Chapter 416: Blood as a Protective Charm
Chapter 416: Blood as a Protective Charm
Lord Xue’s anger flared further at her words. He continued to direct the guards to capture Shuang’er, vowing to cut out her sharp tongue.
But the guards, intimidated by the two burning men, were too frightened to approach and instead retreated step by step.
Shuang’er, having endured oppression and escape for a long time, was elated to see them so cowardly. She took out four more talismans and declared, "Today, all of you will die!"
Without needing Chu Huan to speak, the two bodyguards used their lightness skills to quickly move forward, aiming to snatch the talismans from Shuang’er’s hands. They thought that since Shuang’er was merely a fragile woman, they could easily subdue her and prevent her from using the talismans.
However, Shuang’er reacted faster. She pulled out talismans from her waist pouch, releasing a billowing black mist.
The bodyguards, skilled in martial arts but not in Daoist practices, found themselves quickly deprived of air as the mist wrapped around their necks, lifting them into the air. Their weapons clattered to the ground with loud clangs.
Seeing this, Lord Xue was so frightened that he nearly lost his senses and instinctively backed away.
Chu Huan, however, rushed forward without hesitation, trying to save the two bodyguards. Lacking the ability to dispel ghosts, he found that his efforts only accelerated their demise.
But he quickly remembered what Sixth Sister had said and, without further ado, picked up the bloody sword from the ground, drawing a line of blood across his palm.
The blood was certainly sufficient!
He flung the blood into the air, hitting the black mist. The mist, wary of his blood, quickly retreated.
The two bodyguards fell to the ground, coughing incessantly. Despite their formidable martial skills, they were powerless against such malevolent forces.
Chu Huan squatted down and asked urgently, "Are you both alright?"
One of the bodyguards, now recovering, rasped, "Third Young Master’s blood has protective properties against evil."
Chu Huan explained, "The talismans drawn by Sixth Sister are infused into my blood and veins, hence the temporary effect."
This effect lasted only for a brief period. Once the blood left the body, the power of the talismans would gradually diminish.
The bodyguards were grateful to the Ninth Princess and then turned their focus back to Shuang’er. "Please, Third Young Master, give us a little more blood, and we’ll handle her immediately!"
Shuang’er hadn’t expected Chu Huan to appear at the Xue residence, causing a momentary panic. But she soon composed herself, casting the four talismans and reciting the spell Xue Shengnan had taught her: "Mystic Realm of Heaven and Earth, seal all directions!"
With the incantation, the four talismans swiftly flew to the four cardinal directions. To ordinary eyes, it would seem as if the Xue residence had been enclosed by a barrier.
Once the barrier was set, it had the effect of blocking out sunlight. The malevolent spirits, initially fearful of the sun, revealed their true forms as the light was obstructed.
They appeared as terrifying ghosts, some with tongues extending over a foot long, laughing eerily. Others, missing limbs, stared with bloodshot eyes at the living beings in the courtyard.
The guards and servants screamed in terror, either fainting or fleeing in all directions.
Shuang’er addressed the ghosts, "The barrier will last half an hour. With over a hundred people in the Xue family, you may feast to your heart’s content."
She then pointed at Chu Huan and the two bodyguards, "Do not touch them. He has a Protection Talisman that will attract a powerful celestial master."
The ghosts had already seen this for themselves.
One of the bodyguards immediately grabbed the bloody sword and charged at the ghosts.
The ghosts, wary of the blood on the sword, quickly avoided it.
Shuang’er saw the glinting sword and swallowed hard, rushing towards the gate.
She carried a talisman that allowed her to pass through the barrier freely, but the bodyguards could not.
Despite the gate being open, an unseen force pushed the bodyguards back when they tried to pursue. They fell to the ground, glaring at Shuang’er, "What sort of sorcery is this?"
Feeling secure, Shuang’er placed her hands on her hips and spoke loudly, "My dear brother, our master and I have no grudge with you. If you follow Third Young Master Chu today, you’ll be safe. Don’t meddle in our affairs or you’ll lose your lives!"
"Wait!" a bodyguard called out to her, "Even if your master’s life in the Xue family has been hard, not everyone here has wronged you. Is it really necessary to kill all the Xue family’s hundred members?"
Shuang’er wavered momentarily, feeling a bit of doubt and hesitation.
She clenched her fists and said, "When others wronged us, they stood by and watched, either mocking us openly or behind our backs!"
She wasn’t sure about the quality of her own life. Sold to the Xue family as a maid, her first full meal was given to her by the young lady, who was herself not well-fed.
When the young lady ordered her to kill Xue family members, Shuang’er had felt resentment and hesitation, but she later realized it was a test of loyalty and capability.
Her young lady’s name was destined to become famous, and to follow her, she could not be weak.
Chu Huan had arrived at the gate, his hand still bleeding.
He said, "Miss, by committing these murders, there is no turning back."
Shuang’er bit her lip and replied, "The Xue family deserves to die. I am merely carrying out justice. If there is retribution, I accept it."
She flicked her sleeve, instructing the ghosts, "Go!"
The ghosts let out chilling, eerie laughs and dispersed.
The slaughter was about to begin.
Shuang’er did not linger and turned to leave. Chu Huan, realizing he couldn’t escape, felt anxious.
He glanced at his wounded hand, thinking that Sixth Sister must be occupied in the residence, which was why she hadn’t appeared immediately.
Though the Xue family was despicable, if they had committed crimes, it should be the law that punishes them, not the malevolent spirits taking their lives.
The bodyguards, seeing Chu Huan heading back to the living room, advised, "Third Young Master, we can leave this matter."
At critical times, one must prioritize their own safety.
Chu Huan, resolute, replied, "I may not be able to help otherwise, but if I can, I cannot stand by and watch!"
He did not want to live with guilt or be haunted by nightmares.
The two bodyguards sighed, accustomed to the Chu family’s passionate nature. Such spirited young people were needed to support the Mu Nation and keep its court thriving.
If everyone feared and hesitated in the face of danger, the Mu Nation would eventually fall.
Chu Huan, not wishing to say more, took up his sword and entered the living room. Lord Xue had already vanished, while Lady Xue and Xue Yan’er were entangled by a ghost, which was trying to tear apart their souls!
Chu Huan quickly made a new wound and, without instructions, the two bodyguards dipped their fingers in blood and smeared it on the foreheads of the mother and daughter.
The protective effect of the blood was evident!
The ghost shrieked and, though not harmed, recoiled and dared not approach further.
However, Chu Huan turned and saw Xue Zhaoxiang still unconscious on the couch.
