Surprise Marriage to a Billionaire
Chapter 314: Come Back To Me

Chapter 314: Come Back To Me

One day after the harrowing incident, Rain stirred awake in her hospital bed. The faint beeping of monitors and the soft murmur of voices filled the air. Her eyelids fluttered open, revealing Aunt Melanie leaning over her, tears of relief streaming down her face.

"She’s awake! Call the doctors now!" Melanie cried her voice a mix of joy and urgency.

Rain blinked, her throat dry, and managed to croak out the first thought that came to her mind. "Alexander... Where’s Alexander?"

Her body felt heavy, and a gnawing worry gripped her heart. She attempted to shift, but a sharp pain radiated through her body, stopping her. "I... need to see him," she murmured weakly.

"Soon," Melanie promised, brushing Rain’s hair back tenderly. "Let the doctors check you first."

Rain searched her aunt’s face, but Melanie’s evasive tone only heightened her anxiety. Something wasn’t right. Her body stiffened as dread crept in.

"Aunt, I’m feeling better," she insisted, attempting to sit up despite the discomfort. Just then, Sanya entered the room, her eyes red from crying, followed by a medical team.

"Thank God you’re finally awake," Sanya said, her voice breaking as tears fell.

Rain closed her eyes briefly, then fixed Sanya with a firm gaze. "Where is Alexander? I want to see him right now!" Her voice, though weak, carried unmistakable urgency.

Sanya wiped her tears and took a steadying breath. "Alright, but please behave and let the doctors check you first. Alexander wouldn’t want you moving around without making sure you’re okay." Her tone was scolding, but her concern was evident.

Rain reluctantly complied, though the gnawing pain in her shoulder and stomach reminded her of the severity of her injuries. She felt bandages wrapped tightly around her midsection, and each breath brought a dull ache.

"You’ve been unconscious for a day," Sanya explained as the doctors examined Rain. "You were shot twice, once in the shoulder and once in the stomach."

The doctor nodded as they completed their checks. "She’s stable and can move around but should avoid overexerting herself. Using a wheelchair would be best for now," he advised.

Rain didn’t wait for further instructions. "Then get me the wheelchair," she said, her voice filled with determination. "Take me to Alexander."

Sanya quietly wheeled Rain to the ICU, where Alexander was being treated. The heavy atmosphere in the sterile hallway mirrored the weight in Rain’s chest.

As they approached, Rain’s breath caught at the sight of Alexander through the transparent glass window. Her heart shattered. Tubes and wires covered his body, connecting him to machines that beeped rhythmically, their sound haunting in the quiet space.

Tears spilled from her eyes, sliding down her cheeks as she bit her lower lip to suppress a sob.

"Like you, he went through emergency surgeries," Sanya said gently, her voice trembling with emotion. "He received four gunshot wounds. Three weren’t critical, but..." She hesitated, swallowing hard. "The fourth hit his head."

Rain’s hands gripped the sides of the wheelchair tightly, her knuckles whitening. She couldn’t look away from him, her heart pounding with helplessness and fear.

"For now, he’s still under observation," Sanya continued softly. "The doctors said the operation was a success, and his vitals are stable... but they can’t say when he’ll wake up. Or if he’ll wake up."

Rain’s shoulders shook as silent sobs overtook her. She reached out toward the glass, her fingers barely brushing the cold surface, as if she could reach him through sheer will alone.

"Alexander..." Rain whispered brokenly, her voice shaking. Her heart felt like it was breaking all over again. Alexander had endured this nightmare because of her because he had protected her, taking the hits meant for her.

Sanya, sensing Rain’s anguish, gently placed a hand on her shoulder. "Michael is dead," she said softly. "He died after being shot by the police. William and Attorney Eric Crawford are handling everything now. The case is on trial, and Father Rock said he and William would make sure everyone involved will be held accountable."

Rain’s breath caught in her throat as she listened, but Sanya wasn’t finished. "Also... Dina."

At the mention of Dina’s name, Rain’s fists clenched in anger, her body tense with a mix of shock and fury. She hadn’t expected this. "Dina?" she asked, her voice low and filled with cold fury.

Sanya nodded, her expression somber. "She’s alive. And she was involved in everything, more than we realized. She worked with Michael and helped him with his plans. She had plastic surgery and copied your face." She paused, giving Rain a moment to absorb the weight of the revelation.

Rain’s heart twisted with a mix of betrayal and disbelief, but Sanya continued, detailing how Alexander had discovered the truth about Dina and her deception. "She’s in custody now, but she’ll be transferred to prison soon."

Rain’s expression hardened. She had to see her. "I want to see her before she’s transferred," she demanded, her voice firm despite the exhaustion and pain she still felt.

Sanya nodded, her face etched with concern. "I’ll tell William to make the arrangements..."

Her gaze drifted back to Alexander, and her voice softened, tinged with sadness. "Look at you. You really know me well..." Her emotions broke through as she started sobbing again, her shoulders shaking with each tear.

"Please wake up and come back to me soon, Alexander. I will be waiting..." she muttered weakly, her voice trembling with emotion. She reached out toward the glass as if her touch could bridge the distance between them.

"When can I go inside and be with him?" she asked, turning to Sanya with pleading eyes. "I want to stay with him. Maybe hearing my voice will help him come back to us," she added, her heart brimming with fragile hope.

Sanya placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, her own eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Rain, I’ll talk to the doctors. But you need to rest and regain your strength too. Alexander wouldn’t want you to push yourself too hard," she said gently.

Rain shook her head, determination shining through her exhaustion. "I don’t care about that. I just need to be by his side. I won’t give up on him. I’ll never let him slip away and leave me."
