Chapter 157 Her Hunting Range
Chapter 157: Chapter 157 Her Hunting Range
Chu Xi didn’t try to steady the bamboo pole. As it started to slip, Sang Ning quickly grabbed the middle part, lifted it up with force, and adjusted it on Chu Xi’s shoulder, moving it up a few inches.
Taking advantage of Chu Xi’s inability to resist, Sang Ning seized her hand and pressed it against the bamboo pole. Then, she brought her face closer, flashing a radiant smile: "Xixi, is this better now?"
"Ugh..." The weight on her shoulder left Chu Xi gasping for air. Her vocal cords tightened, and the only sound she could muster was a slow, pained groan.
While tying up the straw, Sang Ning had considered Chu Xi’s tolerance. The bamboo pole loaded with straw was heavy, yes, but still within Chu Xi’s limits. Sang Ning wanted her to work—not torture her.
After a few seconds, Chu Xi finally adjusted to the weight on her shoulder, though her breaths remained uneven.
She glared at Sang Ning furiously, stammering, "Your mom... Your mom... Your mom..."
For a long time, she couldn’t string together a complete "Your mom’s!"
[I can already feel Chu Xi’s burning desire to curse someone out.]
[The "mom-content" in her sentence is off the charts. Truly, we’re listening to cries of "mom" in every direction!]
"Don’t rush. Your mom... Your mom... Your mom... Your mom is right here with you." Sang Ning mimicked Chu Xi’s stammering tone and gestured with her chin at Li Sulan, who stood nearby with her mouth agape.
Sang Ning then grabbed Chu Xi’s other hand, helping her adjust her posture for carrying the straw bundle. Urging gently, she added, "You can go now. Make sure not to let it fall. If it falls even once, I’ll put it back on you every single time. I’m very patient, you know!"
"Your mom..." Chu Xi resorted to her most primal and crude insult towards Sang Ning once again.
But Sang Ning raised a finger to Chu Xi’s lips, stopping her before the curse fully escaped.
She then scanned the field and, spotting who she sought, shouted, "Shen Yi!"
Upon hearing his name, Shen Yi turned his head in confusion. Sang Ning waved at him enthusiastically.
Though puzzled, Shen Yi set down the straw bundle in his hands and headed over.
Once he stood before Sang Ning, he asked softly, "What is it?"
"Could you do me a favor and motivate your fan? Just give her a little cheer, maybe say a few encouraging words?"
Shen Yi: "..." Um, no. Can I refuse?
Noting Shen Yi’s subtle change in expression, Chu Xi quickly stepped in to intervene: "Don’t assume everyone enjoys showing off for an audience like you do."
Her gaze shifted to Shen Yi as she declared resolutely, "Shen Yi, please trust me. This is our responsibility to complete, and I’ll make sure to carry it out sincerely—whether or not you offer encouragement."
Chu Xi felt defeated. If the earlier suggestion of the four-person straw-carrying idea hadn’t failed, there’s no way she’d be suffering this humiliation at Sang Ning’s hands.
[Is Chu Xi regretting her futile attempts now? If she’d known she’d end up lugging straw herself, it would’ve been much better to handle it on her own rather than being subjected to Sang Ning’s forceful approach.]
[Chu Xi had the right idea, but it just didn’t work in practice. The paths between the fields are narrow, only wide enough for one person to pass. The attempt to haul straw bundles as a group of four was doomed from the start.]
Li Sulan found Sang Ning increasingly bold in her demands. She was becoming quite adept at bossing others around.
Moments ago, before Li Sulan could even react, Sang Ning had already pressed the straw-loaded bamboo pole onto Chu Xi.
"You’re not going to assign me something too, are you? I’m not young anymore; I can’t do physical labor like this," Li Sulan asked uneasily.
When it came to brute strength, she wasn’t a match for Sang Ning. If Sang Ning insisted she carry the load, she’d have no choice but to obey.
"Being older means you can carry less. Simple as that," Sang Ning shot back, effortlessly dismantling her excuse.
None of the guests escaped Sang Ning’s assignments.
If they didn’t know how to tie straw bundles—leave it to her!
If they complained the load was too heavy—well, tough luck. Just grin and bear it!
Watching a group of people carrying straw out of the fields one after another, Director Sun grinned so widely his gums were showing.
Standing behind a camera with a loudspeaker in hand, he shouted to Sang Ning, "Mr. Sang! You’re amazing! On our show, you’re practically playing the roles of both the class president and the discipline officer!"
But Sang Ning didn’t immediately respond, remaining bent over as she continued tying straw bundles.
Soon enough, Director Sun noticed something strange.
The other guests had each taken a bamboo pole, leaving no extras. So where had Sang Ning found this additional bamboo pole she kept tying straw to? And why was she still working on it?
Director Sun could only ask himself these questions internally, but even after several seconds of thought, he couldn’t unravel the mystery.
After Sang Ning tied several more bundles to her bamboo pole, Director Sun eventually spoke up: "Mr. Sang, the other guests have already gone ahead with their straw loads. You should probably follow them, shouldn’t you?"
Finally, Sang Ning rose and turned to face him, beckoning him closer with her finger. "Director Sun, come here for a moment. I need a favor from you."
Her smile was warm, her gaze sincere—so much so that refusing her request felt impossible.
A faint sense of unease flickered in Director Sun’s heart. He couldn’t shake the feeling Sang Ning was about to trap him, but her earnest demeanor proved too disarming. Clutching his loudspeaker, he stepped closer.
As soon as he approached, Sang Ning reached out and snatched the loudspeaker from his hand. "Director Sun, I’ll hold onto this for now," she said.
Director Sun blinked in confusion. "Mr. Sang, what are you doing?"
Sang Ning placed a hand on his shoulder and flashed a mischievous grin. "Director Sun, crouch down a bit."
Though puzzled, he complied—but his eyes never left Sang Ning.
The moment he saw her lift the bamboo pole, straw bundles tied to both ends, realization hit him like a freight train.
But by then, it was too late. Before he could rise, Sang Ning had placed the pole loaded with straw bundles squarely onto his shoulders.
The weight was sudden and unwelcome, and Director Sun froze under the burden, thoroughly stupefied.
Sang Ning waved cheerfully at him. "Hurry up! If you leave now, you can still catch up with the group. If not, you’ll have to tackle the mountain path all on your own."
Director Sun’s eyes widened in disbelief. He swallowed hard, left speechless and utterly defeated.
[Director Sun’s inner monologue right now: ’This is insane. Am I the first director in history to be bossed around by the show’s guest?!’]
[Director Sun: ’Being a director has never felt more humiliating. Anybody wants this job? Take it! Just take it!’]
But Director Sun wasn’t the only one to fall victim to Sang Ning’s schemes. Even his assistant couldn’t escape her predatory gaze.
The moment Sang Ning fixed her eyes on him, the assistant ducked his head, pretending to fix his hair as though he hadn’t noticed her.
Yet Sang Ning didn’t call out to him right away. Growing impatient, he peeked up—only to realize she was already walking in his direction.
The assistant’s eyes widened in horror. Screaming, "Help!" he bolted in the opposite direction, running as fast as he could.
But he was like a helpless little rabbit caught in Sang Ning’s hunting grounds. No amount of running could save him; in the end, his fate was sealed as Sang Ning swooped in like a fierce tiger, capturing her prey.
