment to catch his breath and finally saw the face of the newcomer. The woman had ink-black hair, her beauty striking but her eyes were cold and distant. She held a wooden sword that seemed harmless, yet during their brief confrontation, Zhang Dan found himself on the defensive. His clothes were already torn, and if not for his tough body, he would’ve been severely wounded by now.
Nanli raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. "You’re a bit different from that Liang Jie."
At least she could see this person had some ability.
Zhang Dan, irritated by the comparison to Liang Jie, retorted coldly, "Anyone who takes shortcuts to break through doesn’t deserve to be compared to me! Every step I take is solid and well-founded!"
But as soon as he said that, it hit him: Nanli’s power was terrifying.
How had she advanced from the early Golden Core stage to Nascent Soul in such a short time?
No wonder when Sima Xin had taken them off the island to capture people, he’d kept warning that if they encountered Nanli, they should signal immediately and not face her alone.
Zhang Dan wasn’t someone who liked straightforward confrontations, so without hesitation, he quickly retrieved a signal bamboo tube, intending to alert Sima Xin, but before he could activate it with a spell, Nanli was already upon him.
With her sword flashing, she slashed through the bamboo tube effortlessly, shattering it into pieces.
Zhang Dan’s face twisted as he saw the broken fragments fall. But he wasn’t about to give up just yet. He quickly pulled out a Telestone, hoping to contact Sima Xin, but before he could even recite the spell, Nanli attacked again with her sword.
Her strikes were swift and filled with spiritual power, cutting through the air with deadly precision.
Zhang Dan couldn’t afford to be distracted. He had to focus entirely on defense. Every moment he spent, he realized, could be his last. The fight was taking its toll on him; though he was strong, Nanli’s swordsmanship was clearly superior.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t overcome her.
He was losing.
It was evident that Nanli was incredibly skilled, and Zhang Dan found himself unable to find any openings in her defense. His earlier confidence started to waver.
Luckily for him, his cultivation level was high enough to keep him alive. Otherwise, he would’ve already been slain by her wooden sword.
But his Telestone had been destroyed.
Helpless, Zhang Dan kept fighting back, trying to survive as the two battled from the house to the woods, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Two Nascent Soul cultivators engaged in combat was bound to create commotion.
Zhang Dan was panting heavily now, forcing himself to press on. He knew Jiang Chongliang and the others were nearby; the noise they were making couldn’t have gone unnoticed.
But why hadn’t they shown up yet?
Despite still having some spiritual energy left, Zhang Dan was out of breath. His body was sluggish, and his movements were growing slower. Nanli, on the other hand, seemed to grow more excited with every strike. Her eyes sparkled with energy, and her cheeks were flushed.
Seeing his exhaustion, Nanli couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed. "You’re getting old? Your stamina and spiritual power are lacking."
Zhang Dan’s face turned pale with anger, and he glared at her coldly.
"Don’t talk to me like that, little girl!" he snapped.
His chest was burning with rage. He wanted to rip Nanli apart, to prove that he wasn’t useless!
"Little girl, do you think you can humiliate me?!" he roared.
Taking advantage of Nanli’s momentary distraction, Zhang Dan suddenly launched his attack.
He performed the second form of the Starry Sword Spell.
The sword broke into thousands of shards, each imbued with powerful spiritual energy, and they rushed toward Nanli from all directions, like a storm of blades.
The wind howled as the blades cut through the air, too fast and too fierce to avoid.
Nanli’s dress fluttered in the wind, and her hair flew up. She raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "Very well, you do have some strength after all."
