Chapter 54: The Island Exam [8]
Chapter 54: The Island Exam [8]
It had not been that long since the Island Exam began when the situation of being an ordinary assessment flipped into something that would echo throughout the Continent of Divinica.
Every movement of the demonkind, more so if it was so blatant and against the innocent students of the nation whose main belief revolved around the Church of Luminosity—the ultimate nemesis of evil—would spark irreversible and intense reactions.
Not that the demonkind cared about such a thing.
"Where’s Delkira?"
Somewhere deep in the Abyss Lands, where the danger level could be perceived as maximum, a man’s voice echoed within a dimly lit luxurious room in a majestic castle—the Demon King Castle.
In the round table surrounded by thirteen high-back chairs with each one harboring different ominous symbol, two presence were seen empty—one for the demonkind named Delkira, and the other, located at the far end of the mottled phantasmic table, was meant for the soon-to-be Demon King as per the will of the Demon God.
It also signaled the nearing Hero Ascension Trial of the Seven Hero Bloodlines that safeguarded humanity for thousands of years through countless blood and tears.
"Didn’t you know? Delkira’s on the Ranaya Island. It seems she truly misses the human world that she couldn’t wait but to at least watch over the pious high-priest, Radakith." This time around, it was a voice, something that sounded non-human.
Their figures were obscured by the dark mist, though with the mysterious symbols signifying their existence overlapping with them, one could pinpoint who was speaking.
In the end, everyone in this room was of the same root... and of the same home.
"Aha! It’s been what, three years, since we’ve gathered like this? It’s not surprising you two are out of touch. Delkira’s on Ranaya Island because she’s hunting the one responsible for eradicating her little creations..." A playful voice of a girl interjected, garnering the two’s attention immediately followed by a frown.
Just as their demeanor showed that they didn’t like the presence of this mischievous girl, a dark crimson portal appeared within the room, revealing the figure of a woman with crimson eyes and waist-length cascading obsidians.
Delkira, looking around, let out a deep sigh before opening her mouth to address everyone,
"It seems I’m a bit late."
Her demeanor suggested that she possessed authority among every other presence in this room.
After all...
"We greet the Queen of the Dead, the next Apostle of the almighty Demon God.~"
The Apostle of the Demon God was different from every anointed Demon King. One could say that the former was the sole advisor and guide of the latter, and perhaps arguably possessed more influence and anti-divinity power among all of the demonkind.
In addition, aside from the coinciding, seemingly eternal scenario of the appearance of the Demon King and True Hero through the Ascension Trial, the Apostle was selected for unknown reasons.
Just as those who deeply believed in the Goddess of Light couldn’t question the will of the Goddess, the demonkind also couldn’t and wouldn’t dare to question the underlying circumstances behind the appointment of an apostle.
Hearing the greeting, Delkira, donning a dark, crimson-striped robe, spoke chillingly, "Shall we begin the preparations for the arrival of the next Demon King?"

To the present, as the entire Ranaya Island trembled as if an earthquake had just occurred, Maya’s unrestrained power swallowed the entire labyrinth.
However, considering that the world of the [Hero’s Apocalypse] was balanced in itself in terms of power possessed by heroes and villains alike, Radakith, the high-priest of the Demon God Church, raised his hand before chanting a spell.
"For the shroud of corruption shall protect me... as the darkness consumes itself in the name of evil."
It was at that moment that the massive ball of dark energy crashing down upon them was gradually being enveloped by another layer of darkness... Not just mere darkness as illusory mouths with enormous shark-like teeth chewed on Maya’s magic, crushing it into oblivion.
Seeing this, Maya gritted her teeth; her fatal weakness was getting in her way—multi-casting. Even after possessing infinite mana, she had yet to overcome or discover her own unique way to be able to simultaneously cast spells.
"Tch!" Letting go of Gravity Ball, or a more refined version known as Gravity Sphere, Maya remained hovering in the air with ease.
There was no proper introduction between them, only the desire to offset or eradicate one another. That being said, Maya cast another spell as her mind throttled,
’Tier-6, Gravity Magic, Reversal!’
It was a highly effective spatial disruption spell, which caused the gravitational pull in the affected area to become positive (+), causing everything to float at such a horrifying speed.
It was as though the Demon God Worshippers, including Radakith, suddenly fell upside down, crushing their bodies onto the sturdy ceiling of the labyrinth.
"Argh–!"
"Keuak—!"
"Ughh!"
Crack!
Splat!
Their bones shattered, and some of the fragile worshippers among the ranks had their skulls crushed, causing their jelly-like brains to explode, tainting the ancient ruins crimson.
The high priest Radakith, whose perception was being continually shaken, couldn’t think rationally.
After all, just as Maya activated [Reversal], she also cancelled it a moment later—such a seemingly filthy way to right repeated for an indefinite number of times.
It’s the cycle of falling downward and upward with no end, which was a nightmare for anyone relying on ritualistic magic, the specialty of demonkind.
"Y-You! Y-You motherfucker!" Radakith screamed, his voice echoing with the wind produced by the manipulation of gravity as the objects surrounding them continued to hover and crash.
"Shut your mouth, priest of bugs. No, it’s not surprising you can curse. How dare you disrupt my playing time? If not for all of you, I would have a good time playing hide and seek with other students. Fucking pests. Die, all of you!"
Maya’s rage was warranted.
With her words, she promptly canceled the persisting [Reversal] spell and immediately cast the finishing blow.
[Talent: Swallowing Void (Material Form)]
Unlike the same [Talent] Maya used when she first faced the True Hero Candidate, Alana Sol Astraea, when she attempted to silence Bishop Jacob for the sake of not spreading the the Imperial Princess’ mysterious condition, this one, instead of swallowing or sucking immaterial elements such as magic, mana, and even divinity, had the power to physically devour anything tangible... such as human bodies.
In three directions apart from Maya’s back, gigantic mouths of void that had uneven, inhuman, sharp teeth manifested... and before Radakith and some of the helpless Demon God Worshippers could land on the ground, these three mouths from nothingness wiggled as if excited and chomped forward.
Chomp, chomp!
The demonkind’s crimson, somewhat tainted with black, blood flowed to the ground. Their remains... Their thoughts... and their expressions, everything before their existence was swallowed whole didn’t get to see the light.
However, Maya didn’t know if it was her mere hallucination from overexerting herself, but when Radakith was falling to the pits of hell, she saw his lips arched.
"A madman, indeed."
Maya thought it was the final act of acceptance.
That was until the ground trembled violently.
"What now?!" Maya grimaced, only for her eyes to see a magic circle from earlier on the ground brighten.
Realizing something, she cursed,
"Those bastards! Did their lives act as sacrifices?!"
The blood and soul of the Demon God Worshippers turned out to be the ultimate fuel for the slumbering entity on Ranaya Island.
From the beginning, this was an inevitable scenario and was meant to happen, one way or the other.
"What’s happening?"
Maya, quickly descending to the ground, heard the familiar voice of the girl she had contacted earlier.
It was Alana, who had just arrived after dealing with Caelen, with the dancing golden twin-headed scythe beside her.
Letting out a deep breath, Maya fixated her gaze on the glowing magic circle, emanating a dark-red hue, and said,
"We’re fucked."
*
In the depths of the Britanoia Empire, or what remained of it.
I guessed it was inevitable, but it’s still within the controlled variable.
Caelen’s death at the hands of Alana, his own blood relative, was to be expected. Even the appearance of the soon-to-be Apostle of Demon God, a hellish thorn that would make the battle in the shadows between good and evil far more challenging in the future.
However, I’m certain that my presence had already caught Delkira’s attention. Well, it’s not surprising, knowing that Iris Ents were her little creations, complicatedly so.
But due to my killing spree for the sake of my [Exclusive Plundering] mission, the number of Iris Ents dwindled. Even if it’s not a significant number of groups, it’s still worth Delkira’s attention.
’But she won’t find me, not until I deliberately show myself. Not that I’m foolish enough to face, knowing it’ll spell my death.’
"Lugh, they’re awake."
A familiar voice called my name as I walked through the empty hallway of the past—the Little Twelve Bedrooms.
"Okay. Go first. I’ll be there." I replied without turning around.
Hearing the retreating footsteps, I stopped in my tracks.
My mind was filled with both wanted and unwanted memories about my previous life, more of what I was in my days in the orphanage.
"Watch over me... Saki."
I muttered a familiar name before leaving the premises to go into the grand hall of this dilapidated castle.
In front of the shattered throne, as a few of my companions, including Princess Yuridika, were waiting for me, my gaze landed.
There, dozens of people were all tied up, confused, and fearing for their fate.
With a cheerful smile and a clap, I garnered their attention as my figure emerged from the dimly lit door.
"Woah, woah! Look at you guys. How I miss you all, my beloved classmates!"
Yes, I kidnapped the entire Class Mu off the island.
