Chapter 20: SysDi 20: Back to the Caves

"Simulation Zone." Evan says, before he got around the corner of where he remembered the slimes to be in.

Since he used one out of two of his chances for the Simulation Zone before he was seen, the slimes were frozen in time, some bouncing from the ground or airborne through the corridor as Evan walked to reveal what they were doing. They are a little further away than he realized, which meant that the slimes move really quickly. But even if Evan didn’t see them yet, he knows they were there. His intention didn’t change, so using the Simulation Zone like he did is perfect enough for some side plans.

He has some things he wanted to try before he could actually kill the slimes in front of him without the lack of the passage of time at the moment. Mostly try and see if his detect ability would work against these slimes. There’s no time like the other to try.

"Iva, do you want me to summon you?" Evan asked, pausing. "I don’t think anyone’s going to care much if we’re in the Simulation Zone, right?"

"That’s true. This visual you have is protected within your head anyway." Iva replies. "Why did you use one though? Haven’t you found out the weakness of this particular slime already? Why bother?"

"Because I need to see if I can be more efficient than the first try." Evan says, with a little sigh. "Besides, I need to try to do something. I’ll summon you. You’re free to do whatever within reason while I do my thing." He shrugs. "Summon Pet, Iva."

A small, faint, blue light appears from the ground as a slime appears before Evan. At first glance, it looks the same as the ones in front of him. However, looking closer at Iva the slime, it is shaded a little lighter or paler in comparison to the real thing. Not only that, there is a small star like scar below the slime’s right eye.

"You’re a little bigger than them." Evan says, pointing at the closest original slime.

The slimes around them were a little smaller than Iva. It’s not too obvious until they moved a little closer. But he had been able to get closer to them before, so he was able to tell immediately.

Evan saw how Iva turned and bounced towards the slime he pointed. Iva tries to bounce towards the slime, attempting to hit it, but it bore no fruit. It seems like two slimes are bouncy enough to negate damage between them? Maybe that is also what Iva is trying to find out.

"I don’t know what you want to do, but I’m going to try and see if I can get one down myself." Iva says, its tone weird coming from its current form.

Evan waves his hand. "Sure. Have fun." He approached a different slime, turning around so he can ignore Iva trying its best to end a fellow slime and failing again and again. Ignoring the sounds of struggle and frustration, Evan stared at the airborne slime in front of him. "Detect."

Evan raised an eyebrow after seeing a lot of unavailable slots. Does that mean his level is not high enough to find out what those mean? Or he just has no way of finding out how to unlock them, if it’s unlockable?

He placed a hand on top of the panel, something that he does whenever he has one summoned from the ability. His hand didn’t pass through, making him surprised. He points and presses on one of the unavailable ones, just like he would a computer.

Evan hums at that. So he can press some words to see what they mean. He’s just not sure if he can do this for every panel he needed descriptions for.

"Hey Iva, how do I know which panels I can touch?" Evan asked.

"If you use the Detect ability, most panels can be touched." Iva replies, sounding out of breath. "Otherwise, some of them can be touched while in Simulation Zone. When you’re not in it, they all have to be voice activated."

Evan turns around just in time to see Iva bounced up so high in the ceiling that it made a squeak sound when it hit the floor again.

"Owie!" Iva says with a small sigh. "Not fun."

Evan sighs. He ignores Iva and began to use his Detect ability again and again to all slimes. If training can raise his status number, it would be fair to assume that his Detect ability has a level up feature that would he could raise by continued use. It’s not like he use any mana for it, after all.

After a few more uses, Evan saw a panel pops up.

With that panel, Evan grins to turn towards the other slimes, calling his ability once again. "Detect."

This time, there are new information he had unlocked.

"Iva, can you try and do something for me?" Evan asked, his eyes not leaving his panel for a moment.

"What is it?"

"I want you to say Zoom and then try to hit that slime. I want to see if it’ll work."

"I don’t know what that does but sure." Iva bounced towards one of the slimes. When it is less than 10 feet away, Iva stayed in its place. "Zoom."

Almost in an instant, Iva moved quicker than the eyes could follow and Iva hits the slime. The slime bursts as it is killed.

"Nice." Evan nods approvingly. "This means that whenever you’re in that form, you can do what those slime’s abilities too."

He stretched his limbs. "It’s time to finish this and start what we’re really here for."
