Chapter 22: SysDi 22: Higher than Expected
Evan’s eyes shot open with a start, his head immediately pounding in pain.
His vision was still blurry and his entire body felt uncomfortable. He slowly blinked his eyes, trying to clear them. His arms wobbled as they tried to support his hands in making him sit up from lying on the ground.
’Evan! You’re awake!’ Iva’s tone was worried. ’You’ve been asleep for three hours! Are you okay?!’
Evan groans at the loud echoing voice in his head. "Ugh... A little quieter, Iva, please? My head hurts."
Iva sighs. ’Okay fine, is this better?’ It asked, voice a lot more quieter this time.
"Better."
Evan knew he couldn’t rub his eyes to clear out his blurry sight, because he already used his hands on the ground and they are dirty now. So, he instead relied on his own eyes and kept blinking them until his vision clears.
The first thing he noticed was that he is still in a corridor. The stone walls was reminiscent of the one where he had first reached the bottom of the stairs, except there wasn’t any moss on the walls.
Memories of what had happened before he passed out finally came back to him. The rumbling, the taunting, the running, the Shadowling cornering him before everything went dark...
He looked at the only way out from the corridor, seeing nothing there. "Iva, what happened? Did the Shadowling leave?"
There was a pause, a brief silence before Iva scoffs. ’Nope! The Shadowling didn’t leave you alone. I told you they are Watch Users’ Slayers remember? But you made sure it’s not never ever leaving.’
Evan’s eyebrows furrowed. "What is that supposed to mean?"
’The Shadowling got sucked into a black ball of something from your palm. I think you used one of your abilities for it.’
Evan could faintly remember he did that. It was almost instinctual when he did. And he was planning on using it any other time until he was backed into the corner. His Void ability.
Iva didn’t seem to be paying attention to his train of though as it continues to speak. ’But you haven’t used it before since that’s the first time I saw it and you miscalculated so you ended up with the force pushing you back and hitting your head.’
That explains the headache that Evan is nursing.
Evan puts his hand up and used the wall to support himself. "Three hours huh? I have to hurry back home. I hope mom and dad haven’t noticed I’ve been gone."
’You were injured and still worried about what your parents think. Great.’
There was something weird about Iva’s tone. But Evan ignores it.
"Doesn’t matter. We have to go back. I’ve had enough experiment today. We’ll try again when I feel better."
It’s not like Iva could do anything as Evan began walking slowly out the various corridors he had ran through, and retracing his steps back to the slime corridor and up the stairs once again.
-/-/-/-/-
A few hours later...
Evan woke up on the bed, the headache had dulled a lot that he feels like he can function better now. He had ignored Iva’s instruction to maybe check if he had been bleeding from the head, or have someone patch him up.
There’s just now way he would do that. His dad used to say that any pain will be dulled if he slept it off.
And it did.
Evan stretched his limbs and nodded his head. There’s nothing in his body that felt off or weird at all. He is just very well rested.
Not to mention that he is clean too. He used some clean water to clean himself to make sure that his parents wouldn’t think anything happened to him, when just a few hours earlier, he would’ve died.
Evan stood up from the bed and went out. His eyebrows furrowed when he saw that there was breakfast on the table but his parents were nowhere to be found.
He looked at the clock, surprise in his face when he realized it was already close to midday.
’I told you to get yourself check up.’ Iva says, sounding as if it had been pouting. ’Don’t blame me if you collapse.’
Evan rolled his eyes at the tone. "Whatever Iva. Look, can we just ignore that? You’re usually hidden whenever something bad is about to happen to me and now you’re worried? What’s with this whole change?"
Iva scoffs, but didn’t reply.
Evan didn’t bother pressing either.
He ate his food and began his usual routine. Although it was a lot later in the day than his usual, he found out that he was able to finish the tasks much faster. He even finished on the same time that he would when he started on his usual time. It was very surprising.
Sure, he had reached level 5 after the slimes, but why is his stick wielding abilities a little more smoother than when he first started?
He even broke three out of five because of how strong his strength was.
Evan sat inside his room and hums. He knew that there are a lot more corridors on the stone hill cave that he hasn’t explored. He could go and explore now and have Iva remind him every thirty minutes again. He’s level is high enough already so it should be fine.
Wait, he should probably check what he currently have, so he’s aware of what he’s working with right? He also needed to read what his ability Void does, since he didn’t see it in action and only used it when he felt like there was no way out.
"Status." Evan says aloud, summoning the panel.

Wait... Evan stared at his new status screen. He remembered being level 5 after the slimes. When did he become level 10?!
